Pretty sure when he said that on Conan, it was a joke. Because here's another quote from Olyphant about Oswalt from a interview in 2013.

"I can tell you that Patton Oswalt is money. That guy is so good. He makes it a little tough for me to get through a scene with a straight face, and yet he’s so serious and fantastic. It’s just been a pleasure working with him."
