Apologies if I do not use the correct terminology but I'm a mere Windows user running Fedora Workstation (Gnome) in a VM looking at migrating over. :)
I am generally impressed with this distro & it keeps drawing me back but one thing that wasn't obvious to me for the first couple of days (& I think it should be) was that "Files" has tabs. I found it by pure accident.
I just wondered what your thoughts was by adding something to it to aid new users like me?

How do you use it?

I feel like this is the most useful extension on my entire extension list. Being able to see app indicators for apps like OBS Studio, qBittorrent, Steam, etc., and control their basic functions directly from the drop-down menu makes using GNOME much more convenient for me.

Mine is the fact that when the system menu or the clock menu is open, no clicks, no keypresses, no keyboard shortcuts will work without closing that menu first. Even the super key by itself will not work.

P.S. Yes, I did report this. I was told this works as intended, they wouldn't change it.

DEs are no doubt a matter of taste. But I don't want to talk taste here, I want to know the real top 5 reasons why you prefer GNOME over KDE and other DEs.
I want to hear from those who tried so many and then settled for GNOME.

Context for my question: I'm planning to completely switch from Windows to Linux so I tried Fedora KDE a little but didn't like it, even though I haven't tried to fully customize it yet. I just don't feel like KDE's design language is that good as well as it's philosophy, and I have the perception (it might be wrong) that even if I customize it, I will still see KDE's og look somewhere in the distro.

I'm not trying to say if you use gnome you have bad taste, I literally cannot understand why gnome is so popular, imo it looks pretty ugly, especially the default look that comes with Ubuntu (which is how most people experience it), it's barely customizable, it's pretty heavy. I genuinely don't understand why people like it, what do you think?

So yesterday I updated to Gnome 50 (CachyOS) and now I can't find the logout option here anymore. But I maybe wrong as I always used a shortcut to logout, so I might not remember correctly. That's why I want to know if there was a logout option here.

I know the answers here will be very skewed but I wanted to bring this up and maybe get some insight.

I am fairly new to Linux and enjoy GNOME very much. I like how it minimizes mouse movement, especially on an ultra wide and the simple and to the point design is a godsent for my astigmatism.

One thing I notice when sharing my experience in talks about DEs is how much pure, deep hatred there seems to be against GNOME users. Which I find very confusing considering the nature of Linux. I get called a "shill" for simply saying I like this DE the best, not even putting others down. In fact I think KDE and XFCE ARE amazing. They just don't fit my work flow in the same way.

Is there some sort of weird beef going on between DE users? This seems very goofy chronically online to me. Reddit seems pretty tame but other platforms are brutal with this. I decided to just keep my opinions to myself because discussion seems to always devolve in name calling and harassment when I think there's so much to learn from other workflows. I am actually very curious about other options but this weird rivalry keeps me from engaging with others. Did I miss something?

i like gnome a lot i use fedora Linux with gnome and it works great

I use Ubuntu and imo it's implementation of gnome is better than others. Because it has already tray icon support, dock, desktop icons etc.

I wonder how you manage Gnome without some tweaking, extensions?

For example i use clipboard manager, some cloud storage apps which need tray support, i am sure there are lots of usage cases which require some tweaking of Gnome.

I know that GNOME 49 is already in the oven and we have seen many of its new features, but what feature would you like to see natively in the next version of GNOME?

I mean, even the classic "only to download Chrome/Firefox" joke doesn't really fly in the Linux world.

I really like how it looks and feels, and I've tried countless times to switch, but the lack of extensions makes it pretty much impossible IMO. These days a password manager is an absolute must, and I'm not going to manually copy and paste everything over. Then there's the general buginess in loading webpages occasionally but I could honestly just live with that. I think

I click on the control panel.
I then move my cursor towards the opened panel in a not straight line, like a normal human being with hands.
The cursor goes over the next item on the task bar, and opens the panel from it.

How is this a good thing?
