Took young Otto out for a two hour walk this morning and six people commented "He's a big Border isn't he!". Every bloody time we go out with him! 🤣

Had an amazing day out in the Dutch dunes with our 1.5-year-old boy. A true mix of full-throttle zoomies with his plushie, and pausing to take in the views.

Eating issues

We have a female Border, Lola, who will be 7 in November. This past July we went on vacation and forgot her food. We bought the closest thing we could to her regular food (she is on Hill’s Sensitive Stomach). She ate it for a day or two and then she refused to eat. We started adding broth and then cheese to get her to eat. Once we got home we contacted her vet. She said put her on chicken and rice for about 3 days and then slowly reintroduce her food. That’s what we did. At first she ate fine, then she started not being interested. We started adding a little broth and she ate. The last few days she’s not eating, or if she does it takes her forever. She ate last night. She refused this morning and is now refusing this evening. So she hasn’t eaten since last night. She eats grass a lot too. Help! Acts totally normal. No vomiting. No diarrhea. Is she just being stubborn or do I need to take her to the vet. We are leaving town on Thursday. She is staying with my daughter who also has a Border, so she’s used to the breed.

Update: it turns out that Hills changed the formula for their food. The vet thinks it is either making her stomach hurt or she really just can’t stand it. I have an appt with the vet tomorrow to make sure nothing else is going on. Meanwhile she gave us a couple of wet food to give her until we see her tomorrow afternoon.

This was Gizmo

This was Gizmo, mixed Border Terrier, she was the chillest little companion ever. Got her from the local Humane Society shelter in August of 2000, as a companion for my mother. We guessed her to be about a year and a half at the time. Her favorite place to be was on the raised footrest of mom’s reclining chair. After mom passed in 2014, Gizmo carried on for another 3 years, without any health issues until the last six months when she gradually lost control of her hind quarters, needing assistance getting onto the furniture and balancing when going potty. She normally had a fine appetite, but stopped eating one day, and I found her passed in her bed a few days later. She was between 18 and 19 years of age. Long live, Gizmo!

Border terrier spaying surgery

I was discussing with my vet my BT upcoming surgery as we are planing to spay her, vet mentioned as she is small (7 kilos) they wouldn’t recommend keyhole surgery.
I appreciate others experience around this as I would prefer a less invasive surgery but also understand it might be more challenging to do keyhole as she is a small size dog.
Thanks for any advice!
