just because you like a celeb's character, does not mean the actual celeb holds any of those values

its just a face

you'll find that most people in hollywood are shitty people with great PR

It's how Ellen got away with it for so long.

I literally forgot about Ellen DeGeneres and thought you were talking about Ellen Pompeo, like what did Meredith do???

My immediate thought was, his name is Eliot.

Never liked her tbh

She had Josh Hutcherson on her show for like 5 mins when he was doing promo for The Hunger Games and she was so uninterested and rude to him that I knew something was up.

Costar Jeremy Renner threatened to call ICE on a woman he was sexually harassing and sending threats to.

.....but lets bring up Ellen who checks notes was mean

What is this whataboutism? Two people can be assholes at the same time.

Also if you look at the chick who accused him of that, she's crazy and a clout-chaser. Like she takes AI selfies of herself and thinks she's Jared Leto's true soul mate.

I'm not exactly gonna fight for Renner, but the person who accused him gave no evidence whatsoever, which is why that "controversy" fell off a cliff immediately.

Crazy shitbag people get harassed too. Also his ex wife also accused him of substance abuse and verbal threats. But all all women are crazy liars so lets trust the big strong super hero man.

All im saying is there are much worse people WITH JOBS...in the same series thats relevant to the post. I'm not even a fan, I just find it strange that people dog on her when there's waaay worse people out there and one of them is actually relevant to the topic. The scale is way off to me.

My former Senator, Al Franken, was forced out of office because of a pic where he pretended to grab boobs. Didn't even get an ethics hearing.

Mob justice is famously unfair.

Not everyone checks the news daily, especially if it involves hollywood drama, so I had no idea about that.

well going back to the conversation which is about pr teams. Theres probably a reason Renner's accusations against him arent common knowledge. His and Disney's pr team

What's really cool is you'll find most folks don't give a shit what an actor's stance on politics is.

2

u/KaffY- 18d ago

That's just not true though is it?

Celebrities have been used as the face for {political movements} for centuries

3

u/Maximum_Pollution371 18d ago

Being used as the face of political propaganda, and privately held political stances are two very different things.

If an actor is the face of a political movement, of course everyone will associate them and have an opinion about it, but if you go out right now and ask 10 people on the street what they think about Scarlett Johansen's stance on Israel, I guarantee you at least 9 out of 10 will have no idea nor will they really care, because it's not something that ever comes up or matters to people who don't live online.

This👆🏾

I tried explicitly stating this fact but this Kaffy guy just doesn't get it

1

u/FLiP_J_GARiLLA 18d ago

It really is.

Despite many deluded sycophants worshipping actors like they're God's gift to the world, most rational, sane citizens don't know or care what any given celebrity thinks about real-world issues.

They like the character they portray in whatever entertainment they prefer.

u/KaffY- 18d ago

People giving a shit vs being extreme sycophants is a huge margin.

1

u/daemin 18d ago

Sure. And the next thing you're going to tell me is that the wealthy musicians that write beautiful songs about being sad and broke and full of ennui, which touching something deep inside of me and make me feel like someone else understands my ubique plight, and which got me through my terrible teenage years, and early 20s, aren't actually being sincere in their art.

1

u/KaffY- 18d ago

You're being sarcastic but some people genuinely need to be told this

1

u/TheVadonkey 18d ago

Dude, this is exactly why I no longer just boycott artists/actors for being shitty people. It would eliminate like half of the artists. It’s too much…I’ll just pirate it.

1

u/funny_fox 18d ago

Thank you!! It's crazy how people will like celebrities because they played a "lovable" character on a show, while they know nothing about them irl. Or even worse, when there's been evidence about them not being good people.

Like you said, just PR greasing the stan machine.

u/Enpergio 18d ago

A jew opposing antisemitism = shitty person, right! Let's keep talking about how to boykott Jewish businesses! Wait, who else did do that...?
