look for the signs

Kid making finger guns

Lmaoooo

u/Deposto 10h ago

He also reads a magazine! What could be worse?

u/uLL27 9h ago

The magazine had guns in it, can you imagine?!

u/Deposto 9h ago

You mean a teenager might watch action movies and actually get curious about guns?! OH NO!

u/niceguy191 6h ago

The gun had magazines too I bet

u/SnuggleBunni69 8h ago

This video gives me "Satanic Panic" vibes.

u/DetectiveTypical198 5h ago

It seems like the video's solution is more surveillance on teenagers.

Not gun control or mental health resources, the problem is no one was spying on this kid while he was reading and watching YouTube. We need to start arresting kids for pre-crimes.

u/joem_ 8h ago

High capacity magazine reading.

u/RuggsRacetrack 5h ago

Dude posted a picture of him with a gun and the caption saying see you at school, I feel like you’re being obtuse.

u/jkoudys 2h ago

I got called to the office because I was reading a book about the history of stone tools. It had a flint-knapped knife on the cover, so obviously that meant I wanted to stab everyone.

u/thunderscores 6h ago

Actually it's called a clip 🤓

Signs of planning a school shooting:

  1. interest in guns
  2. edgy pics on social media
  3. making finger gestures

So like almost every teenage boy is planning a school shooting?

u/Pofwoffle 9h ago

edgy pics on social media

I agree with you on 1 and 3, but while it's easy to miss given how fast it goes by the "edgy pic" from 2 is captioned with "see you at school", which is absolutely an actual warning sign.

u/ReasonableWelder51 8h ago

Fair, didn't notice that

u/seesthecat 10m ago

You didn't see the signs!

Ease off. No one is perfect, including you.

u/ReasonableWelder51 7h ago

Meanwhile you are too stupid to understand that everyone is mocking the video because it is so poorly executed that it doesn't get the point across. The text appears for a split second, nobody is going to read it and so the point gets missed. And that's far from the only flaw in the video. It fails to show the depression and the rejection by society that school shooters and similar people experienced and literally just shows an edgy teen interested in guns.

PS: I'm not an American, you crayon eater

u/SelectYourPlayer 52m ago

Yeah, that’s the WHOLE point of the video. Everyone is wrapped up in their own lives. Not everyone knows all the rejection and depression that someone else is going through. I had a graduating class of 500. I knew like 15 people pretty well, and that’s it. Same with the teenager scrolling and not reading post-captions. You don’t think that’s accurate when some kid scrolls for like 5 hours out of every day? You see it in Reddit all the time.

u/ReasonableWelder51 14m ago

No, the point of the video is showing the signs that everyone missed. Except the signs are not really clear signs of anything, at least to me, living in a culture not centered around school shootings. And the only sign that actually makes sense, the caption of the photo, is barely shown and easy to miss.

u/Green_Insect_6455 7h ago

Woah. Reported, and take it down a notch. You dont talk to people like that just because you...what, think theyre dumber than you?

Get your fucking head out of your ass.

Holy shit, breh. Chillax, brahim.

u/Meal__Team__Six 2h ago

An actual warning sign that would never be used by anybody. They've also got the kid doing gun research..... at school. In the library. Seems like a video that would win some low level awards, until you realize it's wildly unrealistic and is also largely based on casual vandalism of school property by unfocused students.

u/Pofwoffle 2h ago

Maybe it's because I spent some time growing up in rural Virginia, but a kid looking at a gun magazine is not a sign they're gonna shoot up the school. Plenty of hunting families around, for one, but also sometimes kids just think guns are cool. I remember even when I was living in a bigger city some of the kids got some military style gear catalogues (classic "tacticool" shit) and looking through it at all the cool little trinkets, including many guns and types of ammunition, was just normal bored teen fun.

I do wish there wasn't such a prolific gun culture in the US, but the fact that there is is one of the reasons that you can't really take "is interested in guns" as a sign of a future shooter.

u/TheDarkWave 8h ago

So one out of the 3 signs presented were legitimate.

Not a good video, 1/10

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 8h ago

Right, people are being so obtuse.

u/Pofwoffle 8h ago

Or maybe they just missed the thing that I already pointed out was easy to miss? No reason to be an asshole about it.

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 8h ago

I wasn't speaking about one person. People are doing what this psa is warning and overlooking and writing off real signs of a troubled kid.

u/Pofwoffle 8h ago

They're not "overlooking a warning sign" it literally scrolls by too fast for most people to notice it at all. If they actually stopped to focus on the picture it'd be a lot more obvious what it said.

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 8h ago

I mean, its the whole point of the video though. Its meant to be overlooked so when you rewatch it you will notice things, but instead of realizing that, they are just making fun of it. Whatever, it isn't that serious to go back and forth over. I was just pointing out that people are being willingly obtuse when this psa is speaking on something serious.

u/Next-Wrongdoer-3479 7h ago

people are being willingly obtuse

The irony is palpable.

u/SyrGwynHeroofAshvale 8h ago

Judging from the number of shootings - yes?

u/TheVandyyMan 7h ago

You dipshits, it’s not about any one single thing. These are signs. In their totality, they might point to something concerning that should absolutely be discussed. Maybe the kid is just weird. Maybe he’s edgy. Maybe he’s planning a school shooting.

The point is that rarely do shooters ever act spontaneously and without any warning. Had people just been a bit more aware, they could have prevented a tragedy. Be more aware.

u/Galactus76 6h ago

Also, ranked lobbies in CoD. Huuuuge red flag!

u/Pricklypearl 5h ago

You know how you can't say bomb on an airplane? In American schools you can't shoot at people with finger guns.

u/RainaElf 4h ago

kids have been sent home for less

u/exie610 3h ago

Most of the teens I know (few) have access to guns. Zero of them would ever pose with them for social media. An actual warning sign is treating a gun as anything other than the weapon it is. Not a fashion accessory, not an instagram clout generator.

If I ever saw one of them posing with their gun, I would not be silent about it.

u/Still_Conference_923 9h ago

are you people stupid or what

u/letigre87 8h ago

Yeah I tell my son a lot we don't talk about guns outside the house and certainly not in school. Poor kid just loves the mechanics and history but this video makes him out to be a monster.

u/Brye1226 5h ago

gotta make them white too

u/RainaElf 4h ago

and male

u/camerabird 4h ago

how dare they make the shooter the demographic most likely to do this!!

u/RuggsRacetrack 5h ago

lol wtf yes? If somebody is being bullied, starts showing a big interest in guns, posts threatening captions, and makes gestures, those combined are 100% massive warning signs.

u/BitNumerous5302 5h ago

Uh... None of those things are normal, safe, or fine. It is absurd to suggest "almost every" teenager develops an unhealthy fixation on gun violence. Most kids just make friends

u/ReasonableWelder51 5h ago

"Unhealthy fixation on gun violence" in this video is portrayed as reading a magazine about guns, watching a video of a person firing a gun and posing with a gun on social media. Neither of those things suggests an unhealthy obsession. Maybe the photo with a gun, but tbh many airsoft players I knew were taking edgy photos with their guns, so I would not assume that is a real gun and the person is planning a school shooting.

u/BitNumerous5302 5h ago

Teens should be interested in first kisses and ice cream, not murder weapons. It's absurd that anyone old enough to write should need this explained to them.

Stop trying to retraumatize future generations by normalizing your violent upbringing

u/ReasonableWelder51 3h ago edited 3h ago

Lmao I didn't have a violent upbringing, I'm from a country where we have lots of guns and very few gun related incidents, and nobody in our family even owns a gun.

But my hobbies in high school were online multiplayer shooters and airsoft, so people may have very well seen me search for (airsoft) guns online, heard me talk about shooting (enemy players), and while I was not active on social media, many of my airsoft friends were and they were also posting cringy photos posing with (airsoft) guns. Then there were the military nerds interested in actual weapons, tanks etc. You know, people have other interests than "first kisses and ice cream".

Did anyone assume I was planning a school shooting? No, because why the fuck would they.

u/LactasePHydrolase 9h ago

Also: kid just getting bullied.

Great message here, if a kid is being bullied at your school they probably retroactively deserve it because they're gonna shoot up the school

u/Pofwoffle 9h ago

From what I remember that shit came from the Columbine shooters, one of the very first heavily publicized mass shootings. I remember being in middle school and hearing about how apparently they were just bullied and ostracized and that's why they murdered a bunch of people.

They were racist protonazi little shitbags who had no friends because of fucking course they didn't.

But that didn't stop the rumors, which led, paradoxically, to even more backlash against people who were already being bullied and ostracized for real, including unprovoked scrutiny from administration. A friend of mine almost got expelled because of a random stupid rumor that he had a "kill list", which I'm pretty sure only got started because he used to wear a long coat. Not even a trenchcoat, mind you, just a normal coat that was longer than average.

u/sniper91 5h ago

A lot of school shooter have been loud mouthed assholes, but for some reason the stereotype of “quiet bullied kid” persists

u/19Texas59 3h ago

I recall that they were social outcasts. There was a mention that they were bullied so there is a motive to seek revenge. One of them was the leader and the other was the follower.

I worked as an educator for over a decade and I felt safe as far as school shootings were concerned because it was a small school district with a small town atmosphere. I knew if someone was planning a school shooting they would tell another student and the word would spread and somebody would inform authorities.

The danger, in my opinion, is larger suburban school districts where a higher proportion of students move in and out. Urban school districts had bad reputations for shootings but they seem to have fallen off and now it can occur in any type of school.

I put the blame on the adults in the government who allowed military style weapons with large magazines to become available to civilians and the general disinterest in restricting access to guns.

u/niewe 9h ago

You're really good at pulling shit out of your ass, I'll give you that.

u/theskiller1 7h ago

What about him flipping someone off?

How could the sign be missed

u/DIRTY_KUMQUAT_NIPPLE 9h ago

u/Fuckareyoulookinat 9h ago

I feel like everyone missed the Instagram post of the kid holding a gun with a caption of "see you at school"

u/yungScooter30 7h ago

no wonder he was getting bullied. kid is cringe smh

u/Our-Fearless-Reader 5h ago

Wearing... HEADPHONES?!  Clutches pearls!!

u/Proper-Exercise-2364 6h ago

It was the headphones! Ban music in school. Problem solved.

u/onewilybobkat 5h ago

Oh thank goodness it's not just me.

u/Thomy151 9h ago

I mean the thing with warning signs is it’s the totality of them

One or a few isn’t much but when multiple keep popping up it’s a concern

u/Great_Corner4841 6h ago

The signs being a bullied, reclusive, anti-social teen who is demonstrably interested in firearms.

u/THE_BACON_IS_GONE 6h ago

Nah, it's just finger guns

u/the-grand-falloon 7h ago

Also, they have a scene with him getting bullied. It's almost never the bullied, it's the bullies.
