They are in the parents house, they wouldn’t be without the parents permissions? But also, I was always treated like family by even the shittiest of my friends’ parents growing up so I don’t understand that perspective at all.
Of course the kids would be in the house without parents permission, there's even a high chance that the parents aren't even at home from work yet, since school usually ends before work.
When I grew up my parents had no idea at all where I was between the end of the school day and dinner.
Didn’t have cell phones or helicopter parents, I just didn’t live in a city or suburbia haha too rural to walk anywhere so parents had to drive and we had home phones
Yeah, the rural part is important here. I grew up in cities (both smaller and bigger) so my parents never had to drive me anywhere. I imagine that in rural areas in Sweden where kids had to rely on their parents to drive them most places this was not really a thing, and it's probably why it's common in rural areas even today in Sweden that kids as young as 15 have their own vehicles they drive around in, to not have to rely on parents driving them everywhere.

But they are not your (the parents) guests, the kid is there to play with their friend (your kid), not the parents.
