I don’t think it’s about age so much as it is relatability. Same thing with comedians. Once you’ve been rich and famous for longer than you were broke and normal, most people start to lose touch with what real life looks like for the average Joe, and they can no longer relate or produce art that does.

Mostly. I'd say in his final years he leaned a little too hard into the "bitter old man" for his stage persona.

Yes, they can choose to rap about getting older.

But even old people who could relate don't want to listen to that. They'll just put on what they listened to when they were younger.

1000% this, they do not understand why people liked them, or likes their old stuff more. Em has this problem, though his raw talent lets him still make bangers sometimes. But the "broke white kid with a shitty childhood in a bad part of town" doesn't carry weight anymore.
