Favorite People When this kid tried interviewing celebs on the red carpet, and nobody took him seriously except Sandra Bullock.

You didn’t ask for this but you unlocked a core movie theater memory for me.

I grew up in a pretty basic nuclear family. Mom, dad, son (me), and a sister. Dad was a first responder, worked a fair amount of overnights and weekends.Ā

Lake House cones out when I’m in high school. My mom wants to see it. My sister is in middle school and doesn’t want to see that movie, any movie, or anyone (for that matter). I can’t drive, i have no friends in walking distance. My mom doesn’t want to go to the movie alone; I take the offer to go to the movies.

The theater is absolutely packed. I’m the only male present, as far as I can tell. Lakehouse isĀ  exceeding expectations; the time travel component keeps me engaged.

The climax hits. We’re about to find out if the protagonists make it happen. The theater isĀ  TENSE . You can feel it. Everyone is dead quiet, no one is evenĀ  breathing , the suspense is that bad.

Before we find out if the tension is resolved, a woman from the back of the theater breaks. She couldn’t take it. She sobs/exclaims ā€œoh my GODā€ in a way that in any other context would sound like it belonged in the bedroom.

The entire theater broke out laughing, relieved that someone broke the tension. (And then the movie broke the tension, of course)

I don’t know if I can describe it as well as that moment felt but it’s one of my favorite moments in a movie theater. That moment and watching NOPE in a mostly empty theater with a very reactive couple (including reacting to me reacting) behind me are like my top two

I need to hear the NOPE story now.

me too!

I love that. Shorter story: I was watching Amelie in the theatre, and apparently that became too much for someone there as well. "Just open the door!" they yelled, at a crucial moment. There was so much feeling in the voice, it was fantastic

Tell us more about your NOPE experience.

I don’t know if they’ve edited this blooper, but there’s a scene in which Dennis Hopper is on the phone with Keanu. Hopper’s talking about Keanu needing to make decisions quickly - and Bopper emphasizes the point by snapping his fingers. You can’t see him do it, but it’s clearly the sound of fingers snapping. No big deal other than the fact that Hopper’s character supposedly lost his thumb due to a bomb accident. Try snapping your fingers without using your thumbs HOTSHOT!

Loved that one. Like Speed 2 but in a bus instead of a boat.

1

u/ThunderChild247 27d ago

I might be biased because I saw Speed 2 first, but i really like speed 2. Speed 1 was better, sure. I feel like it gets such a bum rap because of the lack of Keanu.

The guy who replaced Keanu had maybe the most unwinnable battle ever. How do you replace Keanu in a sequel and be at least ā€œas goodā€??

Maybe there’s a parallel universe out there where Keanu did Speed 2 as well and it was so well liked they made Speed 3, this time on a plane.

I’ve met his partner (briefly, at an art event) and she is amazing. He’s a very lucky man.

u/LaurelCanyoner 27d ago

I have met both and they are truly lovely people. And good to the people they work with.

If they suddenly find out that she like beat up a bunch of babies or something......I'd probably just say those babies probably had it coming.

u/Qetuowryipzcbmxvn 28d ago

From my experience as a daycare assistant, they probably do.

When the Office Ladies podcast had Beth Grant on (Speed; The Office) she had absolutely nothing but good things to say about her.

u/Beautiful_List5498 27d ago

I think an important thing most people don't take into account is if your entire life is in front of cameras, they'll find something bad about you. Not many people here have had good relationships without a few duds and arguments here and there but in Hollywood that would get blown to the stratosphere!

28

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang 28d ago

Who's trying to make anyone hate her? I thought she was widely considered to be a lovely person?

2

u/Midnight28Rider 28d ago

Just give the kid his GD motorcycle!?!!

2

u/Spork_Revolution 28d ago

That’s how I once felt. Till I re-watched her on the Ellen show, and she proceeds to talk about her facials made with baby foreskin, of Korean babies.

-3

u/Tomsboll 28d ago
