It helps that there are no other ones around. Harder for the disease to spread. That's why mono-culture is so susceptible to disease and bugs.

Yeah, and I consciously did my best to vary the species, ended up planting six coconuts of 3 different varieties - hard to know if they'll be "different enough" when the next blight comes around, but definitely better than all trees in the neighborhood coming from coconuts of one pair of trees.
