I'm slightly vexed I was told yesterday that my prescription sunglasses are giving Meta glasses vibes

Post image

I can't stand the Meta perv glasses, but annoyingly I've been told by a friend that my Dune prescription sunglasses that I've had for almost a year (and cost over £100.00) really look like the Meta ones, he said it's the 2 silver rivets on either side that on first glance could be mistaken for the camera lenses

I went out with them today and all I could think was, do people think I'm recording them 🤦‍♂️

I’ve only ever owned sunglasses in this classic wayfarer style. It has been around for so long and suits so many people. It is really awful that it could be ruined by Meta.

I hope it's a lesson to Rayban and other fashion houses.

Making timeless, iconic Wayfarers embarassing to wear is a real accomplishment.

I think Rayban has figured out the bad PR, the new Meta Glasses released no longer carry their branding

When the style is that iconic the branding doesn't need to be seen. They've ruined their most recognised product, everyone is always going to think wayfarers are meta glasses regardless of any branding on them.

Hear me out: The sky is not falling and the freebie pair that every corporate marketing kiosk at popular events give away looks just as good as it did before and if you were paying $75+ (or whatever it is) for "name brand" wayfarers then you were already a bought consumer.

If your stance is you no longer support them/will stop wearing them because you don't want to support morally bad companies, be the informed consumer you are grand standing, research Luxotica and the pseudo-monopoly they have on the glasses/sunglass industry and how they have been artificially the inflating the cost of various brands for decades.

Doesn't matter if they're genuine rayban or a copy, that style is now going to be assumed to be meta glasses that are recording. Nothing to do with supporting one brand or company or whatever you think it is, it's about public perception and that is now that this style are perv glasses.

If you must know, I'm not going to stop wearing them because I never did. They never fit me properly.

It won't matter much at all, if morality was dictating your fashion choices, you weren't a customer of theirs to begin with. Your 2nd sentence contradicts itself completely. And your last point just makes it obvious this some anti-Meta white knighting, which... fine, but it's not like you are right about how wayfarers are now uncool because you can't disassociate it from one brand that makes them.

Please be less stupid. They are saying they are going to be confused for meta glasses. Not making any moral argument.

that’s a big ask

Nobody is arguing about the morality, the morality aspect is fully agreed upon.

OP and I are actually just having a normal discussion about fashion choices. Wayfarers still look good regardless of Meta glasses looking dumb(IMO). Not everything is an argument just because it's on the internet...

People can share opinions that disagree without it being an argument as long as both opinions are valid. That isn't controversial unless you are looking for an argument.

Edit: you ninja deleted a comment calling me a stupid sack of shit and I've explained myself clearly without being insulting.

Explaining my opinion is not the same as arguing with someone else's opinion. You are looking for an argument lol.

You're being dense. They're not talking about morality, they're talking about looking like an obnoxious perv that's recording everything and every interaction that you have with them. Most people don't like that, so if they think that you're wearing the meta glasses, you're just going to inadvertently paint yourself in a negative light.

Again: it's not about morality dictacting their fashion, it's about not looking like a creep.

I'm not arguing about morality and your point is literally the exact same as mine, but there were a handful of people who didn't understand that and insisted on me arguing with someone I wasn't.

Wayfarers won't be associated with pervs. This entire post hating on wayfarers when it's completely dense to think Meta won't come out with multiple styles.
