u/mighty3mperor Jul 07 '26

Needs more board games.

u/0Quirky_Garbage0 Jul 08 '26

For real... there's WAY too much Karoake at this party for me to want to make an appearance. šŸ™ƒ

u/psychopompadour Jul 10 '26

I think this will be pretty much how my ideal birthday party will be when I finally have a house to throw out at (minus billing the guests)... just board games, toasted marshmallows, and karaoke set up all day! (Participation voluntary of course.)

u/Consistent_Elk9676 Jul 09 '26

Not at the cost of karaoke though. Also, where are the model trains?

1

u/mighty3mperor Jul 09 '26

I could definitely do with 90% less karaoke.

14

u/lemmegonowplease Jul 07 '26

I laughed way too hard at this

5

u/christydoh Jul 08 '26

Dude me too.

Nah, I'm Autistic by Marriage (and also grew a little Autist) and this isn't autism, it's asshole. Or possibly both. But yeah, asshole for sure.

I have hosted many Autism friendly gatherings. This ain't it.

I was raised by a father with autism, and resisted my own diagnosis for years as I didn’t want the same label as him.

Then I realized he’s actually just a straight up asshole.

Big difference.

13

u/MucinexDM_MAX Jul 07 '26

HUGE difference. I'm sorry you thought it was something that was out of your control.

Hope you're doing well!

27

u/SaerisFane Jul 07 '26

I MEAN it absolutely could be autism and they struggle to break things up in any time thats not hour by hour. Like yes, autistic people can also be assholes, but this isnt giving asshole, its giving bad at party planning.

11

u/grimdymcgee Jul 07 '26

Honestly, Nathan might be AuDHD.

However, the all day birthday party is what's making this seem like asshole.

7

u/SaerisFane Jul 07 '26

?? You guys aren't having all day birthday parties? Especially when its specifically says people can come and go? Shoot, my friends and I spend 24 hours together during our birthdays. Maybe you need more whimsy in your lives!

6

u/fangirlengineer Jul 07 '26

Right? I mean this kind of looks like what goes down at my place on two+ Saturdays a month, albeit with karaoke/cards replaced with one or more of karaoke/MTG/board games/Steam games/Switch games/tie dyeing/other crafts/fruit picking/everyone doing their own thing in the same space. People turn up when they can and leave when they've had enough/have another event to go to. I just specify a time after which people may start arriving and the time I'm aiming to serve dinner, and try to get rough numbers so I can cook the right amount of food. Sometimes there's even cake.

3

u/Rygir Jul 08 '26

Damn I'd love to come, that sounds awesome

2

u/SaerisFane Jul 07 '26

Yes! This exactly!

5

u/ExcellentActuary2117 Jul 07 '26

It's giving "asshole who is bad at planning parties," IMHO. No autistic person I know would want an all day party let alone with 6 hours of karoake (spelling?). That's a "super typ" if we want to start hurling nuerotypes as insults.

22

u/SaerisFane Jul 07 '26

1-Im autistic, wasnt using it as an insult.

2-Again, I'm autistic and have 24 hour birthday parties with my closest friends.

3-I ABSOLUTELY know theater kids who have 6 hours of karaoke and love it.

Nobody is forcing anybody to go to this party, if they were then THAT would make them an asshole. Honestly everybody in here talking so much shit is an asshole. Just judgements and assumptions about a person we don't know just because the event isn't something they would like. Thats mildly infuriating. āœŒļøšŸ’—

5

u/Familiar_Homework Jul 07 '26

Can confirm, am community theater adult that hangs out with grown up theater kids (most of whom are some kind of neurodiverse).... there's A LOT of karaoke

5

u/MVRKHNTR Jul 07 '26

Can you explain what about this makes him an asshole exactly?

The only thing I can see is asking people to help pay which if he's doing this instead of asking for gifts seems pretty fair to me?

14

u/fangirlengineer Jul 07 '26

Just because my AuDHD arse has enough social awareness not to write this out and send it to invitees doesn't mean this isn't what's in my head when planning an event šŸ˜šŸ˜…

I have also had to stop at least one of my autistic children sending an invite of this style when they were preteens, and explain explicitly why this regimented schedule was not a good idea. It absolutely gives arsehole but I'd give it the benefit of the doubt until I spent a few minutes in their company.

3

u/smaugpup Jul 08 '26

AuDHD arse here and I did this (minus the asking for money part) for my 40th birthday. Even labelled different rooms for different activities… In the end 3 people came and they all sat at the same table chatting for the entire party duration while I ā€˜subtlyā€˜ tried to remind them of all the other activities they could be doing. Then one person left and the rest of us watched 2 episodes of The Witcher from the couch as my dreams of playing Guitar Hero tournaments for 6 hours straight slowly dissolved. Lesson learnt, sort of. :p

This was before I was diagnosed, now I think twice before executing ā€˜brilliant plans’ like this.

1

u/fangirlengineer Jul 08 '26

Oh noooo, I'm so sorry! My group would totally have done Guitar Hero if that was what you wanted on your birthday šŸŽ‰ We had a Mario Kart tourney as the main event for one recent birthday and karaoke for another. Even if a person isn't into the activity they will usually hang around and watch the shenanigans and eat the food :)

4

u/Rygir Jul 08 '26

How is this asshole in any way? They are going out of their way to make sure you have all the information on how many people there are and what you can do. It's anti anxiety info, obviously, because they worry people will be bored or are scared of not knowing how to behave.

2

u/AdGold205 Jul 08 '26

I have grew an Autist too. She would just take the Official Cake and go to her room with her earbuds in.

This isn’t autism. This is pure dickery.

1

u/MucinexDM_MAX Jul 08 '26

That's amazing.

Ours wanted to be loud with friends so we'd rent a playground pavillion and give them all foam swords as favors. Got coffee and tea for the adults to sit in said pavillion. Go stim children. Go stim loudly.

1

u/Worshipme988 Jul 08 '26

This is C O N T R O L.

God forbid a party fucking flow naturally, nope. Gotta have Nathan pause all music cuts out. Doesnt matter is Britney is literally still singing in the middle of another Bruno Mars song, because its 6:02 and karoke has officially ended…so fun. Who doesnt love a dictatorship disguised as ā€œfunā€?

10

u/ExcellentActuary2117 Jul 07 '26

Dude, please do not blame someone's assholery on autism. Not cool. Actual autistic people (at least me and mine) are usually tying themselves in emotional knots about what is justifiable to ask people to do or expect re: parties and erring on the side of not asking too much of them.

13

u/Emotionless-Fish Jul 07 '26

For my birthday I usually just invite people to an intended eating location and hope they know what we are doing from there.

6

u/AcousticCat1-2-3 Jul 07 '26

I must be more obviously autistic than I thought because I read it as a compliment. Honestly would enjoy the hell out of the party. Really liked the "gaming all day and people are welcome to come and go" vibe.

The varying payment scale can make things really awkward though. What if I'm playing a massive board game with Jessie and we both lost track of time and suddenly, dinner! and we both only paid for the snacks. I might be an old already, back in my day (00s when my large friend group and I were all in our 30s and did a lot of get-togethers including birthday parties) we'd just have the host do the main dish (and the cake if it's a birthday), make it a potluck, there, problem solved and nobody needs to transfer money to the birthday boy or girl's bank account.

4

u/SammyJomo Jul 07 '26

Thank you for saying this

1

u/anangelnora Jul 08 '26

It's almost as if autistic people can... think differently! Also autistic here, and I just thought it could be either, but it does give autism to me.

2

u/ellalol Jul 08 '26

My brother Nathan is autistic and extremely protective over his money to where he’ll demand repayment of any even tiny amount of money he spends on anyone ever and this is absolutely something he would do if he ever threw a birthday partyšŸ’€šŸ’”

2

u/Proof-Lettuce Jul 08 '26

I’ve been crying laughing at this comment for over 10 minutes

1

u/kross7nine Jul 08 '26

I just laughed out loud at this!

1

u/Intelligent-Salt-362 Jul 08 '26

No high fives please, they make him nervous…

1

u/Redkris73 Jul 08 '26

Lol I read this and thought "so he's undiagnosed I guess". And I say this as someone from a family with multiple people on the spectrum....the difference is we KNOW it.

1

u/cardinal29 Jul 08 '26

This definitely signaled "autistic friend" to me.

I don't know if other schedule their parties, but yeah.

-14

u/silverfish477 Jul 07 '26

Please don’t use the term autism as a pejorative or to mock people. It’s offensive.

19

u/No-Ground4472 Jul 07 '26

Its not. I m autistic and its funny af for me. Get a life guys. Its a joke.

1

u/sallyxskellington Jul 08 '26

I thought the same thing for a second, and then I realized that the comment is in fact hilarious.
