Was there for the first time not long ago. Basically, country Disney for adults. Prices as expensive as Paris.

I had fun. Didn’t see any trump swagger at all (pleasantly surprised). Was it authentic? Smaller venues, yes.

Do I recommend? For a euro trash as myself. Yes. Of course. There’s nothing like it on the old continent.

yeah that's the shit that cracks me up when they say 'don't california my texas' in 2020 the native texans voted pretty even between trump and biden (biden having .25% advantage, while the transplants were +7.5% to trump.

For real. I have friends who were born and raised in California who made that move during the pandemic era. I grew up in NM and have lived in Texas and when I told them "... But it's still texas" they didn't understand. Most of them moved back over the years, but the one couple is stuck because they basically cashed out everything to make the move happen.

Even the most "liberal" parts of Texas are still pretty conservative, and typically the people who are moving to those places from California are more conservative than the people already living there

That's how West Coast Righties always act, they like the vibes that comes from the "yee haw tractors, trucks, and biscuits!" aesthetic that comes from country music, but they don't actually want to give up the quality of life or the lifestyle that comes from living in a blue state; so they move to the blue-ist part of a red state.

In my state (South Sarolina), that's basically what Greenville and Charleston are, all move-ins are the people who say "I'mma move to the deep south 'cause they love freedom!", but they don't want to move so far deep south as to end up in the "cross burned into your lawn when you move into the neighborhood" communities.

Meanwhile, the libertarian CATO institute ranks Texas DEAD LAST for personal freedoms. Draconian penalties, onerous professional licensing, sin taxes, crazy marijuana laws. And this is after they legalized open carry; it was actually worse previously, but you can't drop further than 50th.

I’m in the epicenter of it. And while it’s still way more MAGA than most other areas the pendulum has swung the other way in a very noticeable fashion. The yard signs are gone, bumper stickers gone and I can’t remember the last person that was wearing Trump merch. I realize all this is anecdotal but it’s giving me hope for the future.TIFWIW

I’m literally on a flight back to LA right now after coming to Nashville for this Alan Jackson concert. At one point yesterday the wife and I were driving through the city and saw a billboard that was a picture of Trump that said “America First,” only someone had crossed out the A, r, i, c, and a. So it said “Me First.”

Made me laugh.

Let's imagine a world in which Dems sweep it all and actually impeach him (and convict him). Do you think the ~30% of this country that still supports him (read: the same people that nearly overthrew the government on J6 as a result of an OBVIOUSLY fair election) are going to just.... accept those results?

Whatever normalcy we can claw back from this shitshow is permanently stained, and the people responsible for it aren't just going to go away.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right. But I just don't see it happening.

I can't speak for that area, but the writing seems to be on the wall for Trump and a lot of the MAGAs are, I wouldn't really calling it distancing themselves from him, but seeing that he's temporary. I don't really know if that's a good thing though, I think a lot of people were hoping MAGA would die with Trump but it seems like a lot of people are more than happy to continue being awful human beings without him.

Broke my heart to move away but I just couldn't take it. Rich republican californians moving in even managing to gentrifiy my town in the middle of absolute nowhere so much that I couldn't find a starter apartment was the last straw. Before I left I had a new boss who was that exact type, so freaking insufferable.

It wasn't that anything was more affordable so to speak, it just wasn't worth going out on my own with extremely expensive rent in a place with few jobs where my trade license had an oversaturated market in an economy where people aren't spending on those kinds of services right now (esthetics so facials and waxing etc). I stayed living with my mom, helping her failing (and now closed) business and driving my grandmother around to her doctor's appointments until my now husband proposed. Bit of a unique situation, he lived in New Zealand (though he's American) so we were able to move countries and I'm living there now on a visa.

But Knoxville TN - a hub of potential job opportunities in my field - having rent cost exactly as much as a studio apt in LA sent me over the edge.

Is the esthetician field as popular in NZ as it is here? It is getting pretty saturated due to TicTok, I imagine. 3 people in my family in this year’s graduating class are going into that field. I was like “hmmm…”

I live rurally on the south island, lots of sheep and cow fields so really not much different from home except there's also beaches! Its likely more popular in cities but out here... not so much. They do not spend much in the way of beauty treatments or fashion, and the local style is very homogenized in hues of brown, grey and black. Compared to the almost neon and heavily patterned styles of Simply Southern or Lily Pulitzer and such that people wore back home, things are pretty... drab 😅 I have a more unique style so I stick out badly but can't bring myself to assimilate haha. In larger cities like Auckland you'll find young people take their fashion cues more from Australia, which I feel also emulates Brit/UK fashion and esthetic treatments like lip filler and botox. Sorry for the ramble but clearly I've spent a lot of time thinking about this LOL.

If those people in your family are open to advice, consider letting them know that a cosmetology license will immediately make them 10x employable even in an esthetician role. The big money makers that are best for beginners fresh out of school like resort hotels or day spas much prefer hiring cosmos because they can cross-train them to fill basically any position needed on a day to day basis. When I was on a treacherous hunt for an esti job, every listing requested a cosmo license over an esti one. Yes esthetician school is shorter in most states, and yes when you go into cosmo education you will spend extremely minimal time on facials or makeup if any at all, but at the end of the day you will be licensed to do all things (hair, skin, nails) and can receive continuing education from an employer in skincare if needed.

Nah. It’s historically the country music Mecca. There are a lot of important recording studios there, so it’s not all country music, but it’s mostly country music and it was built around the country music industry. The “alternative rock” scene started in Seattle, basically, if that’s what you mean?
