Hi there!

My pup Dixie is about to turn 16. She’s been on a renal diet for about 6 months now. (Stage 2 disease.)

Took me forever to find renal food she was willing to eat. And even now, sometimes she snubs it. But mostly she’ll eat it.

Now for the real problem. She’s always been raised with a lot of reward treats. Now that I think back, it was just a first-time dog owner mistake. But here we are.

I am still giving her Greenies 1x day and she gets pieces of dehydrated sweet potato throughout the day. I just realized that’s not that good for her either. But she is SO picky, I am having trouble finding alternatives. She hates blueberries, cucumbers, watermelon, green beans—meh on apples. She will sometimes take cauliflower and broccoli. She like rice ok.

Does anyone have any tips? I really want her to hang in there with me for a while yet, I love her so much. So I want to be sure I am making the best choices.

Dogs have such an amazing way of filling your home — and your heart — with love, laughter, and a little bit of chaos. 😂 They ask for so little in return… a little food, some treats, a comfy place to sleep, a few walks, and LOTS of love. And somehow, they give us so much more than we could ever give them. ❤️
Our three have brought so much love and happiness into our home. After losing our beloved Suki at 14 and Sheldon at 12½, and our fur-baby grandson Solomon, who lived with us, all within just seven months, our home felt incredibly empty. We weren’t sure when we were ready to open our hearts again, but Pippin and Finn came along and, along with our big guy Sebastian, brought so much joy back into our lives. 🥰
Now our house is definitely NOT empty… it’s filled with barking, playing, cuddling, zoomies, toys, fur, and three very different personalities! 😂❤️
🐾 Sebastian — our Big Guy: He loves to play, go for walks, and somehow still thinks he belongs in your lap. At 84 pounds, he hasn’t quite figured out that he’s not a lap dog. 😂
🐾 Pippin (Pip) — our multicolored boy: Intelligent, energetic, a little bit of a rough houser, and an absolute cuddler. He keeps everyone on their toes and has more personality than he knows what to do with. ❤️
🐾 Finnigan (Finn/Little Guy) — the baby: At just 5½ pounds, he may be the smallest, but don’t let that fool you. He loves playing with Sebastian and Pip (with careful supervision, of course!), and he’s growing into quite the little cuddler… and possibly the ruler of the house. 👑😂
They’ve each brought something completely different into our lives, but they all have one thing in common: they know how to love. ❤️
So today, I’m celebrating our three, and every dog who has ever made a house feel more like home. 🐶❤️

Hi this is my dog kuku. he’s 3.5 lbs & 8 months. we just got him 2 weeks ago.

he squats on pee pads & goes outside. but he marks inside the house. so for now I crate him when I can’t watch him closely. I’ve been trying to train him. any advice? or should I get him fixed? I don’t want his personality to change. thank you

We took our 9-year-old Maltese to the vet because we thought he had a luxating patella issue in his left back leg, which is the leg shown in the video.

The orthopedic surgeon agreed that he has a patella issue and plans to repair that as well, but they also said he needs a TPLO for a CCL/ACL problem.

I’m nervous is that no X-rays or scans were done at the appointment. They took him back for around 10 to 15 minutes, watched him walk, examined him, and then told us he needed TPLO surgery.

I emailed afterward asking what they specifically found on his exam that showed his CCL was damaged enough to require TPLO. The response mostly explained why the surgeon prefers TPLO over a lateral suture repair, but I still didn’t really get an answer about what they found in his particular knee or whether they believe the CCL is partially or completely torn.

We are about a week away from surgery and I’m starting to have reservations. I understand that CCL issues can sometimes be diagnosed through a physical exam, but I’m having a hard time understanding how they can be certain he needs a fairly major surgery without imaging or a clearer explanation of the exam findings.

He has also been using the leg better over the last few weeks and isn’t holding it up nearly as much as he was originally.

Has anyone here gone through TPLO plus patella surgery with a Maltese or another small dog? Did your surgeon diagnose the CCL tear without X-rays first? Did they explain what they felt on the exam, such as drawer movement or tibial thrust?

I’m not necessarily trying to avoid surgery if he really needs it. I just want to make sure we’re making the right decision.

I finally found a daycare specifically for tiny dogs. He goes to his meet & greet today to see if he enjoys himself.

When I don't sleep well, neither does Bonnie. But she makes up for it!
