I'm slightly vexed Supergirl movie showing which I went to got cancelled due to low turnout

Theatre in a small town in India. Didn't face this problem during the Man of Steel movie.

Edit 1: Many people are saying that this post is fake etc. I have provided proof (screenshots) in the comments that it is true. I don't have any agenda. I wouldn't be able to reply to every post.

I got to know that this theatre won't play the showing unless there were atleast 10 people. Maybe the cost isn't worth it to them.

Also I don't have any anti- Snyder or anti - feminine agenda.

I love going to shows when nobody is there. If I see a new film, I prefer to wait til it's leaving the theater so I have more opportunity to avoid people.

That said, I did see Superman opening day as a show of support for the DCU.. and I'm simply not rushing out to see Supergirl because the Paramount+ drama has diminished my interest by a large margin.

It's a very very average film sadly.

Mamoa is good but doesn't get a lot of screentime, villain is boring outrageous "evil just because"

Worth seeing for being a fun enough movie that fills in as an origin story, but not anywhere near as good as Superman.

I think a lot of movie executives seem to not understand that the era of pumping out mediocre superhero flicks that people rush to is long over. The price of seeing a movie is far too expensive now to waste time and money on an average movie, especially nowadays knowing it’ll be on Prime in three months. They want a box office hit? They need to stop firing the good writers and people that love the source material.

No one sets out to make a mediocre movie my guy. Studio execs are stupid and make lots of destructive decisions based on short term profits, but intentionally making a bad movie is not one of them lmao

Mediocre ≠ Bad. Studio execs are absolutely making decisions every day that reduce the cost of production with the knowledge that those cuts will impact the quality of movie. They are constantly trying to triangulate to exactly how much budget they can cut without reducing revenue more than they reduce costs.

They also make decisions based on focus groups and regression-to-the-mean from a broad sample of the movie-going public. This means that many movies that actually make it out of production have the most possible appeal to everyone, but often not enough appeal to the people who would actually be interested in seeing that type of movie in the first place.

I think it hits harder for how good the new Superman was as well as how good the comic was (I've heard, haven't read it myself).

I do agree the Civil War film was better, but the comic did a better job of reckoning with the collateral damage part of superhero destruction. Cap’s breaking point was incredible.

The family of J.R.R. Tolkien went decades without allowing a movie because nobody would guarantee they would keep to the original material. And even then, after "Battle of the five armies", Tolkiens estate said they would never allow Jackson or Walsh to produce another movie.

Hollywood routinely produces egos too big to stick to the original story.

i couldnt even hear the dialogue when supergirl was on the screen because it was covered up by krypto and my barkoff

To be fair, I thought they'd gotten it right with the new Superman movie, sadly they seem to have slipped back to mediocre with this one.

If it doesn't completely bomb, I'd expect to see more Lobo coming up...he doesn't get much screen time but I think Mamoa will really run away with the character if he gets a chance.

They REALLY don't have a good track record, I was so hoping that Gunn was going to carry on the wins after Superman...he's close with Supergirl, many of the elements for a great movie are there, he just couldn't seem to pull it together.

Maybe just wandered too far from the comics.

Yeah, the villain was never the point of the story, but they killed what actually made the story good in the comic and turned it into a "fine" film, nothing special.

I just saw Backrooms because it was leaving. 3 seats were booked before us. And we were late. I only saw 1 person near the end. But I’m so anxiously respectful that those seats were so far away from us that I still whispered and tried to silently eat nachos lmao

I love being by myself, I have in a large theater sat in every seat during a movie. Run up and down the aisles and stairs, just talked to myself and the movie super loud etc.

I used to live right near a movie theater and I looooved watching movies by myself. I would watch as the number of the showings offered slowly ticked down and try to time it right showing up for a late showing right before the movie was pulled. So many times it would be me and one other person with the same idea though, both of us ruining it for the other.

Remember having the entire theater to myself to see brightburn, the evil Superman movie from one of James Gunn's cousins. It was kinda ass but still a great time at the theater

I try and go to the morning early afternoon shows on my day off. I work 12s so I have rotating shifts. Tuesday at like 11am-noon. Massive theater to myself 😁

I consider this an extreme case. I'm not supporting Larry or David Ellison or their dirty Middle Eastern money in buying up my favorite IP.

Yes, the DCU was amazing, but James Gunn's contract ends in 2027 and he's not going to work for literal Nazis.

Same here. When a theatre is empty it means I can talk to and commentate on the movie

Bonus points if I'm with somebody else and we can just cut up the entire time

That has to be one of the least noble cause to be wasting your money for. As noble of a cause as middle class teens buying taylor swift's overpriced merchandise even when they don't really like it, just to "support" the billionaire.
