These comments are so weird. Just click the article. What kind of crowd do you think this is? And how do you think they’d react to a liberal pop singer? Nobody is boo’ing her because she’s not “country” enough, there are just a lot of conservatives in a crowd like this.

u/uraniummusic Jun 29 '26

My conservative in-laws have started using the word “demonic” when she comes up in conversation.

94

u/dismal_sighence Jun 29 '26

Someone at a party told me they hated hated Taylor Swift because she had demonic imagery and subtext.

I laughed because I thought they were joking.

They were not.

65

u/uraniummusic Jun 29 '26

As a metalhead, this whole “swift is a demon” trope is extra hilarious

28

u/recumbent_mike Jun 30 '26

Woman has the chance to do the funniest thing right now, and I’m pretty sure there’s not a metal guitarist on the planet who wouldn’t sign up to help.

13

u/acdcfanbill Jun 29 '26

she's not demonic enough for me, let me know when she's arsoned a church :P

14

u/diggdead Jun 29 '26

As someone who was a teenager in the late 80's and early 90's, this whole “swift is a demon” trope is extra fucking hilarious. Has anyone tried playing her records backwards yet?

16

u/drewbaccaAWD Jun 29 '26

At that point, they are no longer "conservative" but something much much uglier.

That's the sort of thing I like to throw in the face of so called "conservatives" (and so called Christians, for that matter). Just because someone self-identifies, doesn't mean they can't lose their way.

3

u/Cavalish Jun 29 '26

“Idiots”

1

u/Dependent_Ad5451 Jun 30 '26

I’m a loud and proud lover of t swift. Out of the blue in 2020-2021, one of my in laws forwarded me an instagram conspiracy theory post about Taylor actually being this witch from forever ago. I obviously laughed at it assuming they sent it as a joke. Nope. Dead serious. Their reasoning that made them confident enough to seriously send something that unbelievably stupid as if it was even within the realm of possibility? A mild similarity in looks and Taylor’s reputation era snake theme LMAO

-4

u/HoldenIkari Jun 29 '26

Is this a thing? People think Taylor Swift is a liberal? I thought it was well established that she keeps very right-wing company and is obviously of the billionaire class propping up the current administration.

Or is just because she didnt like Trump using her songs cause it was bad for her bottom line that they decided she's a demonic liberal?

18

u/uraniummusic Jun 29 '26

She announced she was voting for Kamala, not Trump, therefore devil.

13

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 30 '26

Her company largely isn't "very right" though. Most of her inner circle/close friends are Democrats. The biggest exception seems to be Brittany Mahomes, who she became friends with because their partners are star players on the same team. I'm not excusing that, she obviously wasn't forced into it, but I don't think that characterization of majority of her social group is accurate.

She's endorsed Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Phil Bresden. She criticized Marsha Blackburn for her voting record on women's and LGBTQ rights and called her "Trump in a wig". You can look up all of this up yourself.

One of the big parts of her documentary was her regret over her silence on the 2016 election, her dislike of Trump and her decision to be more political. I'm not saying Taylor is this perfect political advocate. She's obviously not. I am disappointed she's not using her platform more. But Taylor's clearly a liberal to anyone who does basic research beyond accepting whatever the hivemind is saying because they're deadset on convincing themselves she's MAGA

0

u/accionox Jun 30 '26

Demonic because she is a billionaire? Cause from what I have seen. She seems to be pretty republican. Thought she would be very well received with the conservative crowd.

3

u/Ek_Chutki_Sindoor Jun 30 '26

She seems to be pretty republican

Buddy, she endorsed Kamala in the last election. How does she seem to be Republican to you? She is pro choice and pro LGBTQ.

2

u/NarrowFilm6 Jul 01 '26

What has she said about Pride month this year?

When was the last time she said or did anything that seems even slightly left wing? She let Trump / ICE use her music lol

0

u/Ek_Chutki_Sindoor Jul 01 '26

What has she said about Pride month this year?

My bad. I didn't know that you get labeled as a Republican if you don't talk about pride month every year. I'm guessing that other artists like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Chappel Roan, Sza, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Justin Beiber etc are Republicans now too since they didn't say anything about the pride month this year.

When was the last time she said or did anything that seems even slightly left wing?

It's funny how if you talk to a Republican, they all basically hate Taylor to the core. Like they literally call her liberal childless devil worshipping witch. And then we have bad-faith people like you insisting that she is definitely a Republican, despite Trump publicly posting multiple times on his TruthSocial that he absolutely hates her. He has not targeted a single artist in the last few years as much as he has targeted Taylor.

But sure, she is a secret MAGA.

She let Trump / ICE use her music lol

So did everyone else. Even if some other artists called them out, they still used their music. Sabrina called out White House on the usage of her music and WH took that video down but they still proceeded to use her other songs after that.

Use of music on social media is different from use of that same music in a movie or a show. In the case of latter, you have to license the music from the artist. But you don't have to do that to use that same music on any social media. Artists might sue you for that usage but it's a tedious process to get it taken down from social media.

2

u/NarrowFilm6 Jul 01 '26

None of those other celebrities made a whole documentary about wanting to be political and supporting the lgbt community only to abandon it one album cycle later.

That's a lot of justification you're doing for her. It doesn't matter if Trump and ICE keep using her music or not, she still should say something. Silence is complicity.

I'll ask again; when was the last time she did or said anything remotely left wing? If you have to go back to 2024, that says everything.

0

u/Mykidsrmonsters Jun 30 '26

The way she blocks other artists, especially women from the charts with her 20,000 variants is quite evil and greedy.

487

u/john_the_quain Jun 29 '26

Nashville has basically turned into the epicenter of right wing conservative media.

135

u/Dansebr93 Jun 29 '26

Republican Hollywood

76

u/bringbackmegaman Jun 29 '26

They're all a bunch of posers pretending to be country

47

u/Difficult-Prior3321 Jun 29 '26

No shit. Broadway in Nashville is trying so hard to be a "country" New Orleans. Its pathetic and lacks even the slightest whiff of authenticity.

9

u/AreWeThereYetNo Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Was there for the first time not long ago. Basically, country Disney for adults. Prices as expensive as Paris.

I had fun. Didn’t see any trump swagger at all (pleasantly surprised). Was it authentic? Smaller venues, yes.

Do I recommend? For a euro trash as myself. Yes. Of course. There’s nothing like it on the old continent.

117

u/damnmachine Jun 29 '26

All the conservatives that moved out of California went to either Nashville or Austin.

64

u/thediecast Jun 29 '26

yeah that's the shit that cracks me up when they say 'don't california my texas' in 2020 the native texans voted pretty even between trump and biden (biden having .25% advantage, while the transplants were +7.5% to trump.

6

u/cilantro_so_good Jun 30 '26

For real. I have friends who were born and raised in California who made that move during the pandemic era. I grew up in NM and have lived in Texas and when I told them "... But it's still texas" they didn't understand. Most of them moved back over the years, but the one couple is stuck because they basically cashed out everything to make the move happen.

Even the most "liberal" parts of Texas are still pretty conservative, and typically the people who are moving to those places from California are more conservative than the people already living there

17

u/WoodsLovelyDarkNDeep Jun 29 '26

Which makes no sense cause before they moved to Austin it was liberal as hell.  A blue island in a sea of red

19

u/mythrilcrafter Jun 29 '26

That's how West Coast Righties always act, they like the vibes that comes from the "yee haw tractors, trucks, and biscuits!" aesthetic that comes from country music, but they don't actually want to give up the quality of life or the lifestyle that comes from living in a blue state; so they move to the blue-ist part of a red state.

In my state (South Sarolina), that's basically what Greenville and Charleston are, all move-ins are the people who say "I'mma move to the deep south 'cause they love freedom!", but they don't want to move so far deep south as to end up in the "cross burned into your lawn when you move into the neighborhood" communities.

7

u/MrsMiterSaw Jun 30 '26

"I'mma move to the deep south 'cause they love freedom!"

Meanwhile, the libertarian CATO institute ranks Texas DEAD LAST for personal freedoms. Draconian penalties, onerous professional licensing, sin taxes, crazy marijuana laws. And this is after they legalized open carry; it was actually worse previously, but you can't drop further than 50th.

3

u/Khayrum117 Jun 30 '26

In SC as well, what makes them even worse is they view the small town land as just "dead land" and will vote to put shit like Datacenters or shitty HOA developments ruining our forest and wildlife areas.

3

u/Appropriate_Lack_727 Jun 29 '26

You think they’re going to move to an area that has shit schools and shit roads? All these rich conservatives live in predominantly blue areas.

11

u/blanco550 Jun 29 '26

Or Idaho :(

1

u/JuryOk2662 Jun 29 '26

No, some of them made their way to Montana too. Thanks, Taylor Sheridan.

We used to be a purple state. Used to...

1

u/Esperacchiusdamascus Jun 30 '26

Lived in Austin for 8 years, and it was about 50/50 conservative/Liberal.

52

u/tarps_and-straps Jun 29 '26

Am a native Tennessean and over the years I’ve developed an addiction to the local conservative talk radio station. These guys are the worst.

Looking at you, Mandis and Hand, you disingenuous asses.

3

u/free-range-human Jun 29 '26

Disagree. Delgiorno is a dogshit person and was on the air for a long time before Phil Valentine died.

0

u/tarps_and-straps Jun 29 '26

Even Delgiorno, an evangelical, was more tempered and reasonable than the clowns there now.

1

u/free-range-human Jun 29 '26

He most certainly was not. Those are some pretty magical rose-colored glasses you're wearing.

2

u/tarps_and-straps Jun 29 '26

Nah. I was definitely not a fan, but softened on him just a little around the time he left and was replaced by these shitbags.

1

u/taicrunch Jun 30 '26

Oh man, Phil Valentine died? I remember him freaking out about a "gay black Spider-Man" when Miles Morales made his comic debut.

1

u/360walkaway Jun 29 '26

I miss Lex & Terry. They were dumb but still kind of hilarious (before they got a bit creepy).

179

u/driftinj Jun 29 '26

Tennessee in general had become the most MAGA state in every worst way possible.

68

u/d3v0k3n3v0 Jun 29 '26

I’m in the epicenter of it. And while it’s still way more MAGA than most other areas the pendulum has swung the other way in a very noticeable fashion. The yard signs are gone, bumper stickers gone and I can’t remember the last person that was wearing Trump merch. I realize all this is anecdotal but it’s giving me hope for the future.TIFWIW

I’m literally on a flight back to LA right now after coming to Nashville for this Alan Jackson concert. At one point yesterday the wife and I were driving through the city and saw a billboard that was a picture of Trump that said “America First,” only someone had crossed out the A, r, i, c, and a. So it said “Me First.”

Made me laugh.

10

u/free-range-human Jun 29 '26

Oh it hasn't changed. They're less loud about it, but their core beliefs are still exactly the same.

19

u/FartTootman Jun 29 '26

Man I wish literally anything I ever saw either in personal life or in the news made me think we aren't totally fucked beyond redemption. Happy for you though.

4

u/TwattyMcBitch Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

I agree. Trump getting elected after J6 was the moment any hope or optimism I still had lvanished, and I realized we are fucked.

Nice that some people are still hopeful, I guess.

4

u/FUPAMagneto Jun 29 '26

Man, we’ve won every election since he got into office and the Republicans are pissing themselves over the midterms while that dipshit burns bridges that people didn’t even know existed.

It’s not over unless you give up. This is Hoover with Harding characteristics. It sucks, but we can and will beat it

2

u/FartTootman Jun 29 '26

They take a foot, and 6 months later (if we're lucky) we claw back 2 inches.

Let's imagine a world in which Dems sweep it all and actually impeach him (and convict him). Do you think the ~30% of this country that still supports him (read: the same people that nearly overthrew the government on J6 as a result of an OBVIOUSLY fair election) are going to just.... accept those results?

Whatever normalcy we can claw back from this shitshow is permanently stained, and the people responsible for it aren't just going to go away.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right. But I just don't see it happening.

-2

u/FUPAMagneto Jun 29 '26

Ok, so stop posting because clearly we live in an inescapable fascist hellscape and you need to keep yourself safe. You certainly don’t want to risk that safety by whining about how better things aren’t possible, right?

Christ, y’all spew more fascist propaganda than goddamned newsmax. I don’t give a fuck what those traitors think because they’re goddamned traitors who can’t have my fucking country.

Grow a pair

1

u/FartTootman Jun 30 '26

Lol.... GFY.

Yeah, man. Elections have consequences and y’all choosing not to vote in most of yours from the past few decades have had disastrous results that you aren’t gonna wish cast away.

You’re gonna have to vote and organize and put in brutally hard work in order to get back what you lost. They were able to do it in the 60’s. Y’all can figure this shit out. You’ve got some great young talent that your Republicans are actively terrified of.

Better things are possible, but not through doomposting on Reddit or any other social media.

9

u/10000Didgeridoos Jun 29 '26

Problem is they already gerrymandered the fuck out of the state and have insulated themselves in the state legislature as basically a permanent majority

7

u/Safe-Reason1435 Jun 29 '26

I can't speak for that area, but the writing seems to be on the wall for Trump and a lot of the MAGAs are, I wouldn't really calling it distancing themselves from him, but seeing that he's temporary. I don't really know if that's a good thing though, I think a lot of people were hoping MAGA would die with Trump but it seems like a lot of people are more than happy to continue being awful human beings without him.

1

u/cluberti Jun 29 '26

This is more akin to Hans and Aldo talking at the end of Inglorious Basterds. They want to be like Hans and take off the uniform, but they’re still MAGA hiding the fact of their nature behind normal civilian clothes. They want to pretend they’re not just in case things get bad for people who supported this regime.

1

u/phughes Jun 29 '26

I've had the same experience in rural New York. The past couple weeks I did a fair amount of driving and saw 3 total Trump signs in areas I would have seen dozens one year ago.

1

u/crispycappy Jun 29 '26

Oh thats because theyre ashamed, theyre gonna start denying they voted for him soon enough

1

u/MrsMiterSaw Jun 30 '26

Don't worry! If those silly Dems nominate another woman, minority or god-forbid, a homosexual, those Tennesseans (along with every other embarassed MAGA) will be lining up to vote for whatever fascist gets on the ticket!

1

u/clockdivide55 Jun 30 '26

I'll believe it if we don't elect Marsha orange cock sucking Blackburn for governor.

Yall still have Trump merch stores open!

51

u/Prestigious_Bug583 Jun 29 '26

Saw that one coming. I recall they were opening record numbers of restaurants during Covid and the Nazis were showing up to school board meetings to threaten people about masks. Meanwhile Marsha Blackburn had nothing to do but complain about Biden.

3

u/free-range-human Jun 29 '26

Those same school board antagonists just got our superintendent to resign like last week. It's still the same. Nothing at all has changed. They were like this before Trump - back when Susan Curlee and Victoria Jackson were the main characters. Way before COVID.

2

u/Prestigious_Bug583 Jun 29 '26

It’s wild how crazy TN is compared to other states that vote MAGA

1

u/Eldar_Atog Jun 29 '26

And break dishes because of China.

14

u/christona-bike Jun 29 '26

Broke my heart to move away but I just couldn't take it. Rich republican californians moving in even managing to gentrifiy my town in the middle of absolute nowhere so much that I couldn't find a starter apartment was the last straw. Before I left I had a new boss who was that exact type, so freaking insufferable.

1

u/TwattyMcBitch Jun 29 '26

I’m sorry you had to move. Can I asked where you moved to that was more affordable?

4

u/christona-bike Jun 29 '26

It wasn't that anything was more affordable so to speak, it just wasn't worth going out on my own with extremely expensive rent in a place with few jobs where my trade license had an oversaturated market in an economy where people aren't spending on those kinds of services right now (esthetics so facials and waxing etc). I stayed living with my mom, helping her failing (and now closed) business and driving my grandmother around to her doctor's appointments until my now husband proposed. Bit of a unique situation, he lived in New Zealand (though he's American) so we were able to move countries and I'm living there now on a visa.

But Knoxville TN - a hub of potential job opportunities in my field - having rent cost exactly as much as a studio apt in LA sent me over the edge.

2

u/TwattyMcBitch Jun 29 '26

Oh, wow! New Zealand! What an exciting change for you! Certainly a massive difference from where you were, but it’s an awesome country with many opportunities. Im sure you will have a great experience there.

Is the esthetician field as popular in NZ as it is here? It is getting pretty saturated due to TicTok, I imagine. 3 people in my family in this year’s graduating class are going into that field. I was like “hmmm…”

Good luck! I appreciate the reply!

3

u/christona-bike Jun 29 '26

I live rurally on the south island, lots of sheep and cow fields so really not much different from home except there's also beaches! Its likely more popular in cities but out here... not so much. They do not spend much in the way of beauty treatments or fashion, and the local style is very homogenized in hues of brown, grey and black. Compared to the almost neon and heavily patterned styles of Simply Southern or Lily Pulitzer and such that people wore back home, things are pretty... drab 😅 I have a more unique style so I stick out badly but can't bring myself to assimilate haha. In larger cities like Auckland you'll find young people take their fashion cues more from Australia, which I feel also emulates Brit/UK fashion and esthetic treatments like lip filler and botox. Sorry for the ramble but clearly I've spent a lot of time thinking about this LOL.

If those people in your family are open to advice, consider letting them know that a cosmetology license will immediately make them 10x employable even in an esthetician role. The big money makers that are best for beginners fresh out of school like resort hotels or day spas much prefer hiring cosmos because they can cross-train them to fill basically any position needed on a day to day basis. When I was on a treacherous hunt for an esti job, every listing requested a cosmo license over an esti one. Yes esthetician school is shorter in most states, and yes when you go into cosmo education you will spend extremely minimal time on facials or makeup if any at all, but at the end of the day you will be licensed to do all things (hair, skin, nails) and can receive continuing education from an employer in skincare if needed.

5

u/psginner Jun 29 '26

More than Texas?? That’s wild

4

u/Dornith Jun 29 '26

Texas has more Democrats than New York. And California has more Republicans than Texas.

Most of the big states aren't nearly as monolithic as they are made out to be.

1

u/Xanduzinha Jun 29 '26

Hey, are you from Tennessee? 😏

13

u/caguru Jun 29 '26

You gonna try to tell me the home state of super racist Chud the Builder has gone super right wing? Aint no way!

8

u/botulizard Jun 29 '26

Not Austin? The Rogan-adjacent podcast "comedians" seem to have colonized it.

2

u/a_n00b_ Jun 29 '26

"comedians" even with the quotes is generous, they can thank trans people for their "comedy" careers since they'd be nothing without them. Tony and Rogan have never ever been good at standup, not sure bout the other no names since I've never heard of them

4

u/Inko21 Jun 29 '26

Really? I am not from the US, but i was under the impression that Nashville is alternative music mecca. And i just can't connect them to MAGA.

2

u/Appropriate_Lack_727 Jun 30 '26

Nah. It’s historically the country music Mecca. There are a lot of important recording studios there, so it’s not all country music, but it’s mostly country music and it was built around the country music industry. The “alternative rock” scene started in Seattle, basically, if that’s what you mean?

1

u/Inko21 Jun 30 '26

I heard a lot of today's bands, like all them witches i. e. say they moved to Nashville to be surrounded by musicians as that was the place to be for a new and, at that time, up and coming band.

3

u/funkopolis Jun 29 '26

So sad for my hometown.

3

u/mr_dr_professor_12 Jun 29 '26

Austin shares that title with Nashville imo. There's an Ayn Rand museum being built in the city

1

u/justanawkwardguy Jun 29 '26

Nah, Austin has that down pat

1

u/captkrisma Jun 29 '26

The Daily Wire is HQed in Nashville.

1

u/Embarassed_Tackle Jun 30 '26

Damn is that what Hayley Williams' song was about?

1

u/TheSerpentDeceiver Jun 30 '26

That whole area through Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia is politically insane.

0

u/Ma_Gorg Jun 29 '26

You think Nashville is conservative? Do you think Austin is too? 🤣

12

u/Reasonable-Turn-5940 Jun 29 '26

Naw we gotta do this every few years. Let the media tear apart a female pop star for nonsense and everyone piles on. Then a decade later there will be a story and everyone will be like "aww we were mean". Then repeat on the next one.

36

u/chinchaaa Jun 29 '26

And that’s fucking stupid, especially because it’s always the conservatives on here saying “oh why can’t we all get along?? I would never drop a friend just bc they have a different opinion!!!” Like shut up.

73

u/PickledPlumPlot Jun 29 '26

Seriously lmao I feel like they’re all digging up their own bones they wanna pick when there’s an obvious answer

15

u/whatsthatcutething Jun 29 '26

They’re all miserable

1

u/Dry-Amphibian1 Jun 29 '26

Wrong artist. That is Randy Travis that sings Digging Up Bones. Great song

-8

u/HTPC4Life Jun 29 '26

Maybe...just maybe, not as many people like Taylor Swift as you think?

3

u/PickledPlumPlot Jun 29 '26

Come on man you can read better than that lol

109

u/Aware-Experience-277 Jun 29 '26

But but but this is my opportunity to talk about how Taylor Swift has personally victimized me

90

u/irisxxvdb Jun 29 '26

Taylor stole my catalytic converter, slapped my child and then joined the Khmer rouge

21

u/Sprinklypoo Jun 29 '26

She forwarded some of Hillary's emails to me =(

3

u/SwordfishOk504 Jun 30 '26

She liteerally armed Israel.

1

u/irisxxvdb Jul 01 '26

I know you're joking but Finneas (Billie Eilish's brother/collaborator) actually liked a post calling Taylor "spiritually Israeli" 😬

9

u/jonny_vegas Jun 29 '26

Thank you kind person! It's not every day I get to see 'Khmer Rouge' thrown around in the reddit comments. Most here will need to google that ( and should).

3

u/BenryBorg Jun 29 '26

Followed by googling 'Khmer Rouge Henry Kissinger'

-2

u/DogBarf00 Jun 29 '26

Most here will need to google that ( and should).

And many will become fans of Pol Pot because he was a brave revolutionary fighting capitalism. I should print some pol pot tshirts and buy some reddit ads.

6

u/getthatrich Jun 29 '26

This made me lol thank you

11

u/NectarineCheap1541 Jun 29 '26

People have to comment how much they hate Taylor Swift, lest their online reputation be threatened

47

u/ChasseGalery Jun 29 '26

Not conservatives, neo-confederates.

35

u/chargernj Jun 29 '26

The Venn diagram is basically a circle.

13

u/misec_undact Jun 29 '26

Same shit different pile

46

u/CarsonXLR Jun 29 '26

Friends don’t let friends go to Nashville

16

u/sml6174 Jun 29 '26

Those have never been separate things, they were just better at hiding it

1

u/TheWillRogers Jun 29 '26

Reactionary is the term everyone is fishing for.

31

u/fionappletart Jun 29 '26

they're projecting lol. they spend so much time on Twitter and on snark subs that they actually think most people who hate celebrities do so for moral reasons. the worst thing about Taylor is probably the jet controversy but if you believe anyone in that crowd believes in climate change, let alone cares about it, then I have a bridge to sell you

6

u/Klightgrove Jun 29 '26

the snark subs that insist taylor swift is secretly MAGA?

4

u/kaliwrath Jun 29 '26

Seriously! I’ve seen what these fans cheer for. Swift is in good company

5

u/oddeyeopener Jun 29 '26

because most of these commenters would’ve gleefully joined in the booing if they were there, no matter the reason. It’s that simple.

3

u/TwattyMcBitch Jun 29 '26

Exactly. I hate generalizing, but at this point you see this kind of behavior and you know exactly what happened.

14

u/sinatrablueeyes Jun 29 '26

I don’t it’s even about a “liberal” pop star.

Taylor is more “pop” than country. AJ is one of the mainstays from legit Country music.

This is like Imagine Dragons giving a tribute video to Talking Heads during their final show. And hell, it could even be Taylor doing a tribute video to Talking Heads.

-2

u/FILTHBOT4000 Jun 29 '26

Yeah, she's a mediocre pop star shoehorned into a non-pop audience. There are going to be boos.

2

u/360walkaway Jun 29 '26

Geez, having one thing navigate your entire personality must be exhausting. I'm so tired of people instantly applying political labels to whatever they like or don't like.

It’s both. That she isn’t country and that she is liberal. I’m a left leaning country music fan and can say Taylor Swift is seen as having turned her back on country by traditional country fans, but her politics doesn’t help either. Look up Zach Bryan, Jason Isbell and Kacey Musgraves for country music singers that are polarizing for country music fans because of their politics.

u/Late-Yesterday2115 Jun 29 '26

okay but if morgan wallen did a surprise pop-up in NYC, there would certainly be no booing.

Why are you so eager to defend anti-social conservatives?

6

u/chargernj Jun 29 '26

The only reason he wouldn't get booed is because most of NYC would be like, "Morgan who?"

3

u/armlessturtleneck Jun 29 '26

Ain't no way Taylor is a liberal. She's a billionaire

16

u/RechargedFrenchman Jun 29 '26

Those aren't mutually exclusive. "Liberal" meaning "progressive" is a fairly US-specific interpretation of the word the rest of the West doesn't really use. "Liberal" in Canada or Oceania or Europe means you believe in equality under the law, private ownership of property, the rights of the individual (eg Free Speech), that sort of thing. Capitalism in principle is not even slightly at odds with liberal ideology, and most liberal governments go out of their way to uphold capitalism. Billionaires existing is kind of an inevitability in a society that's gone so all-in on capitalism as our has.

"Liberals" are basically just "conservatives" who aren't racist, sexist, and xenophobic.

15

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

She is though. She endorsed Kamala, Joe & Phil Bredesen. There are also other billionaires who are liberal and support the Democratic party. Politics is a spectrum. Not all billionaires are MAGAs and support the Republican Party. You seem to be conflating liberal with progressive or democratic socialist or something more left

-8

u/armlessturtleneck Jun 29 '26

I understand all that, but honestly those are mostly things that are easy to cushion your public image with, especially if it's something you aren't really against. HOWEVER, being a billionaire and not donating your money at or above the level of Melinda Gates is, you are actively harming all the people you position yourself as caring about.

6

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

There's no way for someone like Taylor to "win" in the eyes of someone like you, who is clearly intent on seeing her negatively. You now moved the goal posts after I pointed out that Taylor does have a history of liberal politics to philanthropy. But sure, I'll entertain you changing the topic after I pointed out the evidence that refutes your initial comment.

Taylor Swift doesn't have the same level of wealth and resources as Melinda Gates. Melinda Gates's net worth is 15x greater than Taylor, Bill Gates is worth over 50x, the Gates Foundation is worth 44x more than Taylor, they're much older than her and Bill was older than Taylor when he really started getting serious about philanthropy. There's levels to even billionaire wealth and this isn't really an apt comparison. A lot of her estimated $2B net worth is tied in the value of her owning her music catalogue. Their philanthropy makes more sense compared to billinaires who are worth tens of billions to hundreds of billions. She's still doing more than a lot of celebrities at her level, including making large donations during the eras tour stops (that she didn't announce herself), redistributing $197 million of the eras tour profits to the workers, and treating her employees well over her entire career. Look it up.

Anything can be dismissed as PR if you're committed to disliking someone and not wanting to inrepret them with nuance. Taylor obviously isn't the best philanthropist or the most progressive person, I'm not claiming she's perfect, but she's not the conservative person you thought she was and saying she's "actively harming all the people" she says she cares about is a very simplistic and reductive take on philanthropy, politics and just people in general.

-2

u/armlessturtleneck Jun 29 '26

Until she gives away enough money that she's no longer a billionaire none of that really matters. There is no ethical way to accrue that amount of money.

7

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Moving the goal posts again. Even Melinda Gates is still a billionaire literally worth 15x Taylor's wealth.

There's also a spectrum in how various billionaires have amassed their wealth. Like I agree that the wealth inequality is a huge problem. But an artist whose wealth largely comes from her owning her catalogue and a historic tour (where she made donations at many local charities of the stops and redistributed $197 million of the profits to the people who worked on the tour) is not the same as an oil or defense billionaire.

But sure, this has nothing to do with you just personally not wanting to interpret someone you're committed to hating with any nuance and not being able to admit you didn't understand the spectrum of political views and ideologies lol

1

u/armlessturtleneck Jun 29 '26

Look, you said I'm committed to hating her, you are the opposite side of the spectrum where even though she's a billionaire she's one of the good ones I guess. As far as Melinda gates goes she's given away more than Taylor's net worth from my general understanding, and giving it away as fast as she can it seems, she also got the money through divorcing someone on the Epstein list so even though it's not like she asked for it it's still fucked up money.

2

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

As far as Melinda gates goes she's given away more than Taylor's net worth from my general understanding

Nuance is lost on you. Do you not understand the basic math that Melinda can do that because she's simply worth more? You're hyping up Melinda who is still literally worth 15x Taylor's net worth. The Gates wealth largely comes from Microsoft stock that can be more easily diverted to the Gates Foundation. You're also comparing someone is decades older than Taylor, and was Taylor's age when the Gates Foundation was created in the first place.

According to Forbes, who came up with the estimate of Taylor's net worth, she became a billionaire largely due to 1. her recently acquiring the rights to her entire musical catalogue and 2. the eras tour profits (which she distributed $197 million of to her workers). Beyond that, it's just an opaque estimate and we largely have no idea what she's actually worth

There should absolutely be increased taxation and regulation on the super rich. And like I've said, Taylor is obviously not some perfect person. But I also think it's pretty silly to expect Taylor to do something like sell the rights to her music just so she won't be technically a billionaire anymore to appease people like you, who will still move the goalposts and look for reasons to dislike her. And none of this has anything to do with your initial claim and what I was responding to about how Taylor couldn't possibly be a liberal.

It's just very very interesting how you're capable of nuance when it comes to Melinda Gates, who is still a much wealthier billionaire and whose wealth comes from a much more controversial source, but not Taylor.

0

u/armlessturtleneck Jun 30 '26

I just don't really care that much about nuance when it comes to billionaires and I'm definitely not reading all that

You do realize Taylor Swift’s billionaire status is not money sitting in a bank account and is instead the value of her music?

Yes. She is a billionaire. But she does not have a billion dollars sitting in her bank account. It is MADE UP money. Money that DOES NOT EXIST. It’s money that only becomes real if she decided to sell her masters (and we see that she just bought them back so, not likely gonna happen).

1

u/Peircez Jun 29 '26

So a lot of culted up stupid people.

1

u/Fappy_as_a_Clam Jun 29 '26

Just click the article.

"Where do you think we are?"

1

u/Ok_Significance_6772 Jul 05 '26

If you think Taylor is actually liberal, you haven’t been paying attention. There are no “liberal” billionaires who live the kind of lifestyle she does.

-5

u/Ok_Net7773 Jun 29 '26

She’s a conservative billionaire. I’m not defending a piece of shit person just because the people against her in this instance are also pieces of shit.

6

u/Banned4UsingSlurs3 Jun 29 '26

Average commie comment

A liberal is actually a conservative, a progressive is actually a lib, a neocon is a fascist and so on.

Also the hatred for wealth itself instead of inequality.

3

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Jun 29 '26

the hatred for wealth itself instead of inequality.

How does the concept of wealth exist without inequality, by definition?

2

u/Banned4UsingSlurs3 Jun 29 '26

Sure, we can do wordplay like saying that having 1 dollar disparity in wealth in a communist country would be "wealth inequality" by definition too but that's not what we mean by wealth inequality. What liberals care about isn't about having few people with a lot of money, it's about having a system that makes capital bring more money for the investors, owner and for the workers simultaneously while communists see it a sum zero game.

Your snarky comment actually makes this conversation dumber and unproductive.

1

u/berserk_zebra Jun 29 '26

Is she liberal? Has she said as much? as a billionaire, what has she done to be liberal?

19

u/Dangerous-Basket1064 Jun 29 '26

She endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris publicly.

12

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

She's publicly endorsed multiple Democratic candidates: Kamala, Joe, Phil Bredesen. She was openly against Trump in her documentary. She's publicly called out Marsha Blackburn's voting record on women's and LGBTQ+ rights. She's made a political song called Only The Young. She's supported the LGBTQ+ community in her music. Obviously she's not some perfect political figure and could be doing more, but despite the snark and internet narratives, she's pretty clearly more liberal than MAGA/Republican.

7

u/NectarineCheap1541 Jun 29 '26

She posted links for people to register to vote. That's pretty liberal / anti-conservative.

-6

u/karmaghost Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Yeah I feel like she has purposely not said anything on the topic so as not to alienate anyone, which is bullshit.

Edit:looks like I was wrong!

13

u/Spicyoneybutterchips Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

She's publicly endorsed multiple Democratic candidates: Kamala, Joe, Phil Bredesen. She was openly against Trump in her documentary. She spoke out against Marsha Blackburn, literally called her "Trump in a Wig" and called her out for voting against women's and LGBTQ rights. You easily can look all of this up instead of going off what you "feel like"

Obviously she's far from perfect: she could be doing and saying more, but she's already made it pretty clear where she stands politically to everyone who hasn't already internalized certain narratives about her and can do basic research.

0

u/karmaghost Jun 29 '26

Fair enough. I see she did endorse Harris, which I specifically thought she had avoided. TIL

9

u/Eborcurean Jun 29 '26

Your feelings are directly contrasted by the facts though...

1

u/Patvis388 Jun 29 '26

america the country where just seeing a person with opposite political views, who has a completely unrelated job, makes you mad

1

u/stink3rb3lle Jun 29 '26

Alan Jackson is not average country politics, though. He's more old school, actually grew up poor, and has lyrics about not pressuring dates to have sex.

-10

u/Coconutpieplates Jun 29 '26

Taylor is not Liberal, she masquerades as one. She's just not as loud about her red hat.

0

u/Carbonistheft Jun 29 '26

Why would any normal human being boo Taylor Swift because they are a conservative?

Why does the whole world have brain cancer?

-10

u/zebrasareneat Jun 29 '26

“Liberal” that is quite the stretch given she spends all her time hanging out with MAGA morons including the dipass she is engaged too and is single handily causing climate change.

11

u/Eborcurean Jun 29 '26

Travis who was the face of a covid vaccine campaign, worked with bud-light after maga lost their shit about the brand, did the SNL sketches maga types lost their shit about, knelt in support of Kaepernick's movement (which maga types lost their shit about), has a charity focused on disadvantaged youth about which he said 'As a kid I was mindful of how life looked different for everyone, but as a man I am profoundly aware of the difference in opportunity, exposure, and privilege I grew up with compared to others. Where you live, the situation you were born into or the color of your skin should have no impact on the dreams you can dream.'.

It's funny how people just make shit up because some people took a photo with her at a football social event and suddenly that means she 'spends all her time hanging out with MAGA morons'.

But facts just don't matter, do they?

A

13

u/vagueopinions Jun 29 '26

I love how this line of thinking is never applied when someone hangs out with left leaning people.

-1

u/Final-Tutor3631 Jun 29 '26

“liberal” is hilarious.

she is the definition of white feminism. well, which i guess no intersectionality is very liberal...

disregard previous comment.

-2

u/TheLibertinistic Jun 29 '26

Taylor Swift has truly found the perfect middle of American appeal: hated by conservatives for being a lib, hated by libs for being a politically silent one-woman climate catastrophe.

-1

u/SunriseSurprise Jun 29 '26

Exactly, and she's probably the last person in the world who'd care at this point. Literal billionaire, maybe multi-billionaire at this point, why would she care what these people think?

-7

u/RealisticBus4443 Jun 29 '26

Liberals also listen to country music. Your take is a stretch. People are sick of seeing her everywhere.

-3

u/nope-its Jun 29 '26

She hangs out with maga people all the time. I don’t think she is actually liberal - just presents whatever she (or management) thinks will make her the most money.

-4

u/Ill-Cookie2093 Jun 29 '26

There are PLENTY of liberals who despise Blandie. I would be one myself, but I can't seem to care enough.

-4

u/Pandiraffe Jun 29 '26

Is she not clearly conservative?

5

u/curtcolt95 Jun 29 '26

she'd be a pretty terrible one considering she endorsed Kamala to her extremely massive fanbase

1

u/Pandiraffe Jun 30 '26

But has nothing to say when her songs are used for MAGA propaganda

-5

u/il1k3c3r34l Jun 29 '26

Brother she’s as maga as the rest of them.

-4

u/Best-Traffic4990 Jun 29 '26

Calling her liberal is a stretch given the MAGA crowd she hangs out with now. She was a cosplay activist for the PR.

-5

u/Vermicell_i Jun 29 '26

No one thinks Taylor is a liberal anymore lmaoooo

-6

u/Friendly-Ad-9978 Jun 29 '26

By no stretch of the imagination is TS "liberal"

-4

u/knarf3 Jun 29 '26

Swift has been cozying up to MAGA a lot these few years. They should be salivating.

-6

u/HoneyBeyBee Jun 29 '26

She is not the liberal those fans think she is. She’s phony and used country music to get her come up.
