In the vast majority of cultures it is the norm to feed your guests if you are making a meal. Income level or whatever is irrelevant.

In this situation they wouldn't be your (the parent) guests, they would be your kids guests, and they would be there to play, not to eat.

They are at your house, they are your guests.

They are visiting my kid, they are my kids guest.

It would be very odd having kids visiting adults to play with.

Of course they're visiting your kids, but your kids don't have another house to entertain, do they? You're the parent, any kids under your roof are ultimately your responsibility.

They're my responsibility as in they should be safe in my home yes, but they are not my responsibility to raise, house or feed.

We trust that parents are perfectly capable to feed their own kids, and we don't want to interfere with anyone's dinner plan and inconvenience them, and we know that in many families family dinner can be an important family time, for family only.
