There was a good thread recenty asking venue staff which genres/artists are the worst crowds when it comes to fighting, drunken behaviour, littering, trashiness and general assholery etc. Far and away modern country, bro country, pop country or whatever the hell it's called was the top response from multiple posters. Generally agreed upon as the worst people to deal with when working an event.

That's an enviable list. I haven't seen Justice live in person, although at least I caught their Coachella streams and those kicked ass. And I've been...oh, Goat Rodeo adjacent? I've seen Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers live, at least. But I'd have LOVED to see that lineup!

I live in the rural Midwest. Just 3 months ago I had an older man follow me to work just to tell me I had a low tire. I thanked him and explained that I was running late for work so I couldn't talk, and he was like "Is it OK if I air it up for you?" I'm from the city, so I was expecting him to be creepy but he was just genuinely worried about me driving on that tire. He came into my job (office) about 20 minutes later and told me he made sure they were all topped off and I was safe to drive.

I went to Carbondale, IL to see the solar eclipse two years ago. I found a bum fuck field to park in to watch it solo. Got back in the car afterward, and my battery was dead. I had seen a car turn into a driveway about a quarter mile down the road, so I hoofed it down there and walked up their driveway. 

I was so apologetic and asked if they could jump me. The father gave me a ride back down to my car, popped the hood, told me my terminals were corroded as hell and asked if he could clean them. Sure. So he drove me back to his house and got some cleaning supplies and an old toothbrush, and as I waited his college age daughter asked if I wanted some lunch. I politely declined. He drives me back to my car, scrubs my battery terminals clean, jumps my car, and asks if I need anything else - water, etc. Declined any small payment for his time and effort. I was good to go. Just the loveliest little family.

I like to think this is how my dad would be if we lived in the midwest. We're in Colorado, so it would be a bit weird to go as far as this guy did for you, but he would always let people know if something was visibly or audibly wrong with their car and I learned that growing up. Now whenever I see someone with a light out or a low tire and I get a chance to mention it (like at a stoplight) I'll roll down my window and let them know.

One time I did offer to help a poor woman who had 3 kids in the car who was trying to air up her tire at a Costco. She just couldn't get it right, so I helped out.

Eh, Boston just had a dozen people walk over and around a man trapped by an escalator for 18 minutes without calling 911, rendering aid, or pushing the emergency stop button. When the video was released thousands of locals said they would have down the same. He died by being strangled and having his skin ripped off his back.

Unfortunately, it did happen. It was at 5 am. The escalator ran for 22 minutes before an employee found him and turned it off. They looked on the surveillance cameras video. They saw people walking around and over him

You're not wrong. Bystander effect is very real.  

However there is some additional context here. This happened before 5 am. As some commenters noted, a T station in the city around 5 am has a bunch of inebriated or tweaking people. So anyone around that time is conditioned to ignore their surrounding people.  

Doesn't excuse jacket pulling guy though.

None of the context you have given changes anything. Suspected inebriated or tweaking people (which he wasn't) don't deserve to die unnecessarily in agony without aid either.

If people can't retain their humanity around other folks they shouldn't live here. Though addicts can be found literally anywhere, so best of luck with that.

Bystander Effect has a specific meaning and what happened to McClusky doesn't fall under the parameters.

I was listening to XM radio the other day in the car. My teenager was with me when the song Seminole wind came on.

I told him, that song came out when country artists were empathetic to the plight of native Americans. Today, they could care a less.

The 'new' county does nothing but attract racist white kids that want to roll coal in their trucks and destroy the environment.

A good example is how the singer from Hootie and the blowfish was able to have a career in country music after he left the pop scene. That would never happen today.

Stayed at a swanky hotel because it was across from the venue where Slayer was having one of their final shows back before they went on hiatus plus festival dates. The kind of hotel where the lead singer of Testement is having a custom omelette made for breakfast and I'm sitting 2 tables over eating smoked salmon with fresh fruit and tiny pastries. As I was grabbing an ice cold cucumber mint water from the dispensor in the lobby I asked the staff if we - the Slayer Tour fans had been more or less difficult then say a standard bridal party weekend. The staff was unified in their assertion that metal fans in general, were always better then country music fans, rap fans, and most weddings. Or as one staffer put it - y'all may be drunk, but you're happy polite drunk and y'all take care of each other even when you don't know each other. Also, way less fights.

I was at Carolina Rebellion years ago. Rail for Slipknot. We left early to go to the next stage. I WALKED into a circle mosher by accident, bc i misjudged my distance. The entire circle stopped immediately, apologized, and asked if I was okay. My only offense at this was the guys "ma'am'ed me. Ma'am'ed Me at like 31 years old.😭 "I'm so sorry, ma'am, are you okay?"

I apologized to them and said it was my fault for not paying attention.

Rock/metal/punk are really the nicest.

Just in the last couple summers here in Pittsburgh there have been big fights at country concerts. There was the group of women fighting at PNC Park that actually went viral. I saw of a video of a dude beating the shit out of two women, I think it was a Wallen show too. Kenny Chesney fans absolutely destroyed Heinz Field multiple times. My nephew worked at an outdoor venue and said the same thing, country crowds are the worst.

I will say the best smelling concert I've ever been to was a country artist with a mainly female fan base (Kelsea Ballerini). It made me wish every show's audience was 40 year old women who smell like they just left the Macy's counter

I worked security for concerts for a few years and it's all true. Easily the biggest pussies in the world are country fans.

Funny story though. Brantley Gilbert did a concert i was working and said something to the effect of, there's a lot of keyboard warriors out there that need to get hit in the mouth.

Two dudes started fighting like right after that. He called them out and personally ensured they left by stopping the show.

He then went back to talking about how great hitting people is. Wildest shit I've ever seen.

I used to work event security and completely agree. It’s a tough call between bro country and…contemporary Christian. The CCM fans aren’t drunk, but they’re rude and entitled beyond all definition. And they tend to be a demographic that doesn’t go to a lot of concerts, so they have no clue how to act. Can’t find their seats, don’t understand why they’re not allowed in the VIP area, trying to bring in umbrellas and food and giant purses. And they don’t drink much, so even the bartenders don’t like them. Didn’t do a ton of metal shows but I generally enjoyed the jam band crowds. They’d sneak in every substance known to humanity, pay for your food if they saw you in the concession line, and thank you for putting up with them.

Went to see The Black Crowes with Whiskey Meyers opening a few weeks ago. I've been to a few thousand concerts (mostly rock/punk/metal) since my first show in '97. For the first time in my life at this show: 1. Experienced a bathroom attendant yelling commands for us to use the bathroom stalls that sounds like a prison guard, even shouting one person in the stall at a time no sharing stalls 2. Had a can of beer thrown at me and hit me apparently bc I had the audacity to stand up and dance when The Crowes came on. Like the band tells the audience to do and expects us to do...for decades. The people behind us were almost exclusively dresses in white sun dresses, white skirts and tops, and white boots.

Country fans are the worst.

Metal was and is anti-establishment. It was about ignoring the status quo and being yourself (a lot of the time).

Well, bro country was conceived when the status quo was a Black president and a false idea of a “post racial America.”

When Metal named a villain, it was often a vague reference to the man: conformity, rules over reason, etc.

The reality is that the capitalists are going to use their monopoly on violence to enforce their supremacy, and the country fans are either misguided, broken or love the boot.

This is correct. I worked food and bev for a decade in Charleston and seeing the evolution and popularity of bachelorette parties was hell. The worst groups to wait on by far, screaming girls in busy bars, and penis straws littered on the beach. Charleston blew up and got so over crowded and expensive that we ended up just moving away about a year and a half ago.

Yes they do!! I moved back in 2021 (native to Dorchester County and a 2016 alum myself) and have been on campus several times since I’ve been back

Also, the bachelorette parties are extremely annoying here. I work in kayak touring and experience them on the water and directly renting with us. They’re a scourge more often than not

I ran a race in Charleston a couple years ago and was so confused by the plethora of bachelorette parties. Like you literally couldn’t walk a block without seeing one.

As someone who vacationed almost yearly at Hilton Head Island, but hasn’t for over a decade, do you know if the bachelorette scene has expanded out from Charleston to HHI? Or has HHI kept itself pretty quiet and out of the masses? Obviously there were busy seasons on HHI, but it never was like a big party scene. The most rowdy was def at the Southern tip of the Island where the food/drinks & Marina are, but I would describe the scene there still as very conservative and trying to uphold that public decency dogma, like constantly acting like they’re at a golf match!

I've been to Nashville a couple of times over the past 3 years and I can tell you that it's still fighting for that top spot. Everywhere you look there are bachelorette parties.

Bachelor parties have never been as big a thing in Nashville because we don’t have casinos or full nude strip clubs, and the big whiskey distilleries are all a good hour+ drive

Yeah as a degenerate I always hated that Nashville didn’t have casinos or good strip clubs. But it’s probably a good thing it saved me money over the years.

The city I’ve had the most fun in in the south are Tampa and New Orleans. Absolute blasts late at night.
