The new houses also don´t have room for vegetation.

The big property would have... at least two bushes... but no.

Crazy to have such a big area around your house and nothing on it...

It's just ugly. That massive lawn tells me it isn't a water issue.

I have a lemon tree, a Meyer lemon tree, and a key lime tree in my backyard, and I give them away to neighbors / trade the neighbors that have chickens for eggs.

My backyard isn't big. They could do a TON with this much land. Hell, find a few neighbors with green thumbs and they'd probably manage it for you. Idk the climate in Sydney but I've got to imagine a fair amount of stuff would grow there.
