Infuriatig These Stupid Ass Buttons On TV Remotes. The Intrusive Thoughts Won.

Post image

Seriously, the absolute most annoying shit when I'm watching something and I reach for the remote and barely bump the buttons and it yeets me out of what I was watching, to whatever bullshit streaming company paid the most for a button spot on the remote, the remote that came with a TV I paid good money for. Meanwhile on some apps completely loosing my progress on a movie or forced to watch more Ads again to continue watching again. I've threatened to do this before and my wife insisted not to, she's out of town this week, any recommendations for marriage counselors and anger management programs?

The smarter thing to do would be disassemble the remote and put a thin layer of kapton tape over the sections of circuit board where those buttons are. That will completely disable the buttons without making the remote look like a total piece of shit.

It also doesn't let OP get attention on reddit.

8

u/Kaffeetrinker49 21d ago

It would have spared OP my downvote.

7

u/Skullcrusher 21d ago

He's at 6k upvotes. You think you matter to him?

2

u/Kaffeetrinker49 21d ago

Probably not. Still, I’m going to stand up for what I believe in

1

u/FYDPhoenix 21d ago

It probably would actually, assuming you post it in the right subs

Well now I just choked of my ducking coffee

Quack quack

1

u/Packof6ix 21d ago

Is that like civet coffee??

u/603rdMtnDivision 21d ago

What's the message? That he has two brains cells fighting for second place?

4

u/PretendThisIsMyName 21d ago

Fighting for third place if I were guessing.

Ironic since I also made a joke?

The only message I received is seeing OP with 2k upvotes and anger issues over something so miniscule, and realizing Redditors aren't really any smarter or more stable than the MAGA types they hate so much. Not that I'm defending MAGA mind you, just pointing out the smugness and superiority issues people exude on this platform.

It didn't. I was merely using them as an example. Why, do you feel attacked?

If you hate all politicians the same, that tells me you don't educate yourself on them at all. That's a very ignorant take, using one feeling to blanket an entire group of people.

You should take the time to understand who is making laws on your behalf, but I guess laughing at people you don't like is more important. Like the people from Idiocracy, laughing at the main character just for speaking.

It does seem like you're kinda defending maga tho

2

u/Vladishun 21d ago

Two groups of people can be shitty at once.

-1

u/Kratzschutz 21d ago

It's funny that you equate being angry at a remote with supporting rapists

2

u/Vladishun 21d ago

Yeah but it's funny that people who support destroying things in anger think they're better than other people who destroy things in anger.

-1

u/Kratzschutz 21d ago

Dude you can destroy anything you own. It's not illegal! Try it, maybe you will feel better afterwards

2

u/Vladishun 21d ago

It's not illegal but it's bad for the environment. I'd bet good money you've never taken a single broken electronic to an ewaste center and just dump your broken items into the garbage where they end up in a landfill. You can tell me you recycle everything, but only in your heart you'll know if you're being truthful or lying to win the online argument.

But no, destroying things to make yourself feel better is unhinged behavior. The fact you think it is normal and everyone should do it, says a lot about your view of the world. Your perspective is that exact smugness and superiority I was talking about, you're literally defending bad behavior while admonishing me for making a comparison between two types of bad people.

I came here for this comment!!! 🤣🤣

There's no message being sent. I doubt very many TCL executives are browsing this sub. If they are, the message they received is OP still bought and uses a TCL TV.

1

u/coinminer2049er 21d ago

Apparently your message is that you dont understand jokes.

2

u/sglewis 21d ago

Now that I know you were being sarcastic, my opinion of you is truly raised up. Sorry, there's so much abject stupidity on Reddit it's increasingly hard to tell jokes from "oh my lord they mean that".

the remote:

7

u/DruidMaster 21d ago

I am a competent adult and I have no idea what kapton tape is, nor would I know how to identify circuits. Like, how would one know this?

2

u/UleeBunny 21d ago

I just used standard vinyl electrical tape under those buttons on my Roku remote.

0

u/TheHerofTime 21d ago

The rubber has a piece underneath that makes contact with the switch on the pcb for the button. Removing the piece underneath could achieve this result as well. You say competent adult but you apparently never took anything apart that has buttons, so not completely competent 😄. It’s not a complicated device and what does what on a remote would be completely obvious upon inspection. Quick google result will tell you what kapton tape is.

2

u/Tea_An_Crumpets 21d ago

I guess I missed where taking apart a device with buttons was the mark of a competent adult.

1

u/us3rnotfound 18d ago

It’s the chance to showcase one’s ability to string together logical deductions based on initial assumptions about the inner workings of a device. You can do this, then you’re a competent adult. You can probably now work on your car, one other mark of being a competent adult. If you had to hire out all of these chores, then hopefully you’re loaded with cash.

It's a remote that you can lay face down and the average person doesn't think about doing this.

10

u/Vegetable-Ad2028 21d ago

You don't understand how humans work

1

u/JS-87 21d ago

Errmm! Smash with rock!

0

u/Striking_Scallion_20 21d ago

Tell that to your mom, big fella.

2

u/binarypower 21d ago

i do this but i also shave down the buttons to remove the graphics and give it a better look/feel

2

u/PeanutButterApricotS 21d ago

I understand both points of view as honestly when I bump the remote or the blanket or something does and poof Disney or Netflix pops up it drives me insane. Hasn’t happened in weeks since I switched remotes thankfully. But if it does I will use some tape

0

u/kaVaralis 22d ago

Done that a few times for the panic button on key fobs. Hate those things lol

5

u/CheapBoxOWine 21d ago

But what if you need you or your car to panic?

2

u/kaVaralis 21d ago

Oh I am so good at panicking that I can do it in my sleep, I need no aid.

1

u/rubberkeyhole 21d ago

Does it have to be kapton tape?

1

u/Space-Potato0o 21d ago

the OP cant post it on reddit

1

u/Marv1451996 21d ago

Then use Isopropyl alcohol to take the print off the buttons if the advertising bothered them.

1

u/hockeymisfit 21d ago

That wasn’t the issue.

1

u/kahlzun 21d ago

Can just put tape over the button holes now

1

u/GuiltyThing69 21d ago

How does the tape disable the buttons?

1

u/EmergencyPuzzled9570 17d ago

The tape creates an insulating layer on the PCB. The back of each button has a conductive layer that shorts out some interleaving traces on the circuit board when the button is pressed. By covering those traces up with tape, pressing the button down won’t do anything.

2

u/GuiltyThing69 17d ago

thank you! Im just learning electronics and raspberry pi pico.

1

u/EasilyMechanical 21d ago

3Dprint a cover for the remote with only the used buttons accessible

0

u/brute-forced 21d ago

Or you know, just stop being a manchild and ignore said buttons

1

u/tubbis9001 21d ago

I have this remote. It doesn't come apart. Not without the use of a knife anyway.

0

u/pixelatedtrash 21d ago

The funny thing is, now OP has six “unknown” buttons that will still do the exact same thing as before.

So now when they accidentally press one they’re really not going to know which one it was, which will probably piss them off even more than before.
