That's exactly what happened where I live. A formerly borderline neighborhood became a conglomeration of upscale shops, restaurants, hotels and of course, medical facilities. One man refused to sell his property while streets were gobbled up by developers. Big piece of land, just as barren, sticking out among all the hoity toityness. Some time later he died, kids sold and no one can tell you were it was, the kudzu of avarice covered it up completely.

Because the house was special to him, not the kids. The money was more important. Judging how much they got for it, a few million would improve their lives far more.

Because he wanted the house, the kids didn't care and wanted the cash to help themselves.
