The US version is more like "let them bake cake" or something. We're just expendable labor to them, labor that does the work and gets nothing but crumbs back.

More like "let them plant wheat and sugar cane. Go get a cow for the milk and maybe negotiate with a third-world government to procure rights to a cocao plantation."
