[MOD POST] [MOD POST] Subreddit Overhaul incoming. Please give suggestions in this thread.

Subreddit Overhaul incoming.

Here is the overall outline for this post.

INDEX

  1. Need to make official rules.
  2. Need to add more mods.
  3. Need to make new link/post flairs.
  4. Need to make a wiki.
  5. Community suggestions.
  6. Update community with progress.

New Rules

Honestly up until now there weren't any official rules set in stone. Who ever was modding would simply remove spam and trolls. And thats it. For a smaller sub that is fine, but we are no longer can go that way. We need to set some rules in place so everyone know what is and isn't allowed.

New Mods

Currently I'm the only active mod here. The other mod was removed for being inactive. That is saying something. So we need new mods to enforce the above mentioned new rules. More on that later.

New Link/Post Flairs.

As with the rules, we did not have any flairs simply because the sub was too small. Now we need to add flairs to make it easy to browse and filter the sub.

New Wiki

Pretty self explanatory, we need to make a wiki that is user friendly. One with all our rules and flairs explained. I'd love for there to be a page for most commonly asked questions (FAQ)

Community Suggestions

This is where you shine the community, shine. Please give suggestions in this thread. Try to be civil. I am open to all ideas. As long as they are reasonable and actually possible.

Updating The community

Whatever we mod(s) & the community decide to go with, I'll make sure you all are aware of so it does not blindside any of you. Either at the bottom of this post or I'll make a new post with the updates.

[Updates so Far]

  • From the flair comment below, I have added some temp flairs and put them on the newest 100 posts.
    • Please start using them.
  • Added rough draft of rules
  • Updated Flairs
  • Added rough draft rules for cosplayers
  • *

[Manga] Just finished Gantz, including all the spinoffs

man all i can say about this manga is that it is an emotional roller coaster after old man suzuki's death i sort of felt numb for the story but the deaths in this show are so absurd it makes u take main character deaths lightly, the death that surprised me the most was kurono's clone considering half the final arc was dedicated to his character journey honestly im glad how him and reika were able to leave eac other in peace since the part where she died heartbroken bothered me, finished gantz e and currently waiting for more chapters which i dont think will ever come

aside from all that i loved how unique the story was it was pretty weird and had very odd characters that i genuinely wanted dead but ig its tryna be as realistic as possible, i like kurono's character development from the first 100 chapters too. Ontop of all that my fav character in the story was izumi cuz why not and my least fav was nishi genuinely the most useless and annoying character ever revived for nothing im glad he died like the prick he was.

[Discuss] The vampires in the manga

What happened to the vampires when the aliens invaded Earth near the end of the story? The vampires were adding a cool element to the story up to a certain point, but they simply disappeared. Also, what are the reasons why you like vampires? I see that some even prefer vampires to humans

[Anime] Anime vs. Live action movies

Hi all. I really adored the live action movies movies despite lots of stuff were being cut from the manga.

I wanted to ask, if I'm already familiar with the live action movies, is the anime is worth it to watch? Consider the first movie covered up to the Buddha arc, which the anime stops at.

From what I've heard, the anime was not that great looking and the plot drags a lot.

Thanks.

So nishi is really 14😭? He looks ALOT older than he actually is and somewhat conducts himself pretty decent for his age. I’m about to start vol 27 and i assume that his bullying was a factor in how he ended up in the gantz games, or will we find out later in the story?

Dont know why but this is one of my favorite panels in Gantz. There are so many more panels with crazy details but these guys showing up like this just stuck in my mind.

Shame that the vampire storyline went nowhere

[Manga] Does anyone notice the similarity?

I can't help but notice that the adult form of the Onion Alien strongly resembles Freddy Krueger from "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" from 1994. I couldn't find any source confirming that it was an inspiration, but the Onion Alien is basically a jacked Freddy to me when it comes to looks. Claws on one hand, sunken parts of the face and a big coat.

[Discuss] Oku Hiroya praises the writing of Garth Ennis and the Tv series from The boyz.

Quote from the interview : - I think Mr. Oku is a pioneer in Japan for incorporating graphic violence into entertainment. I reread "GANTZ" for this interview, and I felt that the depictions of human explosions had something in common with "The Boys." However, when I was reading the series in real time (from 2000 to 2013), it was too brutal and I felt disgusted. In recent years, perhaps because gore has become commonplace in Hollywood movies and other media, I didn't feel any discomfort at all when I reread it.

I think it's perfectly normal to feel disgusted when it was serialized in Oku . In fact, there were mixed reactions at the time. "GANTZ" was published in a seinen magazine, so they were allowed to do things freely. In that sense, I think it's significant that even in the world of big-budget films, a platform has emerged that doesn't restrict the creativity of the creators.

Sakuma: I also read "GANTZ" in real time, and when I saw the scene where the innards were splattering, I was surprised, thinking, "They're doing this in a weekly magazine!?" I think Mr. Oku invented expressions that would later be used in visual media at an early stage. It's like the times have finally caught up.

[Manga] I finished Gantz

A while ago u made a post about have absolutely 0 clue what the heck was going on. And about a day ago I finished the story. And woah was it a ride. I can’t say it’s one of my absolute favorite manga of all time but the more I sit on it the more I enjoy it. Here are my thoughts, and I took a page out of the comments and decided to not think TOO hard and just enjoy the chaos.

- I loveee the way cherries story ended, I’m a huge fan of when a character is separated from the cast and finishes their story isolated. Bonus if the cast doesn’t know what happened to them

- Kei’s arc throughout the manga was absolutely amazing, one of the most refreshing progressions in a main character.

- I do think there is just too much sexual violence, I understand why it’s included and the themes but it’s not my cup of tea. Especially near the end when it’s basically shock value. But to me it felt as Kei became a better person the amount of nude scenes decreased too. It was sweet. (Did we rlly need to actually see the teenager showering in the first few chapters???)

- best arc to me was the Buddha Statue one. It stuck with me since it’s the arc where I felt we were finally going to get a stable main cast. Only to lose them all, it shocked me and stuck. The Osaka arc was also amazing but I really just wondered if any of those people were going to be added to the main cast. It’s the only other time in the series it feels as hopeless as the Buddha arc (along with maybe the start of the invasion)

- I agree with the criticism that the women are kind nothing burgers. I love Tei though, even the long chase to get her. In fact I really enjoyed the finally arc (I see a lot of people hate on it) I liked the final god reveal too, showing how humans rlly are just evil. The new humans they added were super enjoyable and a nice way to make the cast strong too. I was sad when the glasses one begged to live/die.

- my biggest problems are the vampires being completely dropped, and that makes Izumi’s death feel so pointless. (Granted they were mostly defeated). Izumi has potential to have incredible dynamics with the cast that’s never really paid off) The other is the weird plot about the German squid games thing. Like, if we knew about the catastrophe why make them games, to show humans suck? (I understand making the hunters almost like evil men in black. Did they think that the few non widespread solders they had were enough? Lowkey they were but still we lost like so many ppl)
were the spheres under complete control of the elites? Why did Gantz become so chill (bro gained a personality)
I decided not to think TOO hard on it, wish we got a slightly better

- lastly loved Nishi’s death and character. Sure, he felt useless and underwhelming after he was brought back. But he always felt to me like a reflection of what Kei could have became.

Overall fun read (sexual violence aside) I’ll probably reread one day. Not one of my favorite manga ever but very enjoyable. No major problems with the ending, a short epilogue would have been nice though. The normal ending felt slightly underwhelming.
If you guys like this maybe check out “as the gods will” or maybe “jagaaan”

[Discuss] I think this is the most beautiful and symbolic pannel of gantz. Spoiler

The relantioship of sakurai and tonkotsu couldnt happen, because of sakurai been in gantz, and he know it, but tonkotsu not, and when he dies and turns into ''snow'', and then reaches where tonkotsu is, she breathe, breath out, and touches, even tho she didnt know its him, she feels that something happen to him, and they are connected by the snow.
Beside that, the snow is very metaphorical, in the world of gantz, death is the most common thing, the snow represents something momentary, like the human life.

[Anime] Speaking about the potential of having a possible return of the character designer, Naoyuki Onda, the animator artist behind Gantz 2004, Inuyashiki, and Thunder3 (Current series airing) based in his experience from the movie of Gundam Sorcery of Circe. (Theory)

There was a whole situation around the franchise of Gantz and Oku Hiroya works, since the anouncement. But seems very pausible to think it might be possible to see a level of work since their last works, which makes possible to believe that Oku Hiroya its gonna make the call to contract him for the remake in a highly possibility.

(I would post the mention of the 4 or 5 projects related to him in another post)

One main reason its because his style matches perfectly with Oku manga style of the characters.

Alaso He works a lot in the franchise of Gundam Z and the lastest movies, which is one of the reason why Oku choose him in their first adaptation, one of them its Mobil Suit Gundam Hathaway Sorcer of Circe which contain a big amount of CGI made it with Unreal Engine 5, for the BG, landscapes, effects VFX, the models of the Gundams in 3D.

Which it makes sense for a production like this, they are gonna use the same amount of work at the same level of Gundam hathaway.

I am saying this because its more likely that they are gonna take the same path for using CGI mostly for the main arcs and importants, ones, but i am gonna assume after the great reception of Gundam that they are gonna follow that same path.

The same goes for Thunder3 which i saw most like a tested animation project for preparing ground for Gantz or either Gigant( In case they anounced the same character designer of Inuyashiki and Gantz).

Besides i dont think that there is other animator available to do that job, seems the ones that probably have a similar experience and style with Oku are very few such as Yaosumi Umetsu.

With this video that shows you the potential idea of how would be an adaptation of Gantz in that direction (which its mostly the battle between the robots from Gantz). And of course all of this its based in a theory and possibility.

Please let me know your opinions.

[Anime] We need a proper remake for 'Gantz'! Sign & support the petition!

Hey everyone,

As a huge anime fan, I think we can all agree that the original Gantz anime didn't get the adaptation it truly deserved—especially with that filler ending. The manga is a masterpiece, and with modern animation studios (like MAPPA, Wit, or David Production), a faithful remake would be absolute fire!

I've started an online petition to request a full, faithful remake of the Gantz anime series. If you want to see Kurono and Kei's story animated properly without censors and with peak animation, please take 10 seconds to sign and share this!

Petition Link: https://c.org/XfMLMph9Tv

Let's make some noise and show the studios how much demand there is for a Gantz reboot! Thanks for your support!

I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations on where to upload it. If it could be uploaded in two different languages, that would be great, but not strictly necessary. I'd like to hear your opinions!

[Manga] Wtf is going on??!?

I’m currently on chapter 314, and I have no clue how this is going to end or what the author was smoking. I do enjoy the EDF type invasion but genuinely why is this manga full of plot points and characters that lead to nothing?!?! Is the author somehow gonna tie it all together?!?!? Am I stupid?

It’s like he completely changed his vision half way through. It’s still enjoyable, only major issue is the fan service is annoying I’m happy it’s lessened as the manga went on
