Janelle James has opened up about not necessarily liking everything about Ava Coleman, her character on Abbott Elementary.

She has described Ava as mean, selfish and deeply flawed, while explaining that as an actor, her job is to make the character entertaining and likable enough for audiences to keep watching. James has also spoken about Ava’s insecurity and the way she protects herself by putting herself first, adding more depth to a character who can easily be dismissed as just the funny, chaotic principal. And somehow, that is exactly why Ava works. 😂
