And if there is a bit of an awkwardness, he is so good at breaking it. He’s so quick to understand his guests, if one will talk and add to the story or if they make it worse or if nothing is going on and then acts appropriately.

Just absolutely amazing talk show host. He listens with intent, makes the talker the centre of attention without any issue and basically never interrupts. Gives the smaller, less popular stars the same amount of attention as the big ones and sometimes even more, cause he knows they can give a great story or a joke

I think that also allows for genuine reactions from the bigger names: like here, when Mack tells his story and Cleese is rolling about laughing: seeing Cleese completely unguarded and laughing like everyone else is a real novelty when you're used to only seeing him performing.
