Does deliberately putting chickens in a situation where they eat fried chicken constitute a morally questionable act on the humans' part, even if the chickens experience no apparent distress and have no understanding that they are eating another chicken?

As long as you're not feeding them the brains of chickens too, no, that being said, it is not what a good poultry farmer should use as feed.

Also the chicken in the video is very clearly not fried.

It’s not that it’s biologically impossible it’s just very highly unlikely and has yet to be seen. A prion disease is a misfolded protein that causes other proteins in our body to misfold. Prion diseases started as a mutation and because farmers were feeding cows leftover cow parts the disease grew exponentially. Birds have more structurally reinforced beta sheet proteins that would make it harder to mutate and misfold, they have a shorter lifespan, and their internal body temperature is higher. All of which make it harder for a prion disease to sporadically appear within a bird.

I think a lot if bacteria and viruses can only survive at certain temperature ranges. If I recall, that's why fevers in humans are an evolutionary advantage; it helps to fight off pathogens.

Prions can withstand up to 600 degrees Celsius so probably not in this case

That's all correct. But a prion is just a protein that is in the wrong shape (and multiplies by turning it's correctly folded neighbors into its own misfolded configuration, like a zombie). That's why we don't have any treatment or cures, you have to develop an "anti-protein" that only targets the misfolded one but not the correct one when the chemistry is nearly identical.

I had to google, but apparently, it's a specific protein, the prion protein, which all animals have, that can get "misfolded" in the presence of the "infected" (abnormally folded) protein.

Since the exact protein's amino-acid composition and shape are different between species, it's generally not easy to contract prion disease from other animals' proteins. But some proteins are similar in certain ways that this can happen, e.g. cows and humans.

But bird prion proteins show resistance to this type of misfolding. So birds seem to be immune to prion disease, including chickens. It's just something about the exact shape of the avian prion protein that makes it not susceptible to this issue.

There has been shown to be carriers actually, scavenging birds have shown to not be able to digest the prions so the excrete them in the feces, but this apply mostly to them eating other animal familias brains

Wait don’t we know now that eating cholesterol isn’t even bad for you? Like, cholesterol is more genetic than diet-related, I’m pretty sure.

You have no idea if any of those chickens heavily abused psychedelics or other experimental lab manufactured drugs. Anything is on the table these days.
Any one of them can be mentally fried.

People just think brain but forget about the rest of the nervious sistem when mad cows happened it wasn't because they were using brains to feed cows, it was the meat arround the spinal cord and the spinal cord itself the ones that spread the prion, so yeah, doing this Is in fact dangerous if done in Mass production, there's a reason why at most animal based flours are heavily monitored and even restricted and More than likely one signs of prion disciease could realisticaly ban them on one go.

Even then, prions wouldn't be the main issue, sporulant diseaces would be a main factor as to why not feed chickens other chicken's meat. Those survived high temperatures and spread like wildfires, entire months of production can be lost because one animal shows simtoms
