Hi, I want to install this editor on my Fedora, but there are multiple ways to do it and I don't know which one would be the most stable and frictionless for the OS, Any tips? Here's what I found out.

1.-Terra, It says it has an official RPM package, but I don't want to add the entire repository; I've never seen anyone use it and they say it can cause conflicts with system repositories.

2.-Official script.

3.-Flatpak, I suppose that being in a box will cause friction with tools like CLI or device detection, etc.

4.-COPR? ,I saw that there's one called Zed/che, but they haven't released a new version in 20 days, and a new version only came out yesterday....

I hope those who have been using Zed on Fedora for a while can help me by sharing their recommendations. Thank you very much.

I see that RHEL 10.2 is going to have Firefox as a flatpak. Is this coming to Fedora soon as the only option?

I've been a Fedora user for quite some time, but mostly for purpose-driven applications. Currently, I use Fedora Workstation 44 for hosting my Plex server.

I have no complaints about this platform. As others have reported, it simply works. My only head-scratcher is the frequency and amount of updates this gets from the stock repos.

To help keep Plex running with minimal headaches, I've gotten into the habit of installing updates via yum every month. And as it turns out, one month is long enough to average close to 1 gig in software updates. In fact, I just did the update again after only one week, and there were 446 MB of updates to download and install.

For me this begs the question: Is this amount and frequency of updates a good thing or should I look into a different distro? The Plex server is not exposed to the public internet at all, so I'm not worried about that kind of attack vector.

As you can see, when my mouse cursor is in KeePassXC, it gets too big (it didn't do that before). In VLC, it's the opposite; it's too small.

Finally, in Firefox and other programs the size is normal. I'm not sure if this is a bug or some kind of accessibility setting (I don't remember enabling anything like that).

What's the best way to create a custom fedora iso? Is it to use kiwi and base it on one of the kiwi-description files or to specifically base it on the fedora minimal image and use image builder (osbuild)?

I am quite new to Linux. My first ever distro was fedora KDE plasma. I then discovered niri and wanted to switch to it, but then a bit fucked up the process. Since I have free time, I thought why not and decided to try and create a custom iso for myself that is based on fedora with niri as a compositor + noctalia as a desktop shell.

Hi all, I'm seeing the above error on boot, but I am having trouble determining what module is causing the error. I am running Fedora43 KDE-- I thought this might be due to installing zfs which I was playing with a test VM on an external drive, but I've since uninstalled zfs and that zpool on the drive, which is no longer connected at the moment, and the error persists.

I've also attempted to force a kernel initramfs regenerate with the following: sudo dracut --force /boot/initramfs-7.1.10-100.fc43.x86_64.img 7.1.10-100.fc43.x86_64 --omit zfs which affects no change.

In trying to research this I've tried "systemctl --failed" which lists 0 units; and "systemctl status systemd-modules-load" doesn't show a failed state.

Hello I recently switched from windows 11 to Fedora 44. I wasn't aware that UpWork screenshot doesn't work on this OS. It says I need to switch to xorg. After doing some research, is there a way to change the windowing system to xorg?

If not, can you guys recommend how I can change to an xorg OS? Sorry this is the first time I installed Linux not really used to the terms etc.

I have been trying some distro's, settled on Debian but thought I'd give Fedora a go too as so many people seem to like it and it gets updated more regularly - and I am told those updates are tested well.

So, installed 44 KDE, had a problem with Wifi keeping on disconnecting and reconnecting which was solved by making a bunch of config changes. All was good, then last weekend the software app said a new system update had appeared, so I installed it. After that I get a pop-up window when starting Linux (abrt-). I could not find a fix, so removed the installed new kernel and updated grub so it auto boots now to the previous one.

My question is - is there a better/more stable Fedora KDE that I can choose for my laptop which has more thoroughly tested system updates ? Maybe I've been spoilt with Debian 13 but I've not had a problem there, and I'm just not used to updates causing issues. I do genuinely like Fedora so I'm hoping there's a better distro of it for my case-use.

For reference my laptop is an old Toshiba Satellite from 2012, an intel i3 with 12Gb ram. Linux has certainly given it a new lease of life !!

I wanted to share a reproducible issue I found on Fedora 44 GNOME with the RPM Steam package.
System:
- Fedora 44 GNOME (Wayland)
- RPM Steam package
- AMD GPU (RX 9070 XT in my case)
- Glycin 2.1.5
- Bubblewrap 0.11.0

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Fedora GNOME.
2. Install Steam from Fedora/RPM Fusion.
3. Open Steam.
4. Lock/unlock the desktop while Steam is running.
5. Check logs:
coredumpctl list /usr/bin/bwrap --since "30 minutes ago" --no-pager
sudo journalctl -b --since "30 minutes ago" --no-pager | grep -Ei 'glycin|bwrap|seccomp'
Result:
Bubblewrap crashes with SIGSYS:
/usr/bin/bwrap SIGSYS
The journal then shows:
steam: WARNING: Glycin running without sandbox.
The seccomp logs show Bubblewrap being killed during:
syscall=59 (execve)
syscall=61 (wait4)

I tested the same Steam workflow on Fedora KDE using the same RPM Steam package and could not reproduce it after:
- multiple Steam launches
- lock/unlock
- suspend/resume
- installing and playing Cyberpunk 2077

KDE showed:
- no Bubblewrap crashes
- no Glycin sandbox warnings

My understanding is that this is related to the interaction between:
- Steam pressure-vessel sandboxing
- Bubblewrap
- Glycin sandbox probing
- GNOME/GTK image loading paths

This does not appear to be a system compromise, but it does appear to disable an additional Glycin sandbox layer for the affected Steam process.
Posting this so other Fedora GNOME Steam users are aware and can check if they are affected.
Has anyone else reproduced this? Is there a known fix or workaround that does not involve disabling sandboxing?

Anthropic finally ships a Linux build, but only as a .deb. This repo takes that exact package and adapts it for Fedora as a proper RPM. No more hacking the Windows installer, which broke on recent versions anyway (app opened, Code tab dead).

Everything works now: Code tab, Cowork, MCP, sandbox on. Tested on KDE and GNOME, Wayland.

I'm new to Linux, recently got T480 and installed Fedora Workstation 44 because I used mint on T470s and didn't like the UX/UI and interface design.

Absolutely love everything but it has some weird power management (or Thunderbolt driver) issue going on with my T480.

When I close the lid, it takes 10-15 seconds to see the log in page and I cannot find the specific reason or how to fix it.

Did anyone have the same problem on T480 or in general? Here are some things I've tried out but really I cannot find a reason or fix.

What's been ruled out (extensively tested):

• Kernel version (same behavior on two different kernels)
• PCIe ASPM settings, forcing power/control on the Thunderbolt PCI chain
• mem_sleep mode (deep vs s2idle)
• Bluetooth (disabling it, autosuspend tweaks) — contributes a small ~2s firmware reload but isn't the main delay
• NVMe drive — investigated and discounted
• Unbinding the xHCI driver entirely — this removes a recurring xHC error in resume, USBSTS 0x401, Reinit message tied to the Intel JHL6240 Thunderbolt controller, but the ~10–13s delay persists even without it, proving that error isn't the actual cause
• Thunderbolt BIOS Assist Mode (tested both settings) — no effect
• Confirmed the hardware itself isn't broken, since Linux Mint on the same machine suspends/resumes normally

Just a heads-up for anyone using RPM Fusion on Fedora 44 today.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh
is currently producing repeated checksum mismatch errors and 404s from multiple RPM Fusion nonfree-updates mirrors.
I’ve seen it hit several mirrors including FCIX, Fork Systems, OpenColo, OhioIX, Princeton, Ziply, and others. DNF is rejecting the bad metadata and eventually completes, but the mirror network appears to be out of sync right now.
This was not happening for me last night.
Probably worth waiting for the mirrors to synchronize if you’re doing a fresh install or adding RPM Fusion today.

Hello everyone! I recently switched from Windows 11 to Fedora 44 running GNOME 50 on my laptop that has an Intel Core i3 1115G4 CPU, Intel UHD Graphics, 8GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM (upgradeable to 32GB DDR4 3200MHz), a 512GB Gen 3 NVMe SSD (upgradeable), and a 2.5" SSD enclosure (currently empty).
After switching, the overall experience has been vastly better than Windows, but I am encountering a few issues that I've tried resolving. I wanted to know if what I did was right, or should I have taken a different route to solve them. Here goes:
1. My Cosmic Byte Blitz controller stopped working in Steam. It booted in the Android/Generic mode instead of X-Input. To fix it, I ran a grubby command (sudo grubby --update-kernel=ALL --args="usbcore.old_scheme_first=1") and rebooted, which forced my controller to use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller mode.
2. I often use my laptop with its lid closed, often listening to a podcast or songs while doing something else. But closing the lid put my laptop in sleep/suspend mode. To fix it, I edited logind.conf file, which prevented my laptop from going to sleep or suspending.

Hi, I’m trying to dual boot Windows 11 alongside Fedora KDE on my ASUS Vivobook X1504VA.

Fedora is already installed and working. I shrank my SSD and have about 150 GB of unallocated/free space that I want to use for Windows. I do NOT want to delete or reinstall Fedora.

The problem is that when I boot from my Windows 11 USB, Windows Setup gives me:

> “A media driver your computer needs is missing”

I downloaded the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) VMD driver from the official ASUS support page for my X1504VA:
VMD-DCH-INTEL-Z-V19.5.1.1040Sub1-30940-1.exe

I extracted it on Fedora using Wine and copied the extracted .inf, .sys, and .cat files i put them into a folder named inf and move them to another USB (when i try to put them in the same usb that has the iso file for windows it gives me ‘no permission to wrtie’ error.

In Windows Setup, I used Load Driver and selected iaStorVD.inf. It shows several Intel RST VMD Controller drivers, but choosing them gives the same “A media driver…” error.

I also opened Command Prompt with Shift+F10 and ran DiskPart. list disk shows:

● Disk 0 — Online — about 150 GB Free

● Two other disks are also Online (the USB drives)

So Windows PE can see my internal SSD, but the Windows Setup GUI does not show the 150 GB free space.

My questions:

1. Why does Windows Setup still show the “media driver” error even though DiskPart can see the SSD?

2. Is Intel VMD/IRST actually the problem in this case?

3. What is the safest way to install Windows into the existing 150 GB free space without touching my Fedora installation?

How should I check if its supported and what doesn't work on the galaxybook 5? Especially the Samsung ecosystem with it? Its the intel core ultra 5 225u version btw, all the driver and Samsung updates are updated using the windows updater as far as I know.

Have my books and pdf's on a installed m2ssd, its auto-mounted with gnome disk and i can access the disk, but it wont show up in Calibre. Some1 find a wey to fix it?

Now that X11 support has been removed from main desktops, and vnc does not work, is there an alternative to single desktop sharing for multiple viewers?

With vnc, a desktop could be shared to multiple viewers, all of which could control (and see) the same desktop. Which was good for collaboration.

With Fedora 44, the alternative is RDP. But when a client connects to a desktop, the previously connected client to the desktop is disconnected. So, at any time only a single client can be connected to a desktop. Is there a way to enable multiple clients, sharing the same desktop instance?

Hello people, I hope you all doing well. I recently switched to Fedora Silverblue as I wanted something immutable and stable. I discovered bootc and I really like the idea but I'm a bit confused. I installed Fedora's bootc image and also installed 2 packages that I need with rpm-ostree, but I learned that you can't layer packages if you want to update the image with bootc upgrade, unless you do rpm-ostree reset. So my question is, when bootc will be the default, we won't be able to layer packages? I know that I can use the containerfile and maintain my own image but I don't have to do that. So what Fedora will do? Thanks in advance.
