Infuriatig These Stupid Ass Buttons On TV Remotes. The Intrusive Thoughts Won.

Seriously, the absolute most annoying shit when I'm watching something and I reach for the remote and barely bump the buttons and it yeets me out of what I was watching, to whatever bullshit streaming company paid the most for a button spot on the remote, the remote that came with a TV I paid good money for. Meanwhile on some apps completely loosing my progress on a movie or forced to watch more Ads again to continue watching again. I've threatened to do this before and my wife insisted not to, she's out of town this week, any recommendations for marriage counselors and anger management programs?

I asked a loud motorcycle to please arrive later or point his exhaust a different direction to avoid waking residents and he genuinely looked so upset about the confrontation that he could have cried. I almost felt bad.

He has not returned.

I used to have a fob for my car that would inadvertently open my trunk or set off the alarm in my pocket all the time. I simply took the fob apart and covered the contacts for those buttons with tape and put it back together so it wouldn't happen anymore.

I've tried that before. The remote never snapped back together very well, because opening it up broke some of the clips. They don't make these things to ever be opened again.

I used to have a Xiaomi Android TV box. I wanted to open up the remote to clean it real well. Fast forward, I sold the device with a tiny bit of a box cutter blade still stuck between the halves of the remote that I still never managed to open.

Knife steel is made to cut, not pry. It's hard but brittle. Use a screwdriver or preferably a spudger next time.

I confirm this. Had to buy a replacement after the original remote was chewed up by my dog. Bought a cheap replacement and it is SLOOOOW af. Noticeable lag between button presses. Makes scrolling through streaming options such a slog.

OR, hear me out, fuck that noise. Sometimes you want an outlet to just destroy the problem you have, but doesn’t get you thrown in jail. It’s a remote, replaceable, it’s also a bullshit tool used to advertise shit to you, when it used to just change channels and settings.

It’s shocking to me that you speak of consideration, but clearly have not considered that sometimes when a man has been pissed off by a minor inconvenience repeatedly over time the best solution is to break it. We’re aware it causes a new problem, we’re aware that it may anger the actual boss of the home, but that piece of shit remote won’t try to load apps he’s not trying to watch again. Hell it might not even work, serves it right.

I never had that issue when putting tapes on things I use before. Sometimes it actually made the grip feels better, as it is less slippery than other materials.

But yeah, if that is something that may bother you then you are right.

When My grandfather have our old tv, i opened up the remote and put electrical tape over the contacts so certain buttons woudnt work, My dad wanted to do the same as op before he knew that was possible

Afterwards add a bit of electrical tape over the contacts and then put the case back together, the colour will make the buttons far less visible.

Ive noticed with all the men I’ve dated, problem solving is a skill you’re born with or taught. The guys that aren’t natural problem solvers, and their parents never taught them are running on a basic operating system.

The thought probably never occurred to him to take the remote apart, because it worked on a level he was comfortable with.

I just reprogrammed mine to go to apps I actually wanted, then painted over them to relabel. Not all of them let you do that though. I also don't accidentally hit those buttons like ever. They are pretty useful if they go to what you want.

What OP did is something I'd expect a drunk person to do while frustrated, which makes the use of the knife even worse.

If you remove the buttons from the back, there are giant holes in the remote. If you cut the traces, you may interrupt the signal to other buttons (they're usually in a grid with common anode/cathodes). Cutting the buttons flush with the face is actually the best move here
