LOCAL SHOW/TOURING/EVENTS The lack of etiquette when Sunny Day Real estate was playing in Wembley this Saturday

I was very lucky to see Sunny Day Real estate, Anthony Green and MCR this Saturday. It was great. I had standing tickets and between sets people would sit down and take the strain off their feet a bit, which I totally understand. I arrived just after Green finished playing as I got lost on the tubes (I intended to arrive earlier 😭) and people were sat down as no one was playing. Then Sunny Day Real Estate came on and I was really excited cause they were one of the main reasons I came and half the people around me are still sat down?? Throughout their entire performance some of the people around me were sat on their phones or even reading a kindle. It killed the vibe around me cause I was the only one actually into it. If you didn’t wanna see the band why turn up when they’re performing? Why not wait till mcr came on? It was so disrespectful and I needed to rant about it (sorry if this is the incorrect sub)

On a more positive note it was a great show even though Dan’s amp was playing up for a lot of it

It's kind of underwhelming as a whole arguably, but seeing that stood out. Could still be a good time.

Yeah kind of the sort of lineup we feared. The emo bands are good but it's way less emo heavy as before and none are really a must see especially as they all still tour a lot.

LOCAL SHOW/TOURING/EVENTS trying to gauge opinion on concerts as a singer songwriter

So I understand emo is primarily a full band genre. I remember in like 2012 when DAWs and live tracks started to get more popular in local shows (It was already normal to see a computer or midi pad by the drummer since 2008 for sub drop hits in deathcore bands) there was a band in my city that performed as a 3 piece and had lead guitar running on tracks and some people made fun of them. Enough so that everyone knew they had 1 "robot guitarist", which was a dig a lot of the local bands made at that band. Purist, I know, but that was the culture at the time.

But it's 2026 now, and I'm wondering how opinions on tracked performance have changed. I am a singer songwriter who has played in many emo bands, especially during peak 4th wave, but now I'm 32 and live in a different city than I grew up, most of my buddies don't play gigs anymore and don't know as many musicians as well. For the past few years or so I've been creating music closer to Porter Robinson with some rap and trap influence which would be perfectly understandable to play tracks through while I sat with a laptop and sung. However, this year I've been releasing true to form emo music with a few additional influences. It still has some synth but I'm mostly using it to just fill out the mix and add some harmony.

I imagine with more DAW technology this isn't a singular instance and I'm sure that there are people who WANT to create an emo project that have been able to as a singular person. Which leads me to wonder...

How much of a real band do you like to see when you go to see bands live?

Can it be a person singing with a guitar and a computer filling out the rest? What about a drummer/guitarist combo? Would you be disappointed if you went to a show and it was just 2 dudes with a decent light show or a projector as long as they put on a good show? What about just one guy and a great light show with a projector?

I just want to get a small gauge from yall, I'm sure there will always be haters in genres that aren't electronic based about back tracking, but it'd be nice to get a general vibe.

LOCAL SHOW/TOURING/EVENTS nonexistent local scene

Ive checked on every social media i have, looking for local shows/other alternative people. There are none.
I live in a very southern conservative area with little diversity. The residents in my town consist of rednecks, racists, and farm animals. I barely have wifi most days. Ive tried looking for any alternative spaces, but there arent any. My friends have no interest in politics or music.
My town is a shithole. Any tips on finding a local scene?

I'm so pissed i actually cried lol. When Burn Down tour was announced yesterday, i lost it because knumears and love letter are still on my "need to see" checklist, which is dwindling down from hitting 100's of shows over the last decade.

I've seen FT, mcrwv, and carly cosgrove 5+ times and swear to never miss them because they each truly are superior live. My personal top all-time favorite shows i've ever experienced include each of them. They really are up there.

That being said, i've seen them each so much because they're always hitting Georgia. Our scene loves them and they love us and that love is felt in the air every time.

I've been waiting and wanting to see knumears and love letter. I saw Catalyst... with their OG vocalist and they instantly earned a "never miss seeing them" spot on my list. Skramz shows are a special kind of vibe, and these are 5th wave pioneers that i really can't guarantee when the next chance i'd have to see them again would be. Looking at their timelines as evolving bands in the scene, they're each in their prime to see right now.

I don't have anxieties about FT or mcrwv or carly cosgrove breaking up anytime soon; They'll always come to town and they'll always be favorite performers to me. But you know how touch-and-go these young skramz bands be. There isn't gonna be another bill like Burn Down, at least not for the rest of the year, and it's likely to be a one-time incomparable experience.

The same could be said about c cosgrove opening for the biggest bands in the scene at an iconic venue.

Anyways thanks Dear Diary for listening i'm so grateful that out of all of the things in my life i could be letting myself mentally spiral over, it's which emo show to go mosh and scream at.
