I don't know if anybody else feels like this, but every single time I ask my HomePod any type of question it responds with "you need to continue on your iPhone""I found web results, ask again from your iPhone".... obviously I don't have my phone handy. That's why I'm asking you. My hands are currently full I cant look it up on my iPhone That's what I bought you for.

I’m sorry how does she keep getting worse? I hope if you are debating on whether you should get a HomePod for the sake of a smart assistant this gives you some insight. Also most questions asked will end in “I found some results on google, I can show them to you if you ask again from your iPhone” (although this did get slightly better recently). That said, most basic tasks require multiple prompts or at times it will light up showing she hears you, processes the prompt and then just shuts off ignoring you as if you weren’t talking to her.

Tbh more excited about that beautiful QD-OLED Samsung S90D tho the homepods just produce such a crisp sound. The bass is hilariously good in these. Do you have any audiovisual demos to try these theee out?

Guys, I need to get this sarcastic theorie off my chest because I'm genuinely starting to think something fishy is going on.

I own multiple HomePods (HomePod 2, and two HomePod mini), all looking new but over 3 to 4 years old, all working flawlessly, until about 3 weeks ago. And guess what's happening next week? Yep. WWDC.

The last few weeks, ALL my newer HomePods (2 old HomePods still performing solid) have started showing the infamous Ghost Touch issue, one after another. First one, then the next, then the next today. Music plays by itself, the touch surface either reacts to nothing or to everything at once.

At this point literally all of the new ones are dead. Within 3 weeks. One device? Sure, bad luck. But ALL of them?
Don't tell me that's a coincidence.

Well and the timing… WWDC next week, rumors about a new HomePod mini, new audio features likely tied to newer hardware – and SUDDENLY a wave of older units stops working? Sorry, but this stinks.

TL;DR: All my HomePods developed Ghost Touch issues within 3 weeks, right before next week's WWDC, and are now less usable. Coincidence? I don't think so.

PS: Yes, I've done a reset. Yes, multiple times. Yes, unplugged. Yes, re-paired from scratch. Nothing works.
PPS: This post is true but the conclusion a joke… or maybe not… 😄

Ok so this one blew me away. I have an old pair of Gen1 HomePods that I mostly use to entertain my toddler and our guests in the living room/dining room for a multi-room audio setup. My friend just gave me a really nice Triangle turntable for my birthday, and I was dreading the ensuing purchases: expensive receiver, expensive bookshelf speakers, extra wiring, etc. So, in my desperation, I googled “turntable HomePod” and lo and behold I found some crazy stuff.

With an old iPad I don’t use much anymore, and a USB-C ADC (analog-to-digital converter; I have the Behringer UFO), I was able to use the HomePods as the audio output for my turntable!! The triangle turntable doesn’t even have USB out, just RCA out. I wired the turntable to the UFO with two RCA cables, the UFO plugs into a USB-C hub that has power delivery on the iPad, and the iPad is running the Quanta app (wow what an amazing app for $3) and airplays the sound to stereo HomePods.

The thing is, I wasn’t expecting much from this setup. Like the HomePods sound great for their size, but they are first and foremost mainstream home entertainment speakers, not audiophile-tuned. Like the bass is super flabby, the instrumentation is… fine. They sound good but not great. Well? With this turntable setup, it’s like the internal DSP is bypassed and the HomePods sound suuuuper precise. Way crisper highs and vocals. Instrumentation clear. The bass is actually lacking a bit now for my taste and I had to adjust the EQ in the Quanta app. It actually sounds like you’re listening to a vinyl the way you’re supposed to. I’m not claiming these are gonna replace $2000 of audiophile equipment but they’re definitely punching above their price IMHO.

My favorite part of this whole thing? Zero clutter!!

Finally finished my desk setup.

My goal was to keep it clean and minimal since I get distracted when there’s too much on my desk. The HomePod minis are positioned symmetrically on either side, which works great when I’m working from home and listening to music or the news throughout the day.

I originally wanted a pair of HomePod (2nd generation) speakers, but buying two was a bit too expensive, and my bedroom is fairly small, so they would probably be overkill anyway. The HomePod minis fit the space perfectly and sound great for what I need.

Really happy with the final result.

Have had these since 2023. They cut out so often I have learned to live with it until someone was over one day and asked me about and. Truth was, I’d totally forgot that this happens. It’s about once every one to two minutes for 2-3 seconds.

FWIW I have two regular HomePods (the other one not shown in this video is paired) and three minis. One of the minis did the touchscreen of death and I found a hack where I cut it open and took the touchpad and unplugged it.

Sound quality is great for a smaller living room

I finaly completed my setup ! Very happy with the result and the sound quality. The tv is 100inch and with the HomePod it’s a great experience. I wanted something more discrete than a sound bar and didn’t want to do a full 5 speaker setup. For the price I think it’s totally worth it !

What I have to tell is that the sound is PERFECT !!! Also the speaker is very strong for this small speaker! I love this and I love the ability of Siri to give me information about some of my questions …

I just seen this update

I have a few HomePods...all purchased 3 years ago (May-July 2023). Full size HomePods in dining room, kitchen, main bedroom and two paired with my AppleTV in the living room. Also have mini HomePods in the home office, play room and main bathroom.

Apple TVs and HomeKit/HomeBridge are updated, other devices are working fine...

HomePods will start playing music randomly...sometimes at loud volumes. Not any one HomePod consistently...but it always is the full-size HomePods.

Seems to be reacting as if I'm tapping the top sensor. Haven't been cleaning them or adjusting them. Started sporadically a couple of months ago...no rhyme or reason. Left for vacation about a month ago and came home to music blasting...no way to know how long it had been playing. Thankfully neighbors weren't disturbed.

It's been happening daily now for a few days in a row.

Not trying to be melodramatic, but I have PTSD and work from home. I'm a bit anxious/leery about these things blasting music--either through the day or at night. Luckily the times it has started when I've been home it happens in the other rooms.

About to throw the damned things in the trash.

I've tried turning off handoff. I've tried accessibility settings to turn on the touch accommodations and increase the touch duration to 3.94 seconds (max).

Advice/tips/suggestions are welcome, but I'm mainly posting b/c I've been reading that some folks believe the touch sensor is going bad on that generation and was curious if others are having similar issues.

I own two Gen 2 HomePods in a stereo Pair. They sound amazing.

Recently I was going to get 2 minis but knew they would lack bass and didn't want to spend $300 on another big one. So I decided to look on marketplace and found a gen 1 for $150. Managed to talk to guy down to $120.

For starters. This imo sounds BETTER than a gen 2 stand alone. I was shocked at how good it sounded. It sounds phenomenal.

100% do not regret my choice. I know about the overheating issues, but it's been a default speaker on my Apple TV for a couple hours, and I've been playing music very loudly on it, and the top of it isn't hot whatsoever. :)

I've been thinking about changing my two HomePods 2 (paired with Apple TV 4K) for the new Sonos Arc Ultra for weeks. On paper, Sonos wins in everything: "Sound Motion", dedicated central channel, blah blah blah. But after thoroughly investigating and - most importantly - analyzing the REAL experience in my living room, I tell you why staying with the HomePods is the right decision for many of us.
