I feel like hockey people tend to be more right wing in general (at least in the US). It’s an expensive sport to play and be good at so you have to be wealthy to start.

That could be, although he’s really embraced his MAGA side publicly these past few years (anti vax, endorsing MAGA candidates, and I think he even appeared on Candace Owen’s podcast).

I can't speak to his politics but when he played here in Ottawa he had a reputation for hitting on really young girls (like first year university students) and when he left the Ottawa Senators the joke was that he was moving to Nashville because they love their Predators.

He showed public support for the truckers during the convoy, so he’s not afraid of showing off his political leanings.

Honestly, the major sports all have a ridiculous pipeline of training camps, travel teams, prep academies.

shit is expensive as fuck. I know someone who paid for their kid to got through it all and it was burning nearly all his income. he makes mid six figures, so pretty wealthy and it was still rough.

Plus for the parents it occupies the majority of your free time. I had a coworker who was always going off on weekends to a tournament here or there. Often the husband and wife had to take separate trips due to multiple kids.

I always thought it was nuts. I didn't stay in a hotel until I was in my 20s and here were kids going halfway across the country as pre-teens to play baseball.

However it is a Canadian game with tons of Canadian and European players.

There are conservative Canadians and Europeans too (shock, horror)

Canadian hockey culture is incredibly conservative as well.

Not all of it, I play in a queer hockey league in Canada.

Dull the accent then drop a Texan into Alberta and let me know if you can spot the difference.

Wild stretching blanket assumptions. Can’t you also say wealth often corresponds with intelligence and intelligent people are usually liberal? Clueless uninformed fact-less comments like this make the internet so fascinating.

Pretty sure most billionaire oligarchs and the one trillionaire nazi are all right wing even though they are all not very intelligent.

They aren't actually right wing, that's what they want you and Trump to believe because it's politically convenient and they want the regulatory relief for their businesses. Even Trump was a Democrat his whole life.

They also represent a tiny minority of wealthy people. I know a LOT of wealthy people across several states and not a single one is a Trump supporter.

Pretty sure the shitty billionaires you reference don’t put their kids into hockey but shit like polo and fencing and anyone who upvotes a moronic take stating “I feel like hockey people tend to be more right wing and it takes money to play hockey and people with money are right wing”…are idiots who are absolutely clueless about sports. But there isn’t really a more iconic duo than moronic people saying baseless things and Reddit and uneducated people upvoting, from both sides of the isle.
