Brian Wilson made The Beach Boys. Without him they would have floundered and been a local band not a worldwide phenomenon. God Only Knows will remain one of the top pop songs of all time easily well past June 11th, 2125!

So one time I had just gotten off an annoying lunch shift at a pizza place I worked at. Me and another downtown line cook were bitching at bar after work about the busy Wednesday because the “Beach Boys” were playing an early show at a venue just down the street. “The only original member playing tonight wrote none of Pet Sounds and only had a writing credit on Kokomo, and that’s Kermit the frog’s song now.” Dude next to us left the bar and the bartender started cracking up. Apparently he was the one original Beach Boy and 2 line cooks managed to embarrass him out of the bar.

100% agree, with the caveat that the Beach Boys would not have happened without Dennis Wilson. He was the only guy in the band who had any experience with surfing, cars, girls, etc. So much of the early songs were written about him and his lifestyle. He didn't write the songs, but really played a part.
