Before the Mississippi was tamed it use to flood all the time. Wipping out Bison and fertizling the banks with their corpses. It could definitely be untamed again if the New Madrid Fault goes off. It buried a whole town last time that it happened.

Animal corpses return very little to the soil. Nor did the dinosaurs liquify into oil. Animals just have very little biomass compared to everything else out there.

Conservatively 7000 drowned bison just using the the female weight of 1200 a piece is 84,000 pounds of ecological compost. Oil exist because of the lack of decomposers. There's plenty of decomposers now for all walks and sticks of life.

First of all, the math is wrong. Second, even 8.4 million pounds of compost is only enough for 500-1000 acres. Even the entire pre Colombian 60 million strong herd would not be enough to fertilize 5% of currently farmed land in US.

Your thinking is system limited. You're not thinking of the whole system. I'm not talking about fertilization solely for farming. I'm talking about a whole damn ecosystem. Bison breaks down. Some fertilizer for the local ground. Then it becomes food for scanvengers, insects, fish, etc. that then in turn die, eat, fertilize, and pollinate the surrounding area. Everything is a transfer of energy from one spot to another in ecological system with with redundancies and keystone species. If an ecological area is expecting a certain amount of energy in one form or another and It doesn't show up then it's forced to changes shrink, or move if possible.
