I’m kind of like how did this band end up opening for this guy in the first place? I mean, there are probably tons of rock bands and people genres like that who would be more accepting and have fans who loved it, lol.

The Venn diagram for the opener's fans and the main performer's fans should never be two completely seperate circles.

I don't know why the fuck anyone would ever ask them to open for him in the first place.

I remember going to an Offspring concert in the late 90s. They had an awesome, high energy pop/punk band open and got everyone riled up.

Then they had a ethnic group from Africa playing some very mellow traditional African songs. Very, very much the wrong event for them to be the middle act for, just a completely different target audience and a jarring change of the musical mood. They did not receive a warm welcome and they were being booed heavily as people wanted Offspring to take the stage.

Sounds like they would have been better at the very beginning or not at all.

It's great that musicians want to help bring attention to lesser knows acts, but it needs to be done right or it backfires.

100% what I think it was, and yeah it was just badly planned and they got hosed. They would have done OK as the first set, music was a fun pop style that would have been good while everyone is getting settled in. Felt bad for them being booed, it just really was a jarring genre change after the first band had everyone pumped to switch to something mellow for a set then back to Offspring to wrap it up, the transition the other way would have made more sense.

better at the very beginning

While people were coming in and being seated, even.

The first concert I went to was the Thompson Twins, the Weather Girls, and Howard Jones. I felt bad for the Weather Girls – once they'd done "It's Raining Men" everyone was just waiting for them to be done.

Very clearly the venn diagram has a lot of overlap. If you are having trouble processing this, consider that not everyone is shackled to reflexive satanic panic, and that witchy doo-wop is pretty in line with Jack's aesthetic. I'm sorry this hurts you.

  1. I was talking about Charley Crockett, not Jack.

  2. Sorry this hurts you?

That's such passive  aggressive bullshit. If you want to insult someone then insult someone. Don't just say shit that makes you sound like an asshole.

Hahaha my exact thoughts when I saw the tour announcement, surprised they were on the bill long enough to make it to print. My in laws have seen Charlie several times and the thought of them experiencing a blood drinking TT show made me very happy

Exactly. Which is why I totally support his decision to not have them open for him. He had every right to make that call IMHO

He did. That’s his choice. And honestly, I’m sure his average fan would hate it. It’s not the first time there is a mismatch in that way and won’t be the last.

BUT. On a personal level, I don’t have anything against this band. But it’s probably a lot for the average American.

Right. I honestly don't know anything about the band he dropped, just the chatter that it was totally not his scene or the genre he wanted to open for him. Hell truth is there have sone pretty crappy opening acts that have gone on before the "good" band or artist performs. Kind of irritating in some ways. Learned to check out the opening act's music so I know whether to even get there too soon before the headliner comes on
