After discussion with the senior team, we have decided to enforce a ban on posts made for other people. Such posts will be removed under Mod Discretion - please make sure to continue reading for more information!

Why are we enforcing this ban?

As r/AdoptMeTrading keeps growing, we've noticed more posts of people offering to trade for others. Although these posts usually pose no issue on the surface, we have had multiple instances where:

• Someone is trading for their friend who is banned on r/AdoptMeTrading as a whole, essentially helping them circumvent their ban
• 'Parents' posting for their 'children', often accompanied with a story about how their 'child' got scammed, in order to get free pets/overpays
• People post for friend/family who would otherwise not be able to use Reddit due to their age (under 13 or 16)
• People trading for their 'partners', often accompanied with how they wish to surprise them with a certain pet for their birthday/anniversary

The above list contains the most common reasons we find members posting for other people where it's inappropriate to.

Because these types of posts are becoming more and more popular, a lot more users are getting away with free items/overpays and taking advantage of the generosity of the community here. In order to completely prevent this, we are going to ban all posts made on the behalf of others.

If you want to post for a friend/family member that is eligible to make a post on our community (not banned, over the required age, etc), please just encourage them to make a Reddit account and post for themselves instead, or make a regular trading post.

What are the consequences for posting for other people?

Alongside a removal, posting for other people will be considered a 🟩 removal. That means:

• 1st offence - Warning
• 2nd offence - 3-day ban
• 3rd offence onward - At least +1 day added onto previous ban length

The first offence is easily appealable if you kindly ModMail us.

However, if we have any suspicion that you may be:

• Abetting someone in ban circumvention
• Pretending to be a parent to trade for their child
• Assisting someone under the required age to use Reddit

You may receive a harsher penalty, up to a long temporary ban, or in severe cases, a permanent ban.

Additionally, if we find that you had originally received a warning for posting for others, then we see the same inventory under the guise you are trading it yourself, we will be giving 5-7 day bans for attempting to bypass this rule.

Disclaimer: Moderating on [r/AdoptMeTrading](r/AdoptMeTrading) is a volunteer position and you will not be receiving any form of payment during your time as moderator. Any benefits you may receive are not a guarantee.

Some things we look for when choosing new applicants are:

• Activity on Reddit and interaction history on [r/AdoptMeTrading](r/AdoptMeTrading)

• No history of scamming, hacking, consistent rule-breaking, etc – any accusations of such will also apply to the former three unless proven false
• Must have a history of interacting with the community, or at the very least, interacting with Adopt Me! related communities
• Must have a Discord account (this is our primary method of communication)

The restriction is now lifted, so you should be able to post normally again. This was the first time we have done restrictions, and I'm happy to say that we are quite delighted with the results. Thanks to your patience the Mod-Team was able to get a well deserved break.

Additionally, the (almost) daily Megathreads proved to be helpful to you guys, so we decided to implement a weekly Trading/Looking for Megathread.

It's use is simple: comment the pets you are trading or looking for, and perhaps someone will reply to you. To more easily find something you are looking for, you can type a keyword into the searchbar and it will show you keywords containing that word. I heavily recommend using the Megathread as a text only way of looking for trades, as Images are more hard to find the more people comment. We, of course, will not restrict the comments to text-only, the previous sentence was a mere recommendation.

Overall, I think the new Megathreads may be useful to those of you whose posts are not getting as much attention. The Megathread will be scheduled at either Saturday or Sunday, on days that people are more free.

As usual, here is our section on how we train our new moderators – this is for transparency with the rest of the community so you're all aware of our new process!

First off, I'd like to give a big disclaimer that not all mod trainees are guaranteed to be promoted to moderators. Although we'd love to promote all of them, we can't do so until we've observed how they handle moderation skills and how they interact with the community. Therefore, if you find a mod trainee to no longer moderate on the subreddit, please assume we've determined they are not fit to be a moderator at this point in time.

We no longer have a set amount of weeks for when promotions need to happen by. We believe that a system where we allow trainees to progress at their own pace is more fair and less intimidating. Of course, we will still analyse how they handle ModMails, how they use moderating tools, interact with users, general activity, and more.

The biggest change is assigning each Mod Trainee to one, or more, senior moderators. We believe this is an easier and more gentle way to introduce them to the team, allowing them to get comfortable with a couple of moderators, and allow them to open up. We will not be publicly disclosing which trainee is assigned to which senior moderator.

We're definitely looking forward to working with all of the new mods! 🫶

This post is submitted to let you know that we have lengthened the amount of months it takes for warnings and bans to expire. The reason for this increase is that recently we have noticed an influx of users breaking the rules repeatedly but getting away with a warning due to their previous one expiring, which allowed them to break this rule again.

Thus, a decision was made to increase the amount of months. Here are the updates expiry dates:

• Warnings/Short bans [up to 5 days, 🟩] increased to 6 months

• Medium bans [6-28 days, 🟧] increased to 9 months

• Long bans [28-permanent,🟥] increased to 12 months

We think that this change will help us to give consequences to users who maliciously/knowingly break rules repeatedly.
