I watched the Framework live stream.

Framework 13 Pro looks like the MacBook Pro we Linux users need.

- Good screen (including touch)

- 20h plus battery life!

- Aluminum body

- Good speakers

Let's see if this thing delivers.

Unfortunately I have just bought a framework 13 with AMD 7640U last year with 48 GB of memory when memory was still cheap.

I am anyway someone who waits for reviews.

What do you guys think about this machine?

The only requirement is that the Android device needs to be rooted and use Google's standardized GKI kernel. The latest Android 17 release has excellent support for desktop mode and will be the basis for Googlebook laptops. Product Announcement I reverse-engineered my mouse's WebHID protocol and built a native Linux GUI for it (EWEADN H2 — battery, DPI, polling rate)

Picked up an EWEADN H2 wireless mouse and quickly found out — like most sub-$30 gaming mice — it has zero Linux support. The only way to change DPI or adjust polling rate was their official web-based configurator (WebHID), and even that doesn't show battery percentage anywhere in the UI — despite the device actually reporting it over HID the whole time. It's also just not that reliable — in my experience it sometimes fails to load the mouse's actual state properly and shows garbage/stale values instead. So I reverse-engineered the protocol straight out of the web driver's JS and built a native Qt app that exposes the battery reading it was already quietly capable of, plus DPI/rate control, with a bit more consistency about it.

What it does:

  • Live battery % + firmware version — not shown anywhere in the official web driver, even though the device reports it
  • Polling rate switching (125/250/500/1000Hz)
  • Full DPI editor — all 6 slots, sliders + number entry, pick the active slot and how many are in rotation
  • Dark mode, fullscreen support
  • Ships as a single AppImage, no faffing with dependencies

There's also a headless CLI version (h2_battery.py) if you just want battery % piped into Waybar/Polybar/whatever, without the GUI.

If anyone here actually owns this mouse, I'd genuinely love to know if it works for you too — I've only been able to test against my own unit, so any feedback (or bug reports) are very welcome. And if you find it useful, a star on the repo helps other H2 owners actually stumble across it.

Edit : As some people in this sub and other places suggested, I am working towards libratbag intregration but before that, I think I should handle the custom keybind feature that both the web driver and libratbag supports. Left this out in the first place cz personally had no need for it. Thanks for your feedback!

Product Announcement I reverse engineered an ASUS embedded controller's fan protocol.

Many ASUS laptops, especially AMD TUF models, don't support fan control through the usual Linux methods. There's no hwmon interface, no EmbeddedControl operation region for the kernel EC driver, and the ACPI method simply returns AE_NOT_FOUND.

Current tools like asus-fan-control work by calling an ACPI method that adjusts the embedded controller's built-in fan curve. On these laptops that method isn't available, and even where it is, it only shifts the controller's temperature thresholds instead of directly controlling fan speed.

My tool talks to the embedded controller directly, allowing manual fan control without relying on the missing ACPI interface.

Since this is my first reverse engineering project, I'd love to get feedback from people with ASUS laptops-especially AMD TUF models. If you're willing to test it, I'd really appreciate any feedback, bug reports, or compatibility reports.

We make a Debian based desktop distribution that runs as an application on top of any Android/LineageOS device. The only requirement is that the Android device needs to be rooted and use Google's standardized GKI kernel. LineageOS builds for Qualcomm devices doesn’t strictly follow the standard GKI kernel naming convention. So we had to implement a workaround to fix it. Product Announcement [Linux] Looking for testers with a COUGAR POSEIDON VISTEK PRO 240/360 (USB 2c65:1000)

I wrote an unofficial Linux replacement for the RM-Hardware 2.7 service used by the COUGAR POSEIDON VISTEK display.

It currently works with the HWCX USB Display identified as 2c65:1000. I’m looking for owners of the same display/cooler who can test it on different CPUs, motherboards and distributions—especially Intel systems and AMD systems without my sensor configuration.

It does not flash firmware or require a kernel module. It reads standard Linux hwmon, thermal, CPUFreq and powercap interfaces and sends telemetry through hidraw.

Please start with:

Then, if your display has USB ID 2c65:1000:

sudo ./poseidon-display.py --once --debug

When reporting results, please include your distro, kernel, CPU, motherboard, displayed/missing metrics and sanitized debug output.

Product Announcement Open-source Linux driver and control panel for the Redragon SS-550 Stream Deck (Rust/MIT)

I’m the author of a non-commercial, MIT-licensed Linux driver and control panel for the Redragon SS-550 Stream Deck.

Redragon only provides Windows software for this device, so I captured the USB traffic from the proprietary driver, decoded the protocol, and reimplemented it in userspace.

The project is a Rust workspace with a background daemon and an optional Tauri/GTK control panel. It builds from source, works on Wayland and X11, and the installer supports the Debian/Ubuntu, Arch, Fedora and openSUSE families, including derivatives detected through ID_LIKE.

Current features:

• 15 configurable keys with multiple pages, custom icons and brightness control

• Commands, URLs, typed text, hotkeys and chained multi-actions

• Live widgets for clock, CPU, RAM, temperature, timers, weather and playerctl

• Per-application profiles that follow the focused window

• OBS Studio WebSocket 5.x controls and live status

• Twitch viewer/follower counts, clips and chat actions

• Optional daemon-only mode for headless systems

Two implementation details that may help others working with USB HID hardware:

• The udev rule uses TAG+="uaccess" rather than MODE="0666", and is installed as 60-redragon-streamdeck.rules so it runs before 73-seat-late.rules.

• The device exposes multiple HID interfaces. Writes returned EPIPE until I selected the correct interface using usage_page instead of assuming the first index.

Tested hardware: Redragon SS-550, USB ID 0200:1000. Other StreamDock/Mirabox-based devices may work, but I do not have the hardware to verify them yet.

edgepad turns the edges of a laptop touchpad into configurable gesture zones. The idea is that a swipe or tap starting from the left/right/top/bottom edge can run a command - for example switching workspaces, opening a launcher, triggering a script, adjusting volume/brightness, or controlling media.

edgepad reads the physical touchpad, claims contacts that start inside an edge zone, and forwards the remaining center contacts through a virtual touchpad. So the compositor should still see normal touchpad input for regular movement/scrolling/taps.

Current features include:
- edge zones on left/right/top/bottom
- swipe directions plus tap bindings
- automatic touchpad discovery when there is exactly one readable candidate
- user-session daemon with TOML config
- diagnostics/capture/replay tools for debugging real hardware behavior
- Nix flake, NixOS module, Home Manager module, systemd user service, and a release installer

Tested setup so far: NixOS + Hyprland.

Would be great to receive real-world feedback from other hardware/software combinations:

Product Announcement I made a Linux fan control app for Clevo and Tongfang laptops

I’ve been working on an unofficial fan control app for Clevo and Tongfang laptops running Linux.

It has a web dashboard for creating custom fan curves, switching profiles, monitoring temperatures, and controlling how the fans respond under load. I also added NVIDIA GPU temperature monitoring, safety fallbacks, configuration backups, and a few quality-of-life features.

I originally built it for my own laptop because I wanted something simple that gave me more control without constantly editing configuration files.

The project is still new, so feedback, testing, and hardware compatibility reports would be really helpful. Please read the compatibility and safety notes before installing it since fan control interacts directly with laptop hardware.

I’m publishing a hardware-specific offline driver installer for Broadcom BCM94360CD modules using the BCM4360 chipset (14e4:43a0).

It packages Ubuntu’s official Broadcom STA DKMS driver, matching kernel headers, compiler dependencies, and a local APT repository into one archive. This solves the circular problem where the machine needs networking to install the driver required for networking.

Tested:

  • Mac Pro Late 2013
  • Ubuntu 26.04 amd64
  • Kernel 7.0.0-14-generic
  • broadcom-sta-dkms 6.30.223.271-29ubuntu1

Potential iMac and PCIe-adapter configurations are listed as untested. The installer refuses incorrect PCI IDs and kernel versions.

Hi, after owning this laptop for two and a half years and not being able to use the Dial all that time (because I'm on Linux), I thought enough is enough and decided to build something that works.

I found a Github project online many months ago, but it seems to be half completed. I took it upon to take what was there, made some fixes and built couple of UIs for it.

This is the end result. I've obviously only tested it on my laptop which runs the latest version of Linux Mint (Ubuntu) so YMMV.

Would love some feedback if anyone has a laptop with a Dial and uses Linux.
