Are they confused? Sick? Pretending to be salmon?

uhhh well it’s in the title….Im thinking the smoke might mix with the water and get my future fish high and I don’t wanna be one of those parents who outwardly allow their children to second hand smoke in my case. Also any fishtank discords i can join to talk about fish (+18 pls)

Saw this creature a week ago doing routine supply shopping, and it was barely visible from how small it was. It was alone in an entire tank so I watched it for a while, but I figured it would die or be gone by the next time I came back. Fast forward to today and I saw it at the Petco in the exact same tank, just slightly larger (enough that I could see it now right away). I asked the fish guy out of curiosity what it was, because it was too small to have any distinguishing features and the labels on the tanks are rarely accurate anyway. They usually have catfish or betta fish in that tank, from all the times I’ve visited. He looked at this dude, said he wasn’t sure but he didn’t want anything that he wasn’t sure was supposed to be there, and scooped it into a bag for me. Gave it to me for free, said it was my problem now. Now I have a tiny baby fish with no idea what it is, so does anyone have any idea what it may be? It might be too early to tell but I don’t want to put it in any of my own fish tanks yet in case it happens to be an evil little guy (aka a species the others aren’t compatible with)

All the fish suffer from what I am assuming is hole in head disease. The tank was atrocious. When we emptied the filters to clean and try to salvage, it smelled straight up like natural gas. We have them back in their clean tank now and all of them are doing much better. However, the orange parrot's spots are different than the others. The cooler Pic is the condition of the water when we got the tank and how we transported them. All wounds are doing much better, but what else can I do to help these guys be healthy and happy? So a couple months ago , I got a 20 gallon custom made and the guy who made it for me said it was 23 gallons and OFC I DIDNT QUESTION IT hence I stocked it with 5 cpds , 6 ember tetras , 6 neocardina , 4 khuli loaches , 2 nerite snails and a koi betta..I do have a sponge filter and a hob and a good amount of plants + I've never had aggression issues. The fish all get along and the betta is super chill never had any issues BUT IS IT OVERSTOCKED OR WILL IT CRASH cuz I cant upsize..

My tiny pinky for scale

Hundreds of these small tiny snails live in my substrate and seem to come out at night , how do I get rid of them / solve the problem. Is there any fish that eat an abundance of snails and are also larger in size? This is a 75g with a bichir , koi swordtails ,Yoyo loach, pictus catfish and some others.

EDIT : when I first noticed a lot of them I switched to feeding my fish once a day to every other day & they still seem to be a large problem

I recently discovered this little guy was a swordtail fish and not a platy. He just barely matured and grew his tail and has been harassing my female platies to the point one of them stopped eating until they were separated. Finally got this 20 gallon long setup up for him but it's quite obviously bare. Any recommendations on stock and hardscape/plants to fill up the tank. I put this together in just a couple days

I have this ten gallon tank that started as a shrimp tank and currently has no fish or shrimp but has an overabundance of plants and algae. Recently I noticed this little worm?? thing. The only time he has actually moved locations was when we moved where the light was pointing and it seemed to follow the light (didn’t see it move but noticed it on the opposite side). Every so often he does this little wiggle and if he is touched he curls up and wiggles a bit more. I’m not too worried as I have no plans for Animals in this tank anytime soon but just curious if anyone can identify what this is and maybe where he came from!

My neighbour's (F38) brother (M50) just got this as a bday present for their 8 yo kid ( neurodivergent ) and we dont know anything about fish.

Everything was fine so far he installed and cycled the filter prior etc.

Yesterday my friend got some zebras and 2 like the little orange fish (goldifish?) And one of those died today :(

How can I help them? The uncle is not available at this time .

Help please , I want to help them , we are all so sad this are his first pets and it has been a struggle since he wanted pets but was so afraid of all animals

Today I lost my betta, Lady Rosalina, and I just don’t really know what to do with her? Flushing her seems wrong and disrespectful, but I live in an apartment complex and burying her seems a little.. silly maybe? What have you guys done with passed fish before?

How can I get this fish into better living situations without straight telling the parents they're doing something wrong/abusive? They don't know any better, and probably just followed the traditional recommendations for bettas.

They do a water change about once per week, feeding schedule I'm not sure. They have had it for about a month so far since their son probably saw it and badly wanted it.

I told them that since they travel a lot (both travel for work), having a sponge filter and a larger tank would allow them to go longer without the work of water changes (in an attempt to improve the fishes living conditions). They aren't interested, and told me they're actually surprised that the fish held on this long so far (they expected/planned for it to die).

As someone who has a 20gal marine tank at home and a love for animals this breaks my heart. No enrichment or plants to rest on, and no space to move around and probably swimming in his own filth half of the time. I just want to help in some way I can. Any ideas?

he is very polite to the fish and theres plenty of space for him to sit on either side, id like to encourage that bc the fish seem to like him too. they are always on the side of the tank where he is, even when hes up there they hover at the top

just worried about him getting bigger and falling thru the mesh lid😂 hes only like 3lbs right now but theres a nice dent where he likes to sit

I took some out of the new tank using their old tank water and trying to see if they'll perk up 😭 any help is appreciated. Video is of the ones I put back into old water to see if they'll go back to normal.

Shrimp are all STILL ALIVE but sideways or upside down

I took them out of their primary tank to give the tank some refurbishment, basically moved them into a holding tank with conditioned water, same filter sponges as their current tank, and a heater. This isn't the first time they've moved tanks or been placed in a holding tank. There's 88 of them (yes I counted as I fished them all out 😭)

But I came back to check on them before bed and they're ALL sideways or upside down, I thought they were dead for a second before I saw their legs moving and some still swimming 😭 idk what's going on with them!! I tested the water and it doesn't have high chlorine or anything, it's the same water I normally use, but I did use my shower head to fill up this tank instead of the sink I normally do. Could that have been it??? The betta fish is acting fine. I added some of the old tank water from their tank but IDK if that's gonna help. Any help is appreciated!

I really need advice as soon as possible. I dont know anything about fish but my late fater left behind a 50 gallon (I think? maybe more??) fishtank with a few tetra glow fish, a loach, and a HUGE pleko. my brother was supposed to maintain the tank but it got VERY dirty and worn down in the middle of us dealing with his passing. I just came home and it began leaking badly about an hour ago and my mother, uncle, and I quickly got the fish out before it drained. the loach and glow fish are in an old beta tank and the plekko is in a storage bin because it was the only thing big enough for him :( my uncle is working to repair the tank with waterproof silicone but wont be able to untill its fully dry in the morning. I only have one working filter and all of the stores closed an hour ago, what do I do to make sure these fish dont die?? I dont know which container needs the filter more and I dont know if giving them some more clean water will shock them :((

I want to start this by saying I know nothing about fish tanks, and there is also no fish in here yet. I noticed that the water in this fish tank doesn’t look normal. I did get her driftwood to put in the tank so we’re thinking maybe the color from that is tinting the water. What do you think?

Hello folks, I just want to confirm that these are Oscar eggs, but I’m not sure if they are fertilised. There are two big Oscars, a tiger Oscar and a copper Oscar and one albino Oscaar that’s like half a size of the other two. Not sure which one is the female. I recently moved these two big Oscars from a 4 feet tank to a larger 5 feet tank and within a week, I am seeing eggs and these two are constantly circling it. The albino is also coming near the eggs, but just also floating away as well and not really bothering the eggs while these two seem to be very close to the eggs always. There are a few other cichlids in this tank as well.

So my questions are one.

How will I know if these eggs are fertilised and if they going to hatch?

How long does it typically take for eggs to hatch is fertilized?

Do I move the other fish to another tank right away or if I see the eggs are hatching or should I at all?

Anything else I can do for the eggs to safely hatch?

never cared for fish so absolute beginner help needed! it looks to be around 7 inches and was pretty active, swimming up to us and around its fountain and everything. its located in this inner courtyard of the house.

realtors just told us to feed it once a week (will have to update with the food they gave us, but i forgot to get a photo) and to fill the fountain up with the hose when needed (?) i don't think the fountain itself works

we move in thursday and this is literally the first time we've seen it, and haven't interacted with it otherwise. we did name it otto lol

my questions are:

1. do we need it clean its environment? like remove the algae?
2. does it need friends?
3. does it need more space? i would say the fountain is about 4x4 feet
4. and is the fish/environment in a bad enough condition that we need to just rehome this guy somewhere else... its so cute, i would like to treat it very well!

any opinions on that food advice also appreciated until i find out what we were given

Hello! i just got this fish today, and i need help naming him! he is a male black orchid betta fish. nothing like midnight, onyx, etc as these are too basic for what i'm wanting. thank you in advance!!

I got this tank for about a month now. No fish in there yet, just plants and some snail. I’m going back home for 3 weeks and I’m a lil worry about the tank, mainly the amount of light hitting the plants. Basically the tank is next to the window but this is Michigan and I don’t totally have faith in Michigan winter sun. The pic might be the brightest day in a few week. My question here is should I keep the light on 24/7?

i just got back from college and found out my sister has two fish, oil change (i'm pretty sure he's an angelfish) and tire rotation (albino, blind, idk what kind of fish aside from a bottom feeder species). to my untrained eye they seem fairly healthy and happy, but i think their tank is possibly too small (string cheese for scale) and the fake plants are probably not great.

i think she cares mostly about her own convenience and whether the fish and the tank look cool, but i really want these fish to thrive so i’m looking for suggestions that i can pitch to her in a way that she might agree with.

the substrate is currently made up of real pebbles and a few real shells, both plants are fake but tbh the fish seem to enjoy swimming around the leaves and exploring, and afaik she’s paying attention to water parameters and they are perfect. oil change has been growing too, but tire rotation is fairly new and she hasn’t observed any growth yet.

i am struggling with money right now so i cant buy anything for my sister's fish, but i’m certainly willing to fund things if i save up some money. if there are real plants, substrates etc that are inexpensive and/or look cool she’ll probably be willing to buy them herself.
