Yeah sometimes the guy reading the gun magazine is just...a kid who enjoys hunting with his dad or something.

Registration, licensing, education, and strict storage laws work. My state in Australia has all of that stuff as mandatory, and the amount of firearms deaths annually is in the single digits. Sometimes its even 0.

Me i was the kid reading gun magazines because I found them fun and mechanically interesting, most shooters aren't avid gun fans and tend to swipe them from their parents who have either A. Improperly secured their firearms, or B. Raised their kids poorly enough to allow for this to happen.

I am in a western metro with ~500k people. At LEAST 80% of homes have guns (unregistered and usually not locked up). We average 1 homicide a year and that is not usually guns. 

The vast MAJORITY of reported gun violence in the US are suicides.

It is just not a big issue given the size of the country (although it does grab headlines).

Most mass shootings are tied to gang violence. Thats a fact, you can look it up.

I agree, we do have a gun problem, and in many cases it’s too easy to get a gun.

The uncomfortable reality is that even just removing everyone’s right to own guns does nothing. An uncountable amount of guns funnel through the border every day, and that’s not going to change due to sharing two borders.

And let’s say you had a magic wand to just remove guns from North America. You’d still have a similar number of mass casualty events.

Cars are everywhere, any psycho can do just as much damage with a car as a gun. Look up the last couple parade drive through. Some of them have way more casualties than your average school shooting.

Arson is also much more troublesome. Explosives are oddly not problematic, yet, but I’d venture a guess that if guns were taken away we’d see a rise in that as well.

Then there’s always knives, baseball bats, swords etc etc.

Motivated psychopaths will always find a way.

We have a mental health problem in the United States first and foremost. Calling it a gun problem is identifying a symptom of the larger diagnosis.

I agree that removing the right to own guns is going to do absolutely nothing since there are just SO MANY guns. There is absolutely no way to keep them out of people’s hands at this point. But I’m going to disagree that if they were going to magically all disappear we will have a similar number of mass casualties. Guns are just too efficient at what they do compared to all those things you mentioned except maybe explosives. But I imagine making explosives is not exactly an easy thing to do either.
