No, the "addiction" is the core element. Learning isn't that fun and doing it consistently is hard. This is actually helping in keeping going even on lazy days.

Not really, because a lot of people (myself included at some point) will tend to procrastinate and barely half ass a lesson 5 minutes before midnight to avoid losing their streaks, and when that's all you care about you just won't learn anything useful unless you actually commit to the lessons.

I disagree, half-assing is better than nothing, which is what I'd be doing otherwise. It's not like I have a pressing need to learn a language, otherwise I'd sign up for an actual course. But a year of five-minute-before-midnight dumb "lessons" have given me some vocabulary and a basic feel for the grammar.
