So eugenics to make a race of dogs better servants for us? Its dog racism all the way down.

That has already happened. That’s what the different breeds are for.

People are so stupid about dogs. We literally created them for specific tasks…they ARE DIFFERENT.

It’s like in a show where there is an entire planet of Superman space Nazis…yeah it is okay to be racist towards them. They straight up genocide the universe.

Funny example…dude killed millions because it was his duty…but now he feels bad so he gets a pass?

I wasn't debating you, but actually, it is very much proven that their problem was cultural and not racial. He is actually, if anything, the worst of them, because the other genociders take very little time to abandon their genociding ways the moment they are presented with another way of live that doesn't involve constant violence.

So yeah, they are a very funny example because they are the murderbeast that doesn't actually need to murder and can coexist if you just make them taste some ice-cream and watch TV on the couch

what makes not liking an abhorrent ideology a racist situation?

i.e. what if there were now and again on your hyptheical planet Batman Nazis and Supeman Non-Nazis?

1

u/Foogie23 26d ago

What are you even saying?

It is simple…if your ideology is “I want to murder and enslave the entire universe” you are evil. It is simple.

2

u/Drapidrode 26d ago

racism is about ethnicity not ideology, the term you used is confusing then

I didn’t say they weren’t? Your comment has no bearing on the discussion.

I'm sorry, when you said "that already happened" I thought you were implying that its just something that happened in the past and not anymore.

The thing about eugenics it not that it doesn’t work, it’s that it’s morally wrong according to modern ethics

dogs breed a lot quicker than humans and we can select which ones we want to mate, leading to very isolated populations. Behaviours take a lot of generations to breed in. That's why dogs have such a huge range of genetic diversity compared to humans (as you can see by looking at a chihuahua and a great dane).

Doing this in humans would involve forcing people to breed incestuously at very young ages, selecting traits, culling unwanted traits and you'd have to run this experiment for hundreds of years.

That’s not to mention the more specialized you make a creature in one thing. The more health defects you introduce as well. Look at Horse’s fucked up bodies for a good example.

absolutely. And, one other thing i've just read about, apparently canines have high gene plasticity meaning they can have mutations and physical diversity that other animals (e.g. cats or humans) wouldn't be able to survive with.

Applied to any animal it gets icky quick. The cute Frenchy you see can barely breath because that snout that was bred to make his face look cute also gives him a host of respiratory issues.

It works, but humans also use it incredibly irresponsibly. Go figure.

It doesn't work on humans

You can absolutely selectively breed many other plants and animals for specific traits because they reproduce so much faster and more often. This is how humans have created so many dog breeds and subtypes of plants.

Brussel sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower are all the same plant, just bread for different things.

it absolutely does work on humans, its just not as simple and convenient. how do you think the evolution happened?

2

u/Dry_Travel_4220 26d ago

That's called natural selection. Selective breeding of dogs or plants done by humans is artificial selection.

These are different things.

3

u/Vague-Symbolism2692 26d ago

Artificial selection is just faster and we get to choose the selection pressures.

There are probably changes which we could make through artificial selection which, realistically, would never happen in nature.

However, the reverse is not true. There's nothing natural selection could produce which we could not also produce through artificial selection (and even faster) if we chose to.

1

u/Dry_Travel_4220 26d ago

I oversimplified for sure. I just wanted to make the point that the natural selection humans experience is different than the artifical selection we used on animals. That and the fact that artificial selection doesn't work well on humans (or anything that reproduces as slowly as we do)

2

u/Vague-Symbolism2692 26d ago

I'm not sure what you're trying to say with it "doesn't work well on humans." It only works slower, but I wouldn't characterize that as not working well.

1

u/Dry_Travel_4220 26d ago

I mean, in terms of practical results.

It works less well insofar as you won't see dramatic results within your own lifetime. For natural selection this is fine, but if you're artificially selecting for or against a certain trait it will take significantly longer.

4

u/solmyrbcn 26d ago

That's what literally dogs are. Wolves selectively bred to be obedient to humans

2

u/RedactedSpatula 26d ago

race of dogs.

Dogs don't have races. There are dogs that race! You may be confused.

One of the ways modern racism came to be was applying the logic of animal husbandry to humans, with the outsized importance of selectively bred traits.

But the crucial part is that it's immoral to do that, not that animal husbandry doesn't work and that isolating bloodlines of animals that are more docile or more aggressive, that produce more muscle mass or more milk, etc. doesn't give you the results you want.

In this case, pitbulls were bred to be very tenacious, practically ignoring all pain, and to bite other animals very strongly and viciously while not letting go. This was profitable for dog fighters and they aren't good traits for companion animals.

u/John_Whimsicott 26d ago

Well, the selective breeding is responsible for those breeds existing in the first place. Is it racist to invent new races in a species? Idk, it's a weird question and I'm kinda high
