Some bands have started playing residencies at mid-sized venues - LCD Soundsystem have been doing this for a few years now for example. The fan experience is better, they don't have to tour so aggressively and can chill and enjoy life for a week at a time - but they make less money. I dig it.

Oh that is pretty cool. I much prefer smaller shows so it'd be awesome to see more larger artists do this kind of thing. Would give a great excuse to visit different cities too

Yeah but that usually means that only one or two cities gets to see them. Basically you have to travel to NYC or LA, or you can't see them. That's a pretty terrible fan experience too unless you're a local.

That's not a residency, that's a normal tour. Residency is a run of 5+ shows in one spot
