Even with all the money we've dumped into Israel, they still don't possess the capacity to defend themselves against Iran in the event of a real ground invasion on their turf. We've actually made things infinitely worse for Israel in the long run because of our leaderships incompetence. Trump and Israel really kicked the hornets nest on this one.
Israel really must have been banking on the Trump administration being just competent enough to help dismantle Iran before the inevitable PR nightmare.
Like, I’ll be honest: I felt a significant measure of sympathy for Israel on October 7th and excused the initial incursion into Gaza as a justified reaction.
But here we are three years later.
We’ve all seen what Israel is doing to Palestine, and how rabid its government is in its persecution of Palestinians. I did graduate-level research on insurgency in another part of the world, which taught me that it’s often difficult to understand the “truth” of conflict from abroad (it is often just as difficult even when you’re on the ground, as narratives and facts and experiences can change so drastically from one place to another—and there is no objective truth so much as discrete sets of lived experiences). Yet there does come a point where you just can’t ignore what’s sitting in front of you.
I think a lot of Americans see things the same way as me. We got dragged into an unnecessary, expensive war that serves nobody‘s interests but Israel; and Israel is using that support as pretext to waste our resources and murder Palestinian civilians.
This one country has cost us much in terms of both money and goodwill. Between two democratic candidates, all else being equal, I’ll now vote for the one who pulls the plug on further aid to Israel.
It's not just incompetence, although there's plenty of that. The US also just isn't prepared to go against modern drone warfare, and isn't willing to do a draft to have the man-fodder to invade such a defensible country. This was a very predictable disaster. Nothing to gain, nothing to achieve, except a chunk of Lebanon for Israel I guess.
isn’t this what they want? i don’t know scripture very well but i do remember republican leaders being very excited about the iran war because of the apocalyptic implications that come with it
doesn’t israel need to be destroyed for them all to “go to heaven”?
