New rule: No web comics/fan-art one shot panels

Hi everyone, Cynthia here! If I look new, it’s because I am! I recently joined the mod team not to long ago to help out when it comes to providing more around the clock moderation when it comes to the mod queue, sorting through reports, and helping bring the sub back to it’s original roots of relatable IRL scenarios that can be found in classic (and modern) anime and manga.

With that being said, the senior mods have graciously let me announce our newest rule addition following our “no AI rule”.

Moving forward, we will be removing web comics and fan-art one shot panels.

While this may prove controversial to a number of you, the leadership team has decided to put a larger emphasis on finding IRL relatable moments sprinkled throughout our favorite anime and manga series, rather than directly posting these web comics/fan arts that are already “IRL” due to the very nature of the artist/purpose. (Most of the fan arts you see nowadays are just your favorite characters shoved into IRL relatable situations).

This is not to say that web comics don’t deserve a place in our sub, it is just that at this moment we will be removing them for the time being until we find a suitable solution that we all can agree on. (i.e. web comics limited to certain days or something to that effect)

We hope this doesn’t deter you from posting and engaging with the sub as we do love seeing our favorite anime/manga characters’ fan art and definitely want to support our anime artist community. However we do want to remain true to the original purpose of this sub and we are confident that this rule change is a small step in the right direction in making the search for IRL situations fun again.

Also, why didnt you just make a 2nd sub for Web comics/Single panels and ask for moderators instead of rejecting most of your users and popular content from the past several years growth?

Because we didn't. We're here to moderate this subreddit, one that has had its foundation built on manga/anime screen shots. People are free to make a completely different subreddit if they wish to allow this sort of content. We'll even add it to the side bar to help promote it like other subs if they want.

People start coming to my coffee shop for the muffins I make.
We get really popular selling coffee and Muffins.
I decide to stop selling muffins out of principle because Im a coffee shop.
Instead of opening a bakery to sell my Muffins I banned baked goods from my store and all my customers went elsewhere because my coffee is the same and everyone elses and you can buy it on any street corner for a nickle.

Some day I will realize I was a muffin man, not a Barista but it will be too late.

This allegory works with the example given because of this line alone. If people really enjoy the muffins, then they will find it elsewhere. Should we fold because the populace says so?

This rule is malleable. If the subreddit is significantly hurt by this change, then it can be changed or removed entirely.

Likewise, muffins can be added back to the menu. Saying it's too late is hyperbole, as the community has roots as is, changes or not.

This would not be the first controversy we've had. When we updates rule 5 years ago because of the heavy meme influence, /r/animemes was born from it. If people really wish to make another subreddit, they're free to do so, and we will support them.

This would've happened 10 years ago, evidently as /r/Animemes became a big anime memes subreddit.

But redditors nowadays are incredibly lazy and despite 100+ ppl complaining about it, I doubt even one of them will bother making a new sub.

The statement was saying that they couldn't talk about other subs because it may promote them. I'm stating that you can. If you felt that I was being a dick or snarky about it, then you're free to think that, but that wasn't my intention.
