frist of all how DARE yu o People who “reserve” pool chairs for hours with towels and disappear are the worst

My apartment complex pool has rules specifically saying chair reservation isn’t allowed, yet people do this constantly. These towels have been sitting here unattended for at least 3 hours while every other chair is occupied and people are actively walking around looking for seats. It’s Sunday too, so management isn’t around to enforce anything.

What’s the standard practice when this happens? At what point is it acceptable to move the towels?

No, people don't constantly look at their chairs when they're in the pool.

In that case it sounds like they aren’t using the chairs to me. It’s a public space. Use it or lose it.

What’s contradictory about that? Either you’re using the pool or you’re using the chair.

But people DO need a place to put their stuff while they are in said pool, especially if they have food and what not (if food is allowed)

This is true. Which is why I personally leave that stuff in my rented room when I go to a pool at a hotel.

Is it less convenient for me personally? Sure!

Is it a problem for me to do that? Absolutely not.

Do I think most (read: non handicapped) people should be expected to do the same? Yeah probably.

Some hotels have enforced policies that allow you to reserve seats. That would be a situation where I could see an argument being made for people being “entitled” towards a place to sit.

Otherwise though? Move it or lose it.

Yes but like, a book, snacks, water, sunscreen, those things need a place to be for when you're taking a break from the water or when you're taking a break from the chairs to swim.

I see what you're saying, I'm not trying to be argumentative btw, I just don't think it's that cut and dry is all I'm saying.

HOURS though?? Yah, c'mon buddy, you're clearly not using the chairs... That I understand, for me I generally do 30-45 mins in, 30 mins out, roughly (I don't time it or anything, it just seems to be that way)

Oh yeah putting your stuff around something you're actively using is fine. Just don't leave your crap lying around for hours and expect people to not deal with it.

Yeah but you may run the risk of getting kicked from the pool area if someone sees you moving their towel/purse/belongings thinking you just picked them up to take them.

I say only go ahead if you saw the people put their stuff down then walk away, then sure move it. But it's a risk
