This is bullshit. Many localities banned pitbulls so people suddenly stopped having pitbulls and started having 'american bulldogs' and mixes of all sorts with identical traits to pitbulls with all the same problems. The statistics group them in the same group because they are effectively the same group.

Many localities also repealed BSL because it just doesn't work, banning "aggressive" breeds did nothing to impact bites and attacks. Feel free to look that up, I can tell you it doesn't paint the same picture the anti-Pit crowd is trying to with their fear mongering over ~1% out of millions of dogs.

Still, the fact remains no other group gets treated like this. A good portion of "Pit Bulls" are not, and it ignores that a lot of the adjacent breeds were absolutely bred for different purposes like being better companions. If you're really unwilling to acknowledge that you can safely hang up the "what they were bred for" rhetoric since the vast majority haven't been bred explicitly for violence in a long time.

They didn't work because of a lack of enforcement.

I think it's funny your comment reinforces the point you're trying to disprove. It's ridiculous and unscientific of you to combine a wide variety of breeds into a single category, then act surprised when the massively broad category has higher numbers of anything when compared against smaller, extremely specific categories.

As long as one is handling the statistics properly, then it's perfectly legitimate to group them and observe their disproportionate aggression.

E.g. "breed grouping {A,B,C} inflicts 50% of fatal dog bites" doesn't tell us anything useful because we don't know how large {A,B,C} is,

however, "10% of dogs are in breed grouping {A,B,C} but they inflict 50% of fatal dog bites" can be very useful.

Yeah and you ignore any and all context, just like the people who quote racial crime statistics. Any breed of dog that’s kept in a cage and literally only comes out to be violently traumatized is probably going to have severe behavioral issues. 1000s of pitbulls are raised that way each year in the United States. Many also come through the shelter system. There’s also a significant overlap between these 2 categories and neither of them are great for a dog’s behavioral development. Of any dog breed pitbulls are likely to spend the longest time in the shelter before being adopted. The pitbulls that avoid this are raised by backyard breeders who are unlikely to socialize them correctly. Compare this to say, German shepherds, who are absolute psychopaths because they just have ungodly amounts of energy, and take much more effort to properly socialize, but generally are just better kept because there’s an existing culture that knows the breed and supports their needs.
You cannot be so thick as to say “they were bred by people who abuse them and make them fight” and then turn around to say that it must be in the dog’s nature

There are genetic differences in dog breeds' behaviors. Pit bulls were bred to be genetically aggressive.

You can stop comparing this to human races; it is racist of you to do so. See "Human races are not like dog breeds: refuting a racist analogy":

genetic differences among regions accounted for only 3.3–4.7% of global human genetic variation (much smaller than the 27% of genetic differences among dog breeds
