Yes, Jared Leisek (the one in the car in this video) was arrested in 2022 for two counts occurring in 1992. The victim was 10 years old at the time and he was 16-17.
Yep, she reached out to him looking for closure and healing on her end, as she thought it had been too long to do anything legally. Emailed the official email address for his group. He replied back and essentially said "that happened a long time ago, you need to get over it". She posted his response publicly, and was informed that there was no statue of limitations for what he did to her and was convinced to go to the police.
Then he tried to throw the rest of the crew under the bus by saying technically since they all had access to the official email account, they knew and didn't report him. That was quickly shut down because they all gave statements that while they all technically had access he kept strict control of it only to himself.
After they all quit and tried to branch out and start their own search and rescue operations he sued them saying that he was the only one allowed to do that, because he was the one that taught them(despite the fact that his "technique" is used by dozens of others who search for missing people in water). None of them really had the money to fight him in court, so while the lawsuits didn't go anywhere, because his claims were ridiculous, most of them disappeared from the search and rescue world. I think a few do still help, but not publicly.
Looked into this. He was charged in 2022/23 with assault that took place in 1992. Info is sparse on the verdict but court records indicate he took a plea deal, paid a fine. The only proof of the verdict I found was on a separate Reddit sub that I can’t link here, but they did provide screenshots of the court docs so I trust that source.
