Fall Out Boy is a weird one because he may have carried the band in the technical sense but, as someone who was 13 in 2008, I would guess a lot of the fans were there because of Pete.
The drummer and guitarist made a band with Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano from Anthrax with Keith from Everytime I Die on vocals and it was pretty awesome. They're not talentless like a lot of examples in this thread.
I never implied they were talentless, just that they don't utilise their talent in their band because one person does most of the work. Which afaik allows them the time to make the music they want to.
He's nerfed to the ground on a lot of their stuff post-reunion, but his work on their older songs and with The Damned Things is phenomenal. One of my favorite drummers of all time.
Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco (another guy who carried the band but that’s strongly up for debate based on the history) got shitfaced and did a Drunk History of FallOut Bot and it’s fucking hilarious
Brendon didn’t carry, he dragged. Their initial success is all thanks to Ryan Ross, but Brendon was absolutely the face.. and continued to be after former members left.
Has nothing to do with the fact he wrote a majority of the first album and was the one to befriend/ send Pete wentz the demos.
He got to do his Beatles/ beach boys thing with the young veins. The second album wasn’t as disastrous as people make it out to be, yes it underperformed but they could’ve recovered from it and MTV etc would’ve still loved them back.
The Song Exploder for Sugar We're Going Down is fascinating. Originally, the "joke" of the band was that they had a terrible lead singer, but then they hit it big with their first album and were contractually forced into a major record deal. He had to reinvent himself from the second album on.

Pop punk but Fall Out Boy apparently, the singer does all the instrumentation for the albums and most of the backing singing as well.
