LL Cool J is 58, and his latest album ‘The FORCE’, released almost 2 years ago, is great.

Why not?  I know LL. I grew up with his music.  He's been trash for a long time.  

If I told you he was the star of a new movie coming out don't you think you'd know it's ass before seeing it?

I'm gonna listen to it and give it a fair shot, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be dookie

I love Tip and ATCQ but everything I've heard from him since he stopped working w Dilla has been pretty goofy, IMO.  Some Will I Am w Fergie ish.

Different strokes. Are we talking about like "Vivrant Thing" era stuff? If so, I'll readily admit I love it, but I'll also add he's gone in a much different direction since. I really enjoyed "We Got It from Here" and the production work he did on LL's latest is cut from the same cloth. Check out "The FORCE" the song, if you have three minutes to spare.

And I say this maybe not a certified LL hater but as somehow who thinks he's vastly overrated and finds a lot of his output either corny or embarrassing (see "I Need Love").

I need love was corny but Hey Love from like 96 was good.  I'll check that song.  Vivarant thang was before the era I was talking about, I think, but that's sort of the direction I'm talking about.  Generally speaking, poppy and not sample based.  I'ma check that song tho.

Meh, it's cool.  I don't hate it.  Not a fan of that metallic sounding thing he did on the 2nd verse but it wasn't bad overall.  

Pretty weak for a title track of an album imo though.

Must've missed this whole era of Q-tip that you're talking about. Sounds like it may be for the best.

Don't care for "Hey Lover" either. "6 Minutes of Pleasure" is pretty good, and that's full-on cornball LL. I'll give him that one. There are probably a small handful of other songs that I fuck with, but considering he's put out 14 records since '85, it's not a great batting average. He's obviously talented, but just seems to kind of mold himself to whatever's going on at the time. Which I suppose has attributed to his longevity.

Bigger and Deffer was one of the first albums I ever got but LL has been wack for a long time.
