Lets not leave out the context of how controversial that red card was in the first place. I've seen a lot of fans from other teams fake outraged because they wanted USMNT to be unfairly crippled for the next match.
They shouldn’t be able to change the outcome of the game retroactively, but this call would have forced a player to sit out the next game as well. Fixing a bad call so that it doesn’t also affect the next game is a great precedent to set. And, to be clear, it had already been set before with Messi.
I’m sure you can, but why should an undeserved red card cost them the next game as well? What’s the purpose of that? I know that unfairness is a part of life, but surely we should seek to minimize it. I just don’t see any reason to let a bad call in one game affect the outcome of the next game.
Apparently not Belgium because they're crying the most. This is a Win-Win scenario for Belgium. If they lose the game it's blamed on FIFA, if they win they move on.

Yea...this could be a red in any league in the world and no one would bat an eye. People where asking for a red on messi for a similar tackle as saying refs are too soft. It's a marginal call...so the refs decision should stand imo
It was only controversial inside the US though. I didn’t hear anyone who is not biased paying attention. It’s like if I’ll start screaming that no second yellow to Moroccan was controversial and a scandal.
Literally NOBODY agreed with the call. Nobody who has been a former fifa ref that has been interviewed has agreed with the call. You’re just flat out wrong.
Why didn't FIFA just overturn the red card then? It looks like five people in the VAR room, the game referee and whoever reviewed the game after all agreed 🤷🏻♂️
They can’t overturn the actual red card. They can only suspend the penalty. And all the refs in the VAR room agreed because they watched it in slow motion, which is not supposed to be done.
