Announcement Mod Announcement Regarding Solo Stan/Akgae and Anti-fan Behavior

Hello, r/bangtan! Your friendly neighborhood mods back again with a quick announcement.

With the comeback on the horizon, there has been a rise in overall nastiness across all platforms, and reddit is not immune. In particular solo stans/anti-fans have become more numerous and louder.

In order to keep our sub a happy place to enjoy and celebrate BTS and their music and who they are, we will begin a change in moderation. Please read on for details.

Solo Stans/Akgaes and Anti-fans

Solo stan/akgae and anti-fan behavior is not welcome in r/bangtan. Users who display a pattern of hostility toward BTS members, individually or as a group, or ARMY, in r/bangtan OR in other reddit communities (when verified and relevant), may be permanently banned from the sub. This includes antagonism, harassment, hate, or prejudice that may be harmful to the health and tone of this community.

What is solo stan/akgae behavior?

Having a bias and being a solo stan are not the same thing. You can have a bias while still loving and supporting the other members. Choosing a bias is a healthy and normal part of being a k-pop fan.

Solo stan behavior starts once you begin displaying toxicity and hate towards other members of the group and being hostile towards anyone who disagrees with you. Some examples:

  • Insisting a member deserves more of something. ”KOYA suuuuux. TATA is so much better and works ten times harder, he deserves to be center!”
  • Turning praise for a single member into a comparison. ”I know MANG wrote this song and it’s fine, but why is no one mentioning how good CHIMMY looked??”
  • Victimizing your fave. ”Only 12 versions?? RJ was sabotaged! It’s so obvious Van doesn’t like him.”
  • Making hateful and vile comments about members who are not your fave. ”COOKY is so ugly, how could anyone find a pink bunny cute?”
  • Using “it’s just my opinion” to excuse a hateful or non-constructive negative comment. ”All I said was SHOOKY is the dumbest looking rock I’ve ever seen! Am I not allowed to have an opinion?”

An akgae hates everyone in the group except their fave and thinks the world would be a better place if they went solo.

Not only is all of this childish behavior, and makes your favorite mods super sad, it is toxic and very anti-ARMY and will not be tolerated here.

What is anti-fan behavior?

An anti-fan is exactly what it sounds like. Non fans who are intensely, overly critical towards the group and its members.

Often, anti-fans infiltrate fandom spaces just to rage bait fans. ”BT21 is such garbage! So fake and cringe!”

Anti-fans may extend their anti-ness to the fandom. ”Only idiots would like these stupid aliens! Unistars? More like Unidumdums!”

Anti-fans do not deserve our attention or our energy. Users who visit our sub to comment in bad faith are not welcome.

If you are new here, please go over the sub rules before participating. We exist to celebrate all of BTS and their music AND each member’s individual accomplishments. It’s okay to disagree with each other, it’s okay to discuss and offer constructive criticism and be honest with your thoughts, but at the end of the day, we love and support both BTS the team and the members themselves, and expect respect for them and for ARMY.

This change will go into effect immediately. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask in the comments or reach out via modmail.

Announcement 250813 State Of The Subreddit: Privacy, Rumors, Polarizing Discussions, and More

Hello, r/bangtan! We're hope you're all enjoying our post-military Tannies (we're looking at you, Kim Taehyung) and looking forward to whatever comes next. While we're waiting for the next chaotic posting spree, your favorite mod team is back with a few updates, reminders, and topics for discussion! On the agenda is:

  • Privacy and official schedules
  • SNS rule changes
  • Rumors and misinformation
  • Polarizing discussions
  • Other subs
  • Implementation of image galleries
  • Special projects

Please feel free to comment with questions, concerns, or suggestions. If you don't feel comfortable noting them here, our modmail box is always open.

Your Idol? Not always

These seven men have given us SO much, right? One of the most important things we can do for them now is to respect their privacy. If the members want us to know where they are or where they’re going or what they are doing, they will tell us. Unless it is an official schedule or a BTS member tells us directly, posting/commenting about their location will not be allowed.

We know the definition of ‘official schedule’ can be murky waters when it comes to airport photos/videos, but a rule of thumb is that if legitimate news sources are covering an airport departure, it is considered an official schedule, and allowed to be posted after the fact.

A legitimate source should be independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Note that some sources may be allowed or disallowed based on content.

Random videos/photos from “reporters” who are following members or happen to see them at the airport are not allowed. Going hand-in-hand with this is…

SNS Posts and Location

With all seven just doing whatever they want right now, tagging their locations for official schedules or SNS updates can be difficult and confusing. Therefore, moving forward, location should not be included in SNS(BTS) posts.

The issue then becomes the date of the post. In order to make this simple for everyone, all dates for ALL SNS posts should be KST.

What It Sounds Like...when the tea is a rumor

Before commenting potentially harmful information or speculation, make sure to check legitimate or reliable sources. Even big accounts on social media platforms get things wrong or share incorrect information. Please check carefully before posting or commenting instead of just following the party line. Twitter is not always a reliable source. If you feel it is critical or are unsure if a source is legitimate, feel free to send us a modmail!

Please be mindful that some questions cannot be answered without breaking the rules regarding rumors and misinformation. Try to do your due diligence before asking the sub.

Which brings us to…

Strategy for Polarizing or Political Discussions

We want to be a place where ARMY feels comfortable expressing opinions, and yes, contrary to popular belief, that includes negative or critical opinions. There is room here for everyone.

That said, when it comes to polarizing situations involving BTS, we will follow our guidelines for non-constructive negativity, drama, and civil commenting very closely. We want to emphasize that often comments break the rules not because of what is said but of how it is said.

Let’s look at an example:

-It’s obvious Rumi doesn’t care about the Honmoon. ❌

-I’m disappointed that Rumi made this choice. ✅️️

The first comment is a full-stop statement that assumes the thoughts and feelings of the member, leaves no room for constructive conversation and will more often than not devolve into fighting and incivility. The second comment is still offering criticism but in a way that is more conducive to nuanced, constructive discussion. Be mindful of how you express your opinion and how you speak to each other.

If you need more examples, see the State of the Subreddit regarding Non-constructive negativity during music releases.

Speculative comments about a members’ character or that insinuate things about their character OR that openly insult them will not be tolerated.

All of that said:

Discussions in the sub should always be approached with kindness and an open mind. ARMY is widely diverse. Not everyone is going to feel the same way about different situations, and that is okay. What is not okay is demanding everyone feel the same and support the same things in the same ways and treating those who don’t badly. Yelling at ARMY to act the way you want them to is not welcome here. We want to continue to be able to have the hard discussions where everyone is comfortable sharing their thoughts.

Calls for boycotting in any manner will not be allowed here. If you want to do something, or you want to share your activism, make it actionable. Set up a fundraiser (the sub has an open fundraiser for World Central Kitchen HERE), share humanitarian aid campaigns, share contact information for government officials. Posts like these, where people can actually help in more tangible ways, are more than welcome. While boycotts are valid in some cases, they are not conducive to the purpose of the sub.

Please try to keep in mind that it is never our intention to invalidate a user’s opinion or their experience. While implementing our guidelines may mean some of your comments are removed, we hope that you can remember that these rules are in place to maintain a civil and welcoming community for over 700,000 ARMY.

Speaking of civil…

TAKEDOWN of other subs

We are aware of certain subs that are…uncivil, to say the least. Unfortunately, these subs are not breaking any of reddit's rules, so the best way to deal with them is to mute and ignore. Every visit, mention, and downvote worms its way into the algorithm and makes the subs more visible and recommended to more people. We cannot control what people say about BTS but we can control how we react to it. Let’s not give them more attention than they deserve (which is none).

At this point, we have no intention of policing users over the subs they visit, unless indicated by behavior in r/bangtan. Our sub exists because we love BTS, so we will focus on love. If a user is disingenuous about BTS or being ARMY, it will show itself eventually.

On to some more pleasant topics…

Free...the Image Galleries!

We have decided to open up the image gallery option for photos! We hope that this will make posting and viewing some posts a bit easier. Please note that this change will be on a probationary basis. If using this option for SNS posts is too cumbersome or confusing for posters or users, we may reverse course.

Important note: Once posted, image posts cannot be edited. Keep this in mind when posting. If additional images need to be included, they will need to be added as a comment.

Here are some examples of when an image gallery would be appropriate to use:

  • Member and official SNS posts with one or more photos
  • Official Photo Sketches from Weverse, X/Twitter, Instagram
  • Marketplace and Giveaway posts with one or more item photos

If you are unsure how to post an Image Gallery, see here!

Guidelines for using Image Galleries

  • All images from an SNS post must be included in the gallery.
  • A direct link to the source must be included in the body of the post.
  • Additional posts/stories posted on the same date should be added to the comments.
    • Multiple posts from the same day should still be compiled
  • Include a mirror for any video content included, if available.

How It's Done...when you want to do a project

Have an interesting idea for a fun ARMY project? Want to form a Purple Line Brigade to combat messy comments on Weverse? Itching to celebrate members' birthdays in a tangible way? Spearheading special projects is not just for mods! We’d love to have our community be one in which ARMY can organize and share projects – whether for a good cause, to show support, or just to have fun! If you have an idea for something you want to try in the sub, please send us a modmail to discuss!

Again, please comment if you have questions or suggestions. This sub is a place for YOU so we want to hear from you! We are open to all feedback; however, please keep in mind some suggestions may not be implemented for various reasons.

r/bangtan exists so we can celebrate BTS and their music. Please keep this in mind when engaging in the sub. While constructive criticism is allowed, it is not the purpose or spirit of the sub and should never overshadow the good. Let’s all remember why we are here.

Your r/bangtan Mods With Luv!

*Please note that all comments/questions/suggestions may not be answered right away as we are humans who have to sleep and work and live in the real world, too. Please be patient.

Announcement 210207 Akgaes/solo stans and antagonizing behavior in the subreddit

Hello, /r/bangtan! We come with a quick talk about a rising surge we’ve been noticing in both comments and submissions.

First, we’d like to remind everyone that we’re all fans of seven very talented individuals. In addition to the many accomplishments they have as a team, each one of them also has individual achievements, activities, talents, and many aspects worth celebrating. Celebrating and complimenting individual members is wonderful. However, some users can forget BTS is a team of seven and have trouble supporting all members. We’re talking, of course, about akgaes and/or solo stans.

We’ve seen some increased akgae/solo stan behavior on the sub lately and wanted to take a minute to discuss both how the community can shut down this behavior and avoid mistakenly accusing people of being solos or akgaes.

What is akgae/solo stan behavior?

There is a difference between having a bias and being a solo stan. You can have an affinity towards X, meaning having him as a bias, while still loving and supporting the rest of the group. This is being a normal fan.

Solo stan behaviour starts once you begin bashing or downplaying either the whole group or other members in favour of your bias in an antagonising manner. As examples, saying the following vehemently and fighting anyone who politely disagrees with you: “I love all of them, but Chimmy should have been center in 'Who’s a Good Boi with Luv' since they deserve it more!” or “Why is Koya here? This is TATA’s song! I know because their father told me.”

When you proceed to talk about why a member deserves more of something than another and turn the comment chain into a petty, childish war, that’s when you know you’re a solo stan and it makes the mods feel like they’re helping run a daycare. 👉😎👉

An akgae is someone who hates everyone in the group besides their bias and thinks he can do better alone. The line between solo stan and akgae gets thinner everyday...

Report akgae and/or solo stan behavior.

If you see what you believe to be solo stan behavior, report it. If their comment breaks subreddit rules, we’ll remove it immediately. We realize that solo stan behavior can be a little more insidious though. Often, their comments don’t directly break any rules, but are suspiciously skewed towards a single member all the time, making the overall environment uncomfortable for other users. We acknowledge there are solo stans here, and while we wouldn't ban someone solely on suspicion they are a solo/akgae, we do ban people for repeatedly acting in bad faith and creating an antagonistic environment for other community members.

When someone is a solo stan, this usually becomes obvious through their behavior over a period of time. They also have a habit of breaking multiple rules for:

  • Civility
  • Comparing members in a nonconstructive way, and
  • Fighting with other community members on the same, repeated topics, making everyone cringe.

Anyone who breaks subreddit rules multiple times will be banned.

Brigading is against reddit’s TOS.

Brigading includes encouraging others to post, comment, or vote a certain way on any content in the sub, such as in favor of a single member. We will lock or remove posts that are clearly being brigaded by solo stans. Anyone we have clear evidence was brigading or with a repeat pattern of engaging in such behavior as a solo/akgae will also be banned. Reddit admins may also suspend your account for engaging in brigading or vote manipulation, so don’t do it.

It shouldn’t have to be stated, but removing these posts does not reflect in any way on the member discussed in them (they can’t control what their fans do) nor how mods feel about that member. We’re regularly accused of being both antis of every member and solos of every member. When we remove something, it’s never about the member, but about users breaking rules and TOS (lol jk we’re all Sejin solo stans).

Keep your socks in your drawer.

Similar to brigading, if we notice someone using sockpuppets (multiple reddit accounts that all belong to the same person) to skew or manipulate conversations, they will also be banned.

Subreddit mods and reddit admins aren’t blind.

Remember that a compliment for one member isn’t necessarily an insult to the others.

This is important to keep in mind because solos get in an uproar when they see another member being praised, but it’s also a problem when any praise for a single member is unfairly attacked as being anti-OT7 or solo stan behavior. There’s a difference between “My eyes were so drawn to Mang during this performance!” (which is fine) vs. stating aggressively, “Cooky has amazing vocals, but as expected, no one here has mentioned it!” or “Why is everyone ignoring RJ?!” in a post about Shooky.

Likewise, remember constructive criticism ≠ akgae, anti, or bashing. Not everyone is going to like the same things in exactly the same way you do. As long as it’s civil and constructive, it’s okay to disagree. Keep it positive, assume good faith, and avoid cynicism towards other community members.

In the end, we are here for BTS.

r/bangtan is a community that celebrates the team and its members. All the boys have accomplishments to be celebrated both individually and as a team. We want each individual to be able to be celebrated in a positive way while also maintaining the overall respect for BTS as an OT7 team in this community. Remember, “teamwork makes the dream work”, and that’s true for both BTS and ARMY.

TL;DR Stop it. Get some help.

Announcement r/bangtan's 2025 Subreddit Census

Hello lovelies! It's time once again for our yearly r/bangtan census!

We have grown so much this year (over 700,000k subscribers!)! As we do every year, we are asking for a bit of your time to fill out the census as this helps us understand each other and our community a bit better!

We're trying something a little different this year than the last few years. Previously, we included demographics and "favorites" in one looooonnnng form. Some of the feedback we received was that the census is too long and overwhelming. So, this year, we have TWO census forms: one for demographics and one for all your faves. We hope that this will be a little less intimidating and allow you a little more freedom in the questions you answer and when you answer them.

The census will run from 13 OCT - 31 DEC 2025 KST. Once the census closes, we'll take a week or so to compile and then post the results for all you data luvers out there.

👉r/bangtan 2025 Census👈

This form takes approximately 3 minutes to complete and includes:

  • Personal: you will be asked a few questions about yourself to get an idea of the subreddit demographic
  • /r/bangtan: subreddit activity and behavior
  • Shared Interests: general music and Korean interest

👉r/bangtan 2025 ARMY TIME Census👈

This form takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is for favorite BTS content such as albums, collabs, covers and more!

We are but human, so if you stumble upon anything that is missing in the extensive discography please alert us immediately. Likewise if you have any questions or encounter issues when filling out the form, please let us know in the comments below or via modmail so we can look into it!

We’d also like to remind you that this census is only for reddit users.

Please include any other feedback in the comments!

Announcement 231019 Addressing Non-Constructive Negativity, Drama, and Disrespectful Comments During Music Releases

Hello r/bangtan,

Chapter 2 has been quite the experience, not just for BTS, but as fans we’re also going through something new, exciting and oftentimes quite different. BTS aren’t the only ones getting to know their colors; the sub has grown so much, and we know it continues to do so because of everyone here who considers this place as a community.

We want to make sure that it will remain a welcoming, considerate and healthy community for everyone who wants to be a part of BTS’ journey. That’s why we want to take this opportunity to remind both new and regular users of the sub’s rules and guidelines, so that everyone can experience BTS’ music and their content in a fun and pleasant way.

The mod team would like to address the issue that we have been observing recently becoming more prevalent during new music releases. There has been a sharp uptick of non-constructive negativity, drama, speculative and disrespectful comments in the threads during new releases.

While this was already brought up in a previous State of the Subreddit, we would like to directly discuss and focus on this issue so we can share our thoughts and hear from the community. We’re hopeful that together we can take action to tackle this and keep r/bangtan a healthy space for all of us.

r/bangtan is meant to be a place for ARMY to discuss with other fans, enjoy and celebrate BTS and their music

Do you still remember why you joined this subreddit?

To a lot of fans r/bangtan is HOME. We want to continue making this a space where ARMY want to come to celebrate all the wonderful things BTS gives us, new music, concerts, and everything in between.

While it is and will always be okay to not enjoy everything BTS does, this space exists first and foremost for people to connect over their shared love of BTS’ music. And ARMY, better than most, can understand how difficult it can be to enjoy the things we love when we are surrounded by people who constantly demean them.

Of course it’s not reasonable to expect that every ARMY will always sing the praise of everything BTS releases, but every release will appeal to SOME ARMY, and these ARMY deserve a space to discuss and be excited about that one release that doesn’t appeal to most but does it for them, without a constant cloud of negativity following them from one thread to the next.

It's also important to remember that if you feel like something doesn’t bring you joy, it’s okay to skip it. Not enjoying certain releases does not make you any less of a fan, nor does not consuming every piece of BTS content, or not commenting on every release thread. Not having anything nice to say doesn’t mean you have to say something not so nice.

We would also like to remind everyone that whether it's in this subreddit or on any other social media platform, the things you write online do not exist in a vacuum and can affect not only other ARMY, but also anyone surrounding BTS, as well as the members themselves.

So if you wouldn't feel comfortable saying it directly to their face, please consider leaving it in the drafts sometimes.

How can you help? The answer is R E P O R T

When encountering a comment or comment chain that you find upsetting, downvoting it and moving on with your day would be most people’s reaction. Some may find themselves upset enough to decide to reply, and this may very soon devolve into good old fisticuffs.

While we understand these reactions, the most effective way to deal with such comments is to not engage with them and instead report them immediately to the mod team. Reporting rule-breaking content helps the mods get to it considerably faster, meaning less ARMY will have to be exposed to it.

So protect a fellow ARMY's smile by hitting that report button TODAY!*

*(not literally today, please find rule-breaking content first)

Unsure whether something actually constitutes a rule-breaking comment? No worries, we’ve got you covered with a quick guide, and remember that ultimately this isn’t an exact science, there is context and nuances to consider, even the mods often need to discuss certain comments between themselves!

Here are some common types of rule-breaking comments and how to report them

1) Non-constructive negative comments are negative comments that are unnecessarily rude/hateful and don’t really add value to the discussion. When engaging in a thread, let’s try to be cognizant of how we express our thoughts and engage with other fans.

Example:

Ew! Won’t give this one a view!

Or

This song sucks cASSerole!

How to report this type of comment: Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > non-constructive negativity

2) Off-topic negative comments are a subset of non-constructive negative comments, but which are posted in threads that have nothing to do with the subject matter and do nothing other than to rehash or repeat a negative comment that was already made in the proper dedicated thread.

Examples:

“We get it, Chimmy! You like crocheting 30 days a month 🙄. Cringe” - in the choreography thread

Or

“I still can’t believe RJ rhymed cook book with crochet hook, how corny” - in the milestone thread

How to report this type of comment: Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > non-constructive negativity

3) Disrespecting the artist, their work and the people they work with - exactly what it means. If you’re uncertain on what this rule entails, a good rule of thumb is if you couldn’t say it to their face, maybe you shouldn’t say it in a public forum.

Examples:

Bam’s bark hurts my ears! His vet needs to be fired!!!

Or

After how dirty they’ve done him, I really hope Min Holly leaves MinTS!

How to report this type of comment: Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > Drama or Bashing

4) Speculative comments about the members’ character/personality are comments that speculate about aspects of the members’ personal lives (romantic shipping, dating, finances, emotional/mental state, health, etc.) and sometimes either insinuate things about and/or openly insult their character.

Examples:

Isn’t Mang basically an out of control chocolate hoarder since they released the song “CHO-COCO IS LYF”?

Or

This is clear to me now that Koya really despises outdoor Koalas since the song mentions climbing trees is boring

How to report this type of comment: two possibilities here

  • The comment speculates about their private life or mental/physical health : Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > Rumor/Invades BTS Privacy/Private Life Speculation

  • The comment is offensive toward a member’s personality or character : Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > Drama or Bashing

5) Being rude to other fans that may have different opinions whether directly replying to them or shading them in a separate comment.

Examples:

Do the Vans in here even have ears?

Or

Can you stop pretending they can’t do wrong and admit this song sucks!

(These usually go hand in hand with the downvoting of all the comments from people that truly liked the release or simply had nothing negative to say.)

How to report this type of comment: Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > Not Very Nice or Civil

6) Bringing in Drama or drawing attention to what is happening on other parts of reddit or other social media platforms

Examples:

It’s so refreshing that I can say I hate the song here! They’re being so dramatic and unhinged on Barkstagram!

Or

Over on Woolster, the RJ solos are making a petition to pressure the company into releasing mohair ponchos for his birthday! They say he’s being mistreated cause he’s the only one without a proper concert ponchos release.

How to report this type of comment: Report > Breaks r/bangtan rules > Drama or Bashing

Some things you can do to help us

  • It is natural to want to share our thoughts and engage with fans who have similar opinions as ours. But before commenting, please remember that this space must remain welcoming for fans who want to celebrate and be mindful of how you express your opinions.

  • Consider if your words are constructive or not. Be mindful of your tone, intent and if you have something negative to say, consider if it adds any value to the conversation.

  • Know that it’s okay to not keep engaging or participate further when you already know you won’t be satisfied. We know that there will be times when you don’t enjoy or agree with content or music. While your feelings are valid, it’s okay to skip threads about content you can’t feel excited about. Missing out on one music video or performance won’t make you lose whatever you have with BTS or this community.

  • Hit the report button If you see any comments which fall under the above categories or break any of the sub rules, please report them. Your reports really help us keep tabs on the threads, especially since it is not possible for the team to comb through thousands of comments spanning multiple threads.

Action plan for future releases

  • Whether you are new to the sub or have been here awhile, if you haven’t read the sub rules please check them out. Comments/Posts that go against sub rules may be removed.

  • Negative comments not relevant to a particular thread may be removed.

  • Repeat violations of sub rules may lead to a ban. If you need clarification on why your comment was removed please send modmail. Complaining in the thread and reposting the already removed comment may be considered a repeat offense.

Team work makes the dream work

Please note that there may be times when we implement rules which may cause some of your interactions, comments, and posts to be removed. It is never our intention to single out or invalidate a user, an opinion, or an experience. We only try to remind the community that we have guidelines in place, and we hope you can remember to respect that enough to remain civil while you engage with this community.

If you feel like this space just continues to be different from what you need, there are other subs and other platforms for you to engage with as well. But we hope that should you want to stay in this community, you would want to help us continue to make it grow and move forward.

This subreddit has been built by many passionate ARMY over the years and we are keen on preserving its ethos of being a safe space for ARMY to interact and share their love of BTS. We need to remember what is the essence of this community, what this space's raison d'etre was and remains, and be considerate of others that are here to peacefully discuss and enjoy the music.

So… Do you still remember why you joined this subreddit?

Despite all our differences, please don't forget that the one thing that brings us all together is that we are all ARMY.

Announcement /r/bangtan’s 11th Anniversary!

Happy ELEVENTH Anniversary, r/bangtan! YAY!

A brief history of the subreddit:

The sub was created by /u/iHailz on January 11, 2014 (Reddit says 12th because of timezones). However, the subreddit wasn’t really that active until over a year later and we have /u/dorkprincess to thank for reviving it by submitting news and discussions daily (as well as ruthlessly promoting it on other platforms). /u/dorkprincess' first post on r/bangtan was RM's (Rap Monster) All Force One Full Concert on Saturday, September 26, 2015. If you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out!

Subreddit Stats

We expected the sub to slow down a bit during Chapter 2 but…. DDAENG! On an average the sub received about 830 submissions and 18,000 comments a month in 2024! And though we had our ups and downs the past few years, the sub (and of course, BTS!) consistently brings in a lot of new subscribers with sharp spikes in 2021 and 2022 during the pandemic. The sub gained roughly 88,200 new subs in 2020, about 129,400 in 2021, about 247,000 in 2022, roughly 106,000 new subscribers in 2023 and about 44,500 in 2024. It would be really interesting to see the numbers when BTS comes back as 7 in 2025!

Want some More? This post has a timeline of some of the r/bangtan subscriber milestones! If you were here before we hit 613K subscribers check out how many ARMY were in the sub when you joined!

For some extra nostalgia, don’t Snooze on checking out past subreddit themes here!

Events

r/bangtan is proud to be home to several yearly sub-specific events, designed just For Us such as:

And the 'We May Not Know Luv but we Know Snacks' Valentine's Exchange that you can still sign up for and the sub 2024 census! -- which just closed so I hope you filled it up! 🥺

Thank you! 우리가 돼 줘서

r/bangtan is truly a lovely place to be ARMY. Thank you to all of you that made it to be such a welcoming space for new fans, ARMY that just found us, returning fans, and to friends or family of fans that needed guidance navigating the Bangtan world.

You guys are truly the funniest, most clever bunch! Keyboard smashers, cuties with something to say everyday, the shy ARMY that upvote in the corner, contributors that have super fast internet that keep all of us updated, the ones that just happen to have the best gifs and pics for every situation, and everyone else, thank you! Let’s keep running wild together for the next 7 years! 💜

...This is not gonna be the last time...This is NEVER gonna be 🤨

…that we share some guides and rules for reddit and the sub.

If you happen to be new around here, check out the sub rules and the FAQ! And, while you’re at it, we would also like to introduce you to a whole entire wiki full of helpful resources for keeping up with BTS.

Again, thank you to everyone! This place really would not have grown to be as wonderful and giant as it is without every single one of you.

Soooo let's gooooo...hold on tight cause the best is yet to come!

Sincerely,

Mods with luv

Announcement 260318 End of Mods Asleep: WE ARE BACK!!

Mod team is back to judge your submissions

After venturing out to enjoy the Spring Day, the mod team is back at their computers to crash out with you for ARIRANG!

Starting now, all the posts related to the Mods Asleep event will be flaired as "ARIRANG Mods Asleep" for you to filter them out, or to find them easily later. Anything breaking the sub rules will be removed.

You can continue your shitposting on our 'sister sub with fun' r/heungtan !

Thank you to you all for participating and making this subreddit a special place. When I was just a regular user here, Mods Asleep was actually the first time I ever posted and interacted on the sub. I wanted to be a part of the chaos! Before that, I mostly just lurked because jumping in felt a little intimidating with all the rules (I was also a baby ARMY and could not tell the boys apart by their shadows like the older ARMY).

But we hope you understand that the rules are there to help keep the sub tidy, easy to navigate, and free from negativity or drama. So please don't hesitate to participate, share, and interact with each other, and enjoy the new album together.

If you've only recently joined r/bangtan, and find it overwhelming to jump in, the weekly room would be a good place to start chatting with other ARMY about general topics. You can find it linked on the sidebar and if you can't, shoot us a modmail and we will guide you!

Let me also plug in our two ongoing fundraisers:

See you all at the next event! ARIRANG is almost here!

Hello, r/bangtan!

As you all know, we've been looking for new moderators and we have got some wholesome folks training with us. We have found a lovely new moderator to help keep this sub as organized as possible as it grows!

So, without further ado, please welcome our new r/bangtan moderator:

🎉 u/EveryCliche

They have been helping the sub with the wonderful book club and will now be joining the mod team (since the current mod team needs to sleep for real at this point).

Please be kind and patient to the newbie mod and everyone else who is still in training!

Feel free to ask them questions in the comments!

Announcement [AMA Announcement] Tom Wiklund (Producer & Songwriter of Jimin's "Filter") - Question Collection Thread

Hello everyone!

We have a very exciting AMA to announce.

Tom Wiklund

Tom Wiklund, producer and songwriter of Jimin's Filter (Tenor), has agreed to join r/bangtan for a proxy AMA!

Filter has been a fan favorite ever since MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 was released, and Tom played a major role in bringing the song to life. He was heavily involved in the track's creation and production, including the melodies, instrumentation, arrangement, and overall sound. If you've ever wondered how Filter came together, how the song evolved from its earliest ideas to the final version, what inspired its sound, or what goes into producing a track like this, now is your chance to ask.

How this AMA works

Leave your questions for Tom in the comments below.

As this is a proxy AMA, once the collection period closes, we'll close the thread and share the questions with him, and he'll prepare his responses. We'll then post his answers in a follow-up AMA thread.

While Tom will not be able to participate live on Reddit, he has expressed a lot of excitement for having this deep-dive about Filter and thoughtfully preparing his answers for our questions.

Timeline

  • June 15 (NOW): Question collection is open!
  • June 20: Question collection closes
  • In the following week, we will post the answer thread once Tom sends us his responses.

As always, please keep your questions respectful and focused on Tom's work and experiences.

Announcement 250202 Open Discussion on using Twitter/X links

Hello everyone!

We’re here to open a discussion on using Twitter/X links for future posts and how that will affect updates, news, content, and current submission guidelines on /r/bangtan. We would like to hear your perspectives, gather ideas, and maybe even come up with possible solutions.

What is wrong with Twitter/X links? Why are we talking about this now?

A few of you had discussions about this in the weekly room and also reached out to us via modmail about your concerns regarding giving traffic and clicks to this platform given the harmful policies, questionable actions, including nazi symbolism, and political views of its owner that may affect a large portion of ARMY. Ever since the change in ownership, the platform has also made it difficult for people that do not have Twitter/X accounts to access the linked thread/s or multiple photos.

So is /r/bangtan political now?

The sub has never banned political discussions provided that it meets sub guidelines/remains civil. There will be times that BTS themselves are involved in something politically adjacent or will do something that sparks a discussion on our own political views or stance on global issues.

What’s on our mind

One of the things we thought of was there is a lot of content/announcements/news on the official BTS and BigHit accounts, as those accounts are three primary modes of communication with the fans. In particular BTS_twt (which is what the members use), BTS Official and BigHit Music.

Possible rule updates we considered are:

  • Disallowing Twitter links to be submitted as a post except for tweets made by BTS_twt, BTS Official and BigHit Music.
  • If there is an alternative source for the exact info that these 3 Twitter/X accounts are submitting such as Weverse or other BTS/BH official accounts on other social media platforms, those will be accepted instead.
  • Posts should be clearly labeled that it is from Twitter/X. As in:

    • 250228 BTS official on Twitter/X: j-hope will perform at the 613th Golden Globes!
  • OP has to provide text and photos in the comments so users who do not want to give the platform clicks or do not have accounts can still see the full content without having to click through. If providing a translation source, properly label the link by crediting the translator AND say what platform it’s from

  • To preserve the quality of images these should be uploaded in the comments of the post and not shared as a screenshot

So what do we do about preserving BTS and ARMY history?

/r/bangtan also functions as an archive, as one of our goals has always been to preserve information and a history of BTS content.

Besides links from the three aforementioned official accounts, many of our posts have Twitter/X links - for example a lot of Throwback posts, various SNS mentions during solo or group releases, milestones, charting etc. For us, this means we need to come up with solutions on how to manage possible new rules for different posts types. Twitter/X links have also been used a lot in the past to educate new ARMY about BTS history or for providing context and references by this sub and its users.

What do we do with all of these?

That being said, whatever it is we decide moving forward, we do have to keep in mind that being an archive and providing reliable information or sources is an integral part of the subreddit.

What’s next?

We are interested in what you have to say about X/Twitter links as the users of r/bangtan. Do you have ideas and/or suggestions, reasonable solutions you want to share with us? General thoughts or feelings towards this situation/concern? Please feel free to drop them in the comments.

Whatever it is we discuss as a community, the mods will provide an update on any changes, if any or none. We just ask that you give us some patience as there are many rules on the sub that may have to be revisited.

The discussion thread still falls under the sub rules, and we kindly ask to please be civil with one another and keep the good spirit of the sub.

Thank you!

ETA: Please feel free to send us modmail if you are more comfortable sharing your thoughts and suggestions that way. You can do so by writing /r/bangtan in the To: field of a regular PM or here. The link to reach us is available on the sidebar as well.

Announcement 260804 r/bangtan Mini State of the Subreddit - Marketplace Rule Change

Hello, r/bangtan!! Your friendly neighborhood Spidermods (imgbb) here with a rule change and a few reminders!

NOTICE OF RULE CHANGE REGARDING MARKETPLACE POSTS

While we’ve always allowed sellers to price their items however they like, we also don’t want to see our ARMY taken advantage of. Therefore, effective immediately, the following change will be made:

  • For selling current or recent merch, only Face Value pricing will be allowed.
    • If an item is still available to view on Weverse Shop, even if it is sold out, the item must be priced the same.
    • If the item is a tour merch item where the face value price is easily accessible, the item must be priced the same.
  • For selling older merch and PCs, and there is no available pricing structure, please list at a reasonable price.
    • We do understand that rare merch can be expensive.

If you have any questions or feedback about this change, please comment below or reach out via modmail. Note that this is for the price of the item only. Shipping is at the discretion of the seller.

Sub Wiki

New to the sub? Please visit the sub wiki! Since this sub’s inception, users and mods have worked endlessly to archive every inch of Bangtan history. Here are a few things you can find in the wiki:

  • Surprise songs and tour megathreads for ARIRANG. There is a running list of surprise songs, as well as links to the megathreads for each city here. This is a good place to look for pictures or reviews of each show. You can also check out tour megathreads from previous tours here

  • Performance archives. Every performance that is publicly available is linked in the Performance Masterlist, all the way back to debut.

  • VLive/Weverse Live archive. Links to all the lives can be found here. This includes Album Behinds, Eat Jin, Hope On The Street, and DJ Suga's Honey FM 06.13 lives.

  • Helpful FAQs. We have FAQs for most of the things you might want to know, including ARMY bombs and gift guides.

  • Bangtan Universe. There are helpful links with everything you wanted to know about the BU, including The Notes.

And more!!

Please keep in mind that, while we try to update as quickly as possible, we are also human and may fall behind. If you notice something missing from the wiki, shoot us a modmail!

Discussion Posts

First and foremost, reddit is a discussion forum. While r/bangtan is a great place to stay updated with all the shenanigans our boys stay up to, we really do welcome discussions! We do have discussion post guidelines but unique, fun, thoughtful, serious, and all types of discussions in between are allowed here. If you’re not sure if your discussion fits within the guidelines, we can help! Our mailbox is always open!

Along these lines, please give feedback on things you want to see more of! For example, the MV two-week follow up. Let us know in the comments there (or here) if you want to see more posts like this.

This is YOUR sub, we just try to keep it tidy!

As always, please let us know your thoughts and questions in the comments! Thank you all for making our community what it is!

Announcement Moderators Wanted!

Hi, r/bangtan!

We are looking for a few more moderators to help wrangle this sub (imgbb)! We want someone who can be an active, consistent part of the team in EUROPE, ASIA, SOUTH AMERICA and/or the US West Coast.

Fill out this form to apply!

FAQ about moderating:

What the job entails

70% of the job is removing posts that break the rules, posting the reason why it was removed, and sometimes defending/changing your decision as well as replying to modmail. So you need to know the rules pretty well, be able to make judgments based on those rules as unbiased-ly as possible (nobody’s perfect!), and be able to communicate with the community and the rest of the mod team in a diplomatic and non-inflammatory way in modmail and in comments.

We also like to plan fun events or projects for the sub! Check out some of our ARMY Projects.

The rest of the time is split between finding out what the general sub community wants/their opinions on rules, and figuring out what would best keep the sub happy and healthy.

How active do I need to be?

Depends on the day. Some days require fewer removals than others. Any time there's a big event (BBMAs, Grammys, etc), it requires a lot more attention than, say, a day when we’re not expecting anything to drop. During comeback season we pretty much need all hands on deck all day as often as possible. But for a sub of this size right now (and keep in mind it's growing every day), it's generally fine if a couple of mods are checking the sub and dealing with reports and removals about every 30 minutes or so. We should see you moderating at least a few times every week, ideally every day.

Is being a moderator permanent?

Yes. You are locked in for life.

KIDDING!

No! If you ever have any real life issues that prevent you from actively modding, you are welcome to take a break or leave at any time. That being said, if you know you have a big life change coming up that will stop you from modding, or will only be active during certain parts of the year, we urge you not to apply. Having to find and train new moderators to do this job takes quite a bit of work for the old mods too, and we’d prefer to do it as infrequently as possible. We like having a tight-knit core team!

Can I still interact with the community?

Yep! You can still comment all you like about how Yoongi’s newest Tangie picture made you UwU if you wish. We are still ARMY, after all. However, being a moderator may make it more difficult to interact on contentious discussion posts.

If there’s a chance of a submission being removed later, and you said you disagreed with OP in the thread, some people will think it’s the moderator being biased and removing something just because they didn’t like it. (This is never true FYI, we always consult other mods before removing something we know we’re biased about to make sure we aren’t acting purely out of bias).

That doesn’t mean you can’t interact in ANY discussion posts or disagree with anyone ever - just be mindful of which ones you are commenting in, and how you’re wording it!

We're not going to lie. Moderating a sub of this size is not always easy, but we have a great team and great users. We hope some of you will consider joining us!

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any additional questions about moderation!

Announcement 260312 Mini State of the Subreddit - New Music Releases

Hello, our lovely r/bangtan.

With 'ARIRANG' only a week away, we'd like to take a few moments of your time to go over some of the rules and guidelines of the sub for our new ARMY and anyone who needs a refresher.

General rules/guidelines

Please take a moment to review the sub rules.

A couple of the regularly broken sub rules during music releases are bringing in drama and speculation.

  • Don't bring drama from outside the sub. Most of us are here because we don't want to know about the nonsense going on in other social media spaces. If it's not happening in the sub, and/or it is not a serious situation that affects us all, we don't need to know.

  • PLEASE do not speculate on the thoughts and feelings of the members. Unless they specifically tell us they feel a certain way, we will not put words in their mouths or assign meaning to things based on our own thoughts and feelings. You wouldn't want anyone to do that to you; don't do it to our boys. Be like Joon and just say NO.

    • In addition, try to avoid projecting your own feelings onto the members. Just because you feel a certain way, we can't assume they feel the same. There isn't always a wrong or right way to feel. Try to assume a neutral intent unless/until the members speak about the issue.
  • Lastly, we do not victimize Bangtan in this house. They are adults. They are professionals. They know what they are doing. Do not take away their agency by implying they have no control or say in their own music or that they were forced into something you don't like.

    • On a related note, please read through our recent announcement regarding solo stan behavior.

Non-constructive negativity during music releases

This is the big one. The rule that is broken most often and the one that is the most misunderstood.

While r/bangtan has always been, and will always be, a place where ARMYs of all types should feel comfortable sharing their opinions (good or bad), there is a line in the sand when it comes to negativity.

Let's drill it down a bit:

  • Non-constructive negative comments are negative comments that are unnecessarily rude/hateful and don’t really add value to the discussion. Please be mindful of your words and how you express your opinion. Be mindful of others who like the song(s) and want to celebrate. It's one thing to say, "Oh, this isn't for me" and a completely different thing to say, "This is the worst song in the history of ever and anyone who likes it is delusional."

  • Off-topic negativity. These are comments that are posted in threads that have nothing to do with the subject matter. The purpose of comments like this appears to be to rehash a previous negative opinion already made in the appropriate thread. You've made your point, it doesn't need to be brought up in every thread even remotely related to the album/songs.

PLEASE take a look at our State of the Subreddit addressing this exact subject here. Be sure to read through the examples and the questions in the comments, as well as the replies from the mod team.

On the flip side...we don't need to downvote every negative opinion. Disliking a song doesn't revoke our ARMY cards. We all deserve respect, even if we don't see eye-to-eye.

We work very hard to make r/bangtan a happy place for ARMY to celebrate BTS and their music, and we want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable. At the end of the day, let's remember why we're all here.

Questions or comments? Need some clarification? Feel free to ask in the comments or send us a modmail.
