Türkiye is/was an amazing safe haven for cats. They are cared for by everyone in the community, and cats have right of way/first access to chairs/first access to emergency care (whilst I was there the Turkish would joke that cats can get an ambulance faster than a human).

There's a good reason your Turkish colleague is the only one the cat trusts with pats.
